Something you always do on vacation

Wine or a cocktail on the plane, even if it’s 10am!

Eat breakfast; I don’t eat until at least lunchtime at home (not doing any sort of intermittent fasting; I just don’t eat breakfast). At the AI resort we go to in Mexico, breakfast is usually some salmon, a bit of salad, a mimosa maybe, fresh avocado with an egg sometimes, just lots of little tid bits from the breakfast buffet.

Read a novel; I find it hard to sit at home and read a book, but on vacation I’ll read every day by a pool or on the beach.

- Wear contact lenses every day.

- Drink soft drinks. I generally don't indulge in the fizzy stuff or even iced tea at home but will do so "on the road".

- Sleep 8 hours instead of 6.

Eat in restaurants. I don’t normally eat out, so it’s a treat on vacation.

A few things:
  1. At least one dinner at some highly-regarded locally-owned restaurant. Fine dining is great, but it doesn't have to be that level. Local quality and ambiance is what we're looking for. We've been known to do more than one, and we've also been known to try additional options if the recommended ones disappoint.
  2. In a natural setting, we like to do one special excursion -- hike, white-water rafting, visit something notable, etc.
  3. Teeshirts. Always teeshirts.

Definitely this. I have a closet full of tshirts from every place we‘ve traveled. I think my record is seven from our trip to Hawaii!!

I mostly take trips to WDW, and I agree about the breakfast. I don't eat anything as soon as I get up at home, I usually have coffee in the morning and eat something around noon. When I'm at WDW, I get up at some ungodly hour and get myself together and go right to the food court for a big breakfast.

Go swimming. I never do that outside of vacation, lol. And I bet I stop doing it once my grandkids are grown, lol. I'm not big on swimming, mainly because I can't do it very well. But the grandkids are all young and LOVE swimming. So when we go on vacation with them I always pack my suit and hop in the pool with them. Both to be on hand to help if one of them got in trouble and to play games in the water with them. As they get older I bet I move to the lounges with a good book.

And shower in the middle of the day. At home it's either in the morning or evening but rarely in the middle of the day. On vacation we do a lot of switching things up in the middle of the day.

We always try to go to Gyu Kaku, a Japanese BBQ restaurant. Every city we go to that has one gets a visit. Sometimes we end up with multiple Gyu Kaku visits on a trip, which is perfect to me!

Order dessert. Even eating out at home, we rarely order dessert. Dessert is usually for holidays, birthdays, etc. But on vacation, treats of some sort are pretty much an everyday thing. I don't drink soda and we never have it at home, but that's another thing family members do on vacations.

Watch TV!

That’s funny, because I’m the opposite! I almost never turn a tv on on a vacation. I loved that when we went to Peter Island (in the British Virgin Islands; it’s still closed and likely won’t ever reopen) there were no tv’s in the rooms. I do watch things on my iPad on the airplane though.
