Something that made you feel old

This is a funny one that just happened to me 2 days ago. I was talking with my son and his friend, both 17 year olds. My son spoke of a coworker he called "Mr. Ed" and I made a joke about the horse. Neither one of them had ANY idea what I was talking about and laughed at me. LOL. I felt pretty old in that moment.

The first time I really felt old, was when I was in my 40's and watching the Peter, Paul and Mary reunion on PBS. The camera paned to the audience and I made the comment "look at all those old people in the audience" to which my wife immediately replied "they're our age". Life just dropped a load right on top of me.

A few years later I attended an AARP convention and was one of the youngest there, still old enough to be a member. Thankfully they don't have them anymore because now I would be the one that the younger guy would be comparing himself too. I wouldn't come out a winner in that. Just this past weekend I went to a concert. The band was called Rain. They are one of the best Beatle cover bands in existence. They dress the parts from the different era's and sound and look like the Beatles right down to a left handed member that plays the part of Paul. All actual live music. Anyway I looked around and had no problem blending in.

The fact that the 70's when I went to High School might as well be the Dark Ages to most of my co-workers who weren't even born until the 90's or later.

The first time I felt old was when I went to a sports bar with younger co-workers to watch a NY Mets playoff game. i mentioned to them that I had been to Shea Stadium one time but that it was for a Jets game and not for the Mets. They all looked at me crazy and asked “the Jets used to play at Shea?”

It was my “Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings?“ moment.

I was at a Philadelphia Flyers game last night and mentioned something to DH about the Live Aid Concert in 1985. The youngster (20s) next to me asked where it took place in Philly.

Hello, you’re sitting in it!!! The Wells Fargo/Wachovia/First Union/Core States Center was built on the site of the former JFK Stadium in 1996.

Our DS turns 25 on Monday. I’m 55. Thinking back to when I was his age and how old I then considered people who were my current age to be. :crutches:

I’m 60 and remember my grandmother’s 60th birthday party in 1968. I thought she was ancient at the time.

We were looking at old photos not too long ago, and I came across one of me as a baby in my playpen in 1968. I was wearing a little shirt that read 'Sock it to Me.' My cousin (the same 21 year-old who can't read cursive writing) was so confused by that slogan it would have been funny if I hadn't felt the white hairs popping out of my follicles while trying to explain it. And if you know where the slogan comes from, congrats. You're ready for your senior discount.
