Katie - too bad my DS13 isn't in your class. You would be done by now. His English teacher posted his grades - he got a NO CREDIT for his journal that was supposed to be turned in Friday. I asked him, "Why did you not turn it in?" The answer - the good old standby, "I forgot". I said did you see everyone else turn theirs in? He says "No, I had my head down writing.":confused3

You see why we go to Sylvan???? Tonight, was math homework - he is looking for a "special" calculator that will do fractions. WHAT????? My husband told him all calculators do fractions - just punch the numbers in. No evidently, our calculators could not do fractions the way they do them at school?????!!!!???

This was a lovely 30 minute argument.

As to AI - I liked about half the songs. Really liked David C. on "HELLO". Was expecting to hate it but WOW. I don't care for him, but this was a great performance.

:)
I think he wants a scientific calculator. I had one in HS. You can actually punch in the fractions as 3/4 (or whatever they may be) and it will do the math and give you the answer. Mine was a TI.

I really like Jason Castro. I'd like to see any of Danny, Luke or Michael Johns go this week.

I really didn't think it sucked at all.

i wasn't into the song selections most of them had tonight.

right now, i can't think of one song that stood out for me tonight.
that's why i said it was an off night.
when i can't remember of hum the fav song of the evening, i usually say it sucked.

Thanks! You know, I've never been able to diet and lose weight. I've never been a small person. . . I was one of those chubby kids. Here's the thing though. . .it never seemed to matter in my life. I've got a good sense of myself; I always had HOT boyfriends (and hubbies. . yeah, dh is my 2nd and my forever); I never "saw" myself as a fat person. I turned 40 in December and it honestly changed my life. I was feeling really down and upset for several months prior to the bday. . I even cancelled a big 40th bash because I just couldn't deal with it. Then, one day, I just decided that it was time to take control. I couldn't change the fact I was going to be 40, but I could, by the grace of God, see this as a POSITIVE turning point in my life. It's THE thing that works for me. I'm very committed the the changes I've made and I can honestly say that, as of right now, I've not made one single bad choice regarding my diet. But see, I'm not on a diet because that indicates a person will change their eating habits for a short period of time. I have no interest in that because it's never worked for me. I have changed my life and decided that I want to be healthy for however long I have on this earth. I've never before had willpower, per say, and I don't know what to call it now. . other than real da*n hard! Today, I made chocolate chip pancakes for my kids for supper, and I have pms, and I was hungry while cooking. . . I wanted to rip something to shreds, then something else, then smash something twice but I was by gosh NOT GOING TO EAT ONE OF THOSE PANCAKES!! Yyuuuummmmm. . . fried chocolate. . .it was really, really, really hard and I wanted it, but there was really never a moment when I truly considered even taking one single bite. Over the years I've seen so many stories about people who have lost a great amount of weight and I was so envious. They always talked about THE thing that motivated them and now, I truly understand. I never could find my thing that motivated me. I just went through this turning 40 thing for months and it was a process that evolved to where I'm at now. I can't really explain it very well, but I feel even more committed than I did 2 months ago. I've come this far. . .lost 21 pounds. . . miss my favorite foods every day. . but I still pack my yogurt and fruit every single day and I fight the addiction every single day.

So, wow, I just had some serious insight or something, but that was way too serious and I'm done with that now. . . I'll think of a funny and be back

That was a wonderful motivational story. Good luck! I know you'll do it.

I turn 40 in May, but it's not bothering me so far. Who knows how I'll feel, when May gets here though. ;)

Wendy - CONGRATS GIRL! You keep it up.

I have the best intentions but my willpower is the pits.

I don't know how you do it - if food is around - I will eat. The best thing for me is to get fruit and healthy snacks in the house (and lots of water), and lose the pop, cookies, and chips.

Hopefully, I can get to the store this weekend. Hubby always goes and I've just been grabbing whatever is handy.

:)

Makes sense. Most of the songs were songs I really liked back in the 80's, so I guess that is why I liked it.

I still have another day of Orientation before I actually start training at my work location.

I always thought new jobs were exciting and full of possibilities. . . . but then again that might have been some commercial trying to entice me into submitting my resume online. . . I really can't recall :confused3

Ok, seriously, I did new employee orientation for a few years at my agency and it was always kewl to meet and work with the new people. I enjoyed it and because of that, I think I made it alot easier on those coming into the agency, nervous, faced with all this paperwork and benefits decisions, and blah, blah, blah, and I was usually able to get a really good feel for the people I was working with. We just knew, after orientation, who was going to be a great employee.

I hope you are enjoying your orientation experience. I think it can set the tone for your time there. I, for one, can't wait for your stories to start (hint, hint, subtle hint). ;)

So, do you want a new dog to go with that new house? Cuz I've got one that if her papa doesn't come get her soon is going to get boxed up and shipped to you :rolleyes1

Oh that doggie is such a sweatheart!

DM - you may be right about the calculator. But we are talking about 7th grade math and his basic skills are not where they should be. So, he really needs to understand why and what he is doing.

