A simple algebraic equation, that I am a little unsure how to set up:

My (natural) gas commmodity charge WAS 7.8. It is NOW 12.5. How can I figure out the percentage increase? Do I take the difference and divide it by the original number (4.7 divided by 7.8) and get 60.26 %?

If so, WOWEEE!!! I did not realize that our rates had gone up THAT much!!! :earseek:

The result you got looks right to me.

I divided 12.5 by 7.8 and got 1.6 so that would mean 12.5 is 160% of 7.8 so the increase is 60%.

Claire ;)

Thanks Claire! The way that you did it is interesting too. ::yes::

But the MOST interesting and DISTURBING things is the gas rate increase whose amount I was totally unaware of until now!!! ACK!!! That is a huge increase!!! I wish that DH's salary would increase by 60%

Well, I COULD, but I like a warm house! And it is how we cook our food and dry our clothes. ::yes:: Frontier living may be fun for a night or two, but not for the long term!!!
