Something you never heard of until you read the DIS

I learn something new pretty much every day on the Dis CB! :lmao:

But one thing I didn't realize before reading the Dis boards was how many people have kids with autism. I've only known personally one person with an autistic child, so I thought it was much more rare than it actually appears to be outside my little world.

I didn't know that some people's kids think that the characters at WDW are real. My parents always told us it was people dressed up like the cartoon characters. We still had fun getting our pictures taken with them - it didn't ruin the magic at all.

I didn't know that adults would think they were real!

I also had no idea that people would rather go into debt than miss their vacation.... Especially a vacation to Disney.

What? The hokey pokey and chicken dance..... at a wedding?

I have never heard of such a thing! Just seems so :scared1:

I live in Chicago area too and most weddings I have gone to have had both of these. They have kids too! Also open bars and lots of food.

I have never been/heard of a wedding that was at a church with just punch & cake.

I have also never heard of having a shower for more than your first child.

Many more things have made me shake my head in amazement, but these are a couple of the tops.

They're... what? :scared1:

I was amazed to learn that people actually unpack into the drawers in hotel rooms. I never realized anyone did that.

I never knew so many people vacationed at Disney repeatedly, year after year -- let alone multiple trips per year, year after year. :confused3

I never knew so many people, adults included, kept track of characters, seeking to get photos w/ all of them. Same thing with the autographs. I've never noticed that when we were actually in the parks, but I've seen it discussed on the boards many, many times. I totally get seeking out a special character for a photo, but the rest is just too much wasted time for us.

One of the most bizarre things I see here is the spouse/parent who is upset w/ their spouse/child(ren) because they want to go somewhere other than Disney. Glad everyone can't see me on webcam when I read further to find that they are convincing/bribing child(ren) to agree w/ their position to convince the other parent, or better yet, decide to compromise -- with a Disney cruise, of course w/ park days tacked on the beginning or end of the trip.

I didn't know anyone did that either...but then again I use the drawers in the hotel to store my dirty clothes so I sure don't put my clean ones in there!

Where to start?

1. Children and Weddings. I didn't know it was an issue. Where we live and for our people, the inner envelope listed the names of the people invited. If the kids' names are not on there, the parents get a sitter and a lovely day/evening out. Sometimes kids are invited, sometimes not. No feelings were ever hurt either way.

2. Diva Cup/Goatse/Family cloths:

3. Innoculations. We just get them to not get sick. There is no agenda.

4. Pumping gas. No idea about NJ or Oregon, and I thought it was the strangest thing when the NJ people were bragging that they couldn't know how to pump gas. How can you NOT know? But now, because of the Dis, they CAN'T so I learned something and became less judgemental.

5. That people didn't research WDW before they went. (I worked for DL in college and I am a know-it-all when it comes to DL. I would imagine WDW would ALWAYS do the same.)

6. This big bally-hoo with onsite vs. offsite at WDW. It isn't an issue at DL. But having done one offsite and the rest onsite at WDW, it IS a big issue. I don't care what side you are on, it is a big issue why people like both.

7. I agree with Robin about the housewives thing. The only housewife I knew was my boss who retired at 42 when she married a multi-millionaire. I've sense made a friend who IS a housewife, and trust me, she works her *** off.

8. That people don't send thank you notes.

9. The people really care about others having destination weddings and get all huffy becuase the bride wants to be married in Tahiti.

10. The credit cards were a sin.

Ew. I DO use them. Why wouldn't you? I want my clothes folded and aired. Not in a suitcase on the floor. :rotfl:

I unpack into hotel drawers, walk on the floor without shoes (or socks ifthe occasion arises) and *gasp* use the hotel-supplied linens on the bed.

I didn't know there were so many germaphobes who brought their own blankets on vacation and didn't walk on hotel room floors without shoes.

Wow, the very first thing I do when I get to my destination is to unpack everyones suitcases into the dressers. It signals the start of my vacation!!:yay:

I just would rather not live out of a suitcase, whether it is a weekend getaway or a weeklong vacation. :)

I've seen so many posts from germaphobes who seem to get sick so often. I think I'm on the fussy side, but I'm a soap and water girl all the way. Knock wood, we don't seem to have too many issues w/ traveling & sickness. (Ugh, did I just type that? Guess I better start dodging anvils now.)

I didn't know people would be afraid to use hotel drawers until this thread. How could your clothes get germier in the drawer than wearing them out and about, sitting in restaurants, riding a taxi, walking down the street?

Until yesterday, I never realized that there were people who were afraid of holes. After reading about this on the Dis, I spent the rest of the day noticing things that would surely freak out trypophobics. Word of warning if any of you are reading this: Never, ever play snood deluxe - or if you do, be darn sure you don't lose! :scared1:

:woohoo::thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I agree with you on everything except #7. I was a stay at home mom for 10 years (only work 15 hrs week now for fun) and most of the moms in my neighborhood still stay home. We ALL work our **ses off!!

I learned that my Puerto Rican Husband was white. :rotfl2: It was news to him too!

I didn't know so many people WASH their clothes before wearing them!!! That was a NEW one on me!!
