Something I just don't understand

The sad part is that my baskets are not the only ones that get misplace unfortunalty - it has been told to me that on one particular time a number of DCL baskets "disappeared" - it is the matter of intergity - I have no plans to flame or blame anyone for I still believe we do reap what we sow - my concern has and always will be is what children are subject to - I believe, especially in this day and time, already so challenged with so much in this society, they stop believing in people so much earlier - working with children all my life or just about, I do have their issues at heart and I feel this is just not showing them the right way of life - and they deserve so much -
All of the baskets, regardless of where ordered, DCL or myself, are marked very clearly and there are 4 manifest that are checked - so it is really noone's fault.
Anyhow thanks for the imput - I do appreciate all the pros and cons - I am always open to any type of suggestions regardless.
Much appreciation
Always
Shirley

Maybe the answer is as mcnuss suggested and deliver them after everyone is in their stateroom and the rooms numbers are checked. Maybe even have one or more of the characters deliver them to the room. I think the kids would love to open the door to that. Sorry you had a problem Shirley, our baskets were wonderful on our cruise in 2001 and it is evident you put alot of time and thought into them. It's a shame that a few people can ruin it for others.

Jason and Travis:

Second, I think this whole issue is one of ethics. As we have seen with many topics on the boards, people often decide for themselves what is right and wrong

As usual, well put.

Someone once said ethics is how you behave when no one is looking.

We were once delivered an amazing item to our hotel room in the Grand Floridian. I knew right away it was a mistake. No one touched it, we called the front desk. They said thanks for the call, but to go ahead and keep it. What's important is how good the candy tasted guilt free, and also the fact the the manager who tried to do a good deed for a client in another room could still do it and not wonder why Mr. Smith (or whoever) never showed any gratitude for the gift.

Who can forget the post on another board where the woman took home nearly the entire cabin.

Shirley, I can't explain it. What kind of kids are they going to be seeing the example they parents set for them.

I can only suggest something you probably already do:

Prominently attach a Label to the Effect:

"This was prepared especially for "MR & MRS Jones" if it was delivered to you in error, Mickey requests you kindly contact guest services right away"

I've always looked at these kind of things as - What's mine is mine. If it isn't mine - it's not mine. Period. There is no gray area. There isn't anything to think about. There is no issue.

I can proudly say my DD,9, has this concept down pat. She found about $10 in a gift store last summer and she immediately took it up to the clerks before I even new she found it. A mom and her daughter were distraught a few minutes earlier because they couldn't find the money. My daughter never thought for even a minute that she could keep it. Again - my daughter did the right thing so fast it took me a few minutes to figure out what was going on. I only found out about it - because the clerks were trying to offer my DD popcorn as a reward - and my daughter was politely trying to turn them down because of her braces. My daughter absolutely knows the value of her allowance - and how many weeks it would take her to save that much money as well as how disappointed she would be if she lost that much.

I get so PO'd at a coworker who was proud of herself for having her barely 3-yr old lie about his age so they could get him into Disney for free. Even when we mentioned that it was stealing...she just didn't get it. Oops - it sounds like I'm going to be on my soap box in a minute if I don't watch myself.

From what I understand Disney is not making any money off of these baskets. (Or is there a delivery fee that Disney charges for such deliveries?)

DCL does charge Shirley a hefty delivery fee (I believe it is $12 per basket?)

I agree that if this continues to be a problem, they could very well just discontinue the service, which would be very sad for everyone.

But as long as they are providing the service, a basket, clearly marked with the recipient's name and room number, that is delivered to the wrong room is just sloppy work on the CM's part. (The people who consume it, knowing full well that it doesn't belong to them, will pay someday, someway. Every dishonest act is etched on their souls.)

I realize the upgrade situation is different, though, and would recommend that anyone who has been upgraded do their own detective work if something is missing.

We were upgraded on our cruise in July. Although we did not have anything missing (and a basket from Shirley was waiting on our bed), we did have someone else's luggage show up an hour after our own luggage had arrived. The tags had our room number, so I'm guessing that they belonged to the people who originally had our room. They must not have corrected their tags when they were upgraded. We called Guest Services, and the bags were removed very quickly.

