Something my mother said to me tonight really bothered me...

If you lose a few pounds, you might meet H's weight criteria to be in her wedding".

Okay. That would send me to Dunkin Donuts just to ensure that I didn't make the cut. That adds whole new dimensions to "shallow."

"What does your doctor say about all the fat around your middle?" Twice I have told her that my doctor isn't happy with it and I am working hard to get the weight under control.

Next time tell her it is against HIPPA to discuse what your Dr. says to you. ;)

that may become my next Facebook status of the day!

I thought the same thing but I have too many relatives who would get their feelings hurt! :sad2:

I am going to post it on the door of my office! :rotfl:

No matter how "well intended", it was a mean thing for your mom to say..:(

I'm sorry..

Are you Italian?!?:rotfl2:My dad used to say that to me!
!

I'm Italian and Greek. They seem to think chubby = healthy.

To starrzone: I read your first post too quickly and made the assumption that the bride had a weight requirement. My apologies to her.

Why do people think they can say things like that?? Sorry to put down your mom, but that's just an awful, completely unnacceptable thing to say!!

Something my late mother said to me not long before she died (4 years ago) has stuck with me. In 2001, I lost about 40 pounds. There are pictures from a Mother's Day trip in 2002 where I looked really good. I gained it back over the next 2 or 3 years and one day we were looking at an album and my mom said something like "it was really nice when you looked like that". I thought, it's not nice now? I don't think she intended to be rude but to be encouraging to lose it again. But it hurt and it stuck with me.

I don't know how tall you are, but I am 5'9" and when I weighed 140, my dad would take my arm and look at it. He'd tell me it was bony and I was "too thin". Now I weigh around 160 and he's stopped saying it!:rotfl2:

I'm 5'5 1/2 but I have a thin face and carry most of my weight below my waist. My cousins get similar comments.

People even those we love the most can be cruel. You have to know that self worth isn't measured by how much you weigh. Or all the skinny people in the world would be obnoxiously happy and believe me that just isn't the case. Someone is going to love you for you and not a number on the scale or a jean size.

:hugs: It sucks when people rag on you for things that you are trying to work on and is really none of their business. And if your cousin is judging who she wants in her wedding based on what someone weighs and not what they mean to her than who needs it.

I feel lucky to have a mother who does not comment on my weight but I have other family members that do. My younger cousin used to always make fun of me for being "pooh-sized" and I would always try to let it roll off my shoulders. Well about 3 years ago she gained a ton of weight (like 40 pounds) and has apoligized for being so mean.