I actually requested (and got) a Texas Instruments Scientific Calculator for Christmas when I was 16 (back in the 80s). If we would get DS a calculator for Christmas he would be the most disappointed kid.;)

Yes - I was a nerd - and wanted to go to school on Saturday. DS lives for snow days, and just told me this week that his favorite months of the year were June, July, and August because there's no school.:confused3

I am trying to look at the bright side and think of all the tuition money I will save at those Ivy League colleges.

:)

she loves her sleep - and would do real well working a midnight shift.....she's a flippin' night owl

DH & I are 'night owls' too....Ry is a morning person :confused3 I once saw a report or read that you are BORN either a morning person or night person...you can't change it. Maybe I'll send Bubba there and you sent Court here :scratchin He is actually 'pleasant' when he wakes up...no lie ;) I have never had a problem getting him up in the mornings..... (countin' my blessings while I can :rolleyes1 )

Our mornings are pretty crazy here - I get up around 5:30 and .....

5:30AM!? Are ya kiddin' me??? DH gets up that early & is out the door by 6am! ...and I, well, I sleep till about 7:15 :rolleyes1 Our routine is simple and quick in the mornings: (skool daze)- Up and downstairs by 7:30 to eat. While Bubba eats, I make his lunch and by 8am we are upstairs. Doing--brushing teeth, washing up, getting vitamins, getting dressed and combing hair. That all must be done in 25 minutes, as he leaves for the bus at 8:29am. I leave after he's gone to skool (depending what day it is and which job I'm going to depends on the time I leave ;) ) Exciting, huh? I just know you were dying to know all that :lmao:

Tracie...I believe you've done more by the time I get up than I do all day! :rotfl2:

A restrictor plate is a metal plate with holes that is mounted on the engine and limits the amount of air that can flow into the engine. It lowers the horsepower of the engine, thus reducing the speed the car can travel.

See...I would think the less airflow, the better the chance that engine will overheat :confused3 ....but then again, I'm still a ....

Very dangerous. Something has to be done before there is another tragedy because of their so called safer car.

Before I forget, yet AGAIN, would someone enlighten me as to what the 'car of tomorrow' is??? :confused3

The storms weren’t bad here at my house, just some lightning & hail. Actually more hail than I have seen before & lots of rain in a short period of time.

I'm glad you were all okay..... lightening & hail are nasty! You need to move.....you've been getting really scary/freaky weather for as long as I've known you..... granted, that's only about a year...but still...I think of Oklahoma, I think 'hot' :confused3

loribell said:
Yep, it takes some time to find the right temp on a water bed. Do you adjust it any depending on the time of year it is? I used to make mine cooler in the summer when I had one.

Well...I did.... My thermostat mounted on the bedframe was offwhite and I took a pencil and marked the degree for summer and winter.... well...the one summer I went to adjust it to the 'summer' temp and it was too cold. :confused3 So, i kept putting it back up, and before I knew it, it was at the winter setting! What I think has happened, is that sleeping in this warm bed, has thinned my blood (kinda like living in the south)... because I'm always cold (unless I'm in bed), and now I don't adjust the temperature and I'm comfy year round :goodvibes All I know for sure is that we love this bed.... :lovestruc

When Chris was a senior there was a group of kids drinking at one of his friends house with the parents there. The parents plan was that the kids would at least be safe drinking there. They took all of the kids keys and would not let anyone leave. The dad had gone to bed, mom had gone to take one of the boys home. Well one of the girls had a spare key with her. This girl & another one, along with 2 of her sons & 1 other boy left the house. The girl was driving 90 mph on a little country road, lost control of the car on a creek bridge, flipped the car and instantly killed all 3 boys. Both girls survived, the driver only had a broken leg and the other girl is fine now but it is amazing she survived.

That is an awful story! :sad2: Anything happen "legally" to anyone?? How old was this girl that she had 'sons'....or was that the hosts' sons? Yet another story of the 'guilty' party not being injured :sad2:

So does anyone want to move to Oklahoma? I will give you some incentive.

Uh...no....we're moving to Florida, remember?? :confused3

So I went to pick my old computer up at Best Buy Friday. They had to replace the hard drive & ac adapter again. They never called to tell me it was ready I had to call them. Before I went to geek squad I went back and acted like I was there looking to buy a computer and asked about their 3 year warranty and how it worked. The guy told me that if I brought in twice to get worked on then brought it in a third time they would replace it. I then went to geek squad and asked for my computer, told them it was the third time and it was supposed to be replaced. They said no it is the fourth time. I told them what I was told & I wanted a manager. The manager came, got the guy I talked to & still refused to give me a new computer.

 smart girl!!! Good thinkin' :thumbsup2 This 'warranty' should be written down somewhere in your paperwork....

Most scientific calculators have the fractions button now. It really speeds things up but I find that the kids (my son being one of them) totally forget how to do fractions once they use it too much. It also doesn't help them at all when they are doing rational expressions (that's fractions in algebra -- variables not numbers).