Sadly, there are a lot of lazy, irresponsible, dishonest people out there, and we all have to take precautions against them. Fortunately, as we have seen time and again on this board, there are also a lot of kind-hearted, generous people out there, too. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. ::yes::

I believe for most part that people are honest - I also believe temptations sometimes overcome what is right and after it is all over, guilt does set in - If I didn't believe as much as I do, I wouldn't be able to let my disappoint go - I do get fusterated, but that is all part of life - there are dishonest folks out there, but I sincerely believe that they are a small part of life - or just maybe I do live in a "let's pretend" life - I am coming up on 3 years on this board and I can sincerely say, that I have not run accross not one in all of those that I have had the pleasure to work with - I have also had to work with DCL and I to honestly say those I worked with, have tried very hard to help me solve the few problems there have been - including when the delivery charges were taken so high - they are the highest of all the cruise lines -
If these disappointments are all there were in life, I would say I have been blessed.
Anyhow Norm and I will be leaving for Key West tomorrow - we will be meeting up with some of our classmates and that is going to be so much fun - if you need anything checked out while I am down there, just give me a call on my cell at 321-508-2246 -
Everyone have a great weekend - looks like we are going to have a cool spell come through here soon
Hugssssssss to all

I just don't understand after all the excitement of the planning of the trip and actually getting on the boat (and I know EVERYONE is a bit excited) that you would intentionally ruin that feeling for someone else by keeping something that wasn't yours. You know I called Shirleys place of business the other day and spoke to such a nice, friendly, helpful lady on the phone. She told me about the basket I was interested in for my 8 year old DD. She let me know that there was much more than the picture showed on the website, and how much in advance I should order it. No high pressure, No "You better order now", just total helpfulness. When I asked her name, she said "Shirley", I said "THE Shirley?" and she laughed and said "yes". Listen this lady gets wonderful recommendations here for a reason. If you like the basket you see in your room so much, and you are saying to yourself "Gee, I should have got one of those!" CALL SHIRLEY WHILE YOUR ON THe BOAT AND ORDER ONE FOR YOUR NEXT TRIP!!!!!!!!!! Return whats not yours, cause if you get my DD's basket, and you don't return it, believe me, I have a big mouth, I'm gonna find what room your in, knock on the door, and you will embarrassed and ashamed for the rest of your trip, like you should be.

I guess my point with my post is that it has become common place for people to steal and not think anything of it. I have to wonder if people even think what they did by keeping someone else's basket was stealing. It's a hard call because you want the basket in your cabin upon arrival for your loved ones but maybe it would be better if the baskets were delivered and a signature was received! It would still be a surprise. A special note card could be left in the cabin before your arrival that you have a surprise coming and to please call when you would like your surprise delivered! I know my kids always loved getting any kind of mail when they were little so a special note or letter for whomever could be just as thrilling and then when the basket or gift is delivered it would just be another thrill for them!

I know I've read on the boards people wanting to order baskets for family/friends as a surprise. If they're not on the cruise, how would the recipients know they should be getting something? I would think it would be just as disappointing to the senders if the basket was never delivered. Can anything be done after the cruise is over?

Just a thought!

Well...hope it's not too cool Shirley ! We're in the lower 40's (and that's our HIGHS) here in PA for the next several days. Your "cool spells" would probably seem downright balmy to us northeasterns right now ! I may have to fly down there for a couple of days just to warm up ! LOL
Have a wonderful time with Norm in Key West ! Looking forward to a TR.

I am all in favor of this, but of course my last name is Jones ;)

YAHOOO can't wait to see all the baskets :bounce: ( I am kidding for anyone without a sense of humor)....

I am actually surprised it has only happened 3 times in 11 months....

Shirley,
We hope you and Norm have a fun and safe trip!

Ginny & Andy

(ps -- hope Norm is feeling better!!!)

Well my family,
bags are packed - you know the cuban style - put it all in a bag and when I get down there - buy new - just kidding but I have done that a few times :teeth:
Norm has to have a new water pump put on his truck tomorrow - dah - went out this afternoon, but I told him - better here than 50 miles from home - hey it's a blessing in disguise - anyhow will really miss you guys and gals - and as I said while I am down there if you think of anything you want me to check up on just call me on my cell at 321-508-2246 = people can not believe I give out my cell phone number but oh well you just never know when it can come in handy to have - its call safe zone away from home for any of you -
Norm went to the dr today and got a clean bill of health WHOOPPEEEEEEEE as for me - mine is still pending but nothing I can't deal with - I keep forgetting my age and sometime overdo it like still trying to climb trees and trimming them - BUT I DID IT.
Anyhow I just wanted to say adious, goodbye, so long until we "meet" again ---May all of God's blessings be with each of you and know I will think about you all - stay safe and stay warm = we are still up in the 80's but that is going to change real real soon.
HUGSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS from Norm and I until next Monday
Always