However, it is great for some kids who get really hung up on fractions and it impacts everything else.

As a math tutor, I see the good and bad parts of that button.

That was a wonderful motivational story. Good luck! I know you'll do it.

I turn 40 in May, but it's not bothering me so far. Who knows how I'll feel, when May gets here though. ;)

Thank you! Honestly, I really never expected for 40 to be any big deal. . it really snuck up on me. . .I'm not the type who stresses about age. . .it's just another number and I feel forever young (I have to. . since my maturity level is that of a 4th grader):rotfl:

We are spending a TON of money on healthy food. It's really, really expensive to eat this way. . .I never knew. Our grocery bill has doubled :scared1: I always thought junk food was expensive, but it's cheap compared to fresh and healthy food. Plus, we have to go to the store more often now. It is what it is. . . .

All our fleece is NASCAR. . . imagine that. . . oh, and one old Chicago Bulls blanket. . . but that's from when they were DA BULLS!!!:worship:

You're going to make me cry. I miss watching Michael Jordan play.

I still have another day of Orientation before I actually start training at my work location.

And where will that be? You can tell me, I won't tell. :ssst:

Makes sense. My DS has been using a SC, since middle school. That probably is what he needs.

Well peeps, my game is over & I'm off to bed. Just in case you were wondering, WE WON!!!

Go Tarheels!!!

I wouldn't recommend that you encourage a 7th grader to use the fractions button. Fractions are really important as they are the stepping stones to lots of algebraic skills. If he doesn't master them now, it will just make things harder for him later. I tutor so many kids who are really bad in fractions. It just takes lots and lots of practice. It will pay off a lot, later.

Yup. I am here untl next Friday. That's not this Friday but the NEXT FRIDAY!!! Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We bought area rugs today. How exciting is that?

i think that is very exciting. it is getting the new house ready for the new adventure you are about to take...

i noticed mo waffles gone. but you have another cutie up in its place....

I survived day 2. THOUSAND.

Good night folks...have a good night!

todd, sleep all you can now and rest up for october.
i don't expect you to cash it in at 10 on the nights we will be at HHN....

this is great.
you will achieve your goal.

so 40 hit you hard?

i thought that number was a piece of cake.
the one that bothered me the most was turning 20.
i love having bdays.
it means i am not dead.

I still have another day of Orientation before I actually start training at my work location.

i will figure it out where you work.
seagulls, jaws area.........hmm

That was a wonderful motivational story. Good luck! I know you'll do it.

I turn 40 in May, but it's not bothering me so far. Who knows how I'll feel, when May gets here though. ;)

don't worry, 40 will be fun for you.

40 is the new 25

hey brab..............how did you end up with a child that likes to get up early in the morning.....

Oh that doggie is such a sweatheart!

That sweetheart has chewed up two sets of shoelaces, 27 markers, 39 pencils, chewed on my couch, ate a rabbit turd and crapped on my floor!

You're going to make me cry. I miss watching Michael Jordan play.

Funny you should say that. . . no more than an hour ago dh and I were just talking about the very same thing. We watched a little bit of that movie where MJ played bb with the loony tunes characters. . I can't think of the name. At the end, there is a moment of MJ playing after his return and the movie ends with MJ, in the air, tongue hanging out and SLAMMING IT!

P.S. You know his son is currently playing college ball in Illinois. . . poor kid. . .

daylight savings time begins this weekend.

 :yay:  :yay:

I think I am talking to myself!

36_12_7.gif

That's okay....as long as you don't say "huh?" to yourself while you're talking..... :rolleyes1

YES DRILL SERGEANT

drillsergeant.gif

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: made me think of the line in Forrest Gump where the drill sergeant says to Gump: "Gump! What's your sole purpose in this army?"
Forrest Gump: "To do whatever you tell me, drill sergeant!" :lmao: :lmao:

I'm sorry, but I nearly fell off my chair.... :lmao:

Penny...congratulations, you've earned:

I love SC.

I love FL

i luv this box.............and everything in it.

ditto to all :goodvibes ...plus much, much more....

What is with the teeth and/or computer issues on this thread?

:confused3

My morning has been fun. (I'm borrowing Jodie's sarcasm)

Brad decided to give the boys Peeps for a snack last night (I guess he turned his dad brain off). Daniel managed to smash his one little Peep all over himself, his clothes, and the carpet.

This stuff won't come off. I mean, it is like glue. I scrubbed Daniel's pants and finally got them to this point:

PeepJeans.jpg

How to get 'Peeps out of a carpet' :scratchin ...is this a riddle like the 'chicken crossing the road'? :confused3

I only bring this up cuz I am curious how it all turned out..... popcorn::

And thank goodness for no Tag Fairy around here. Can you imagine the tags we'd have? Actually, I'd rather have a burnt peep goo tag than the one about the hair on my forehead.

Yeah...that TF misses out on a lot around here....guess that's what we get for bein' red-headed :confused3

thought you guys might find this interesting.

U.S. Government Concedes Vaccines Cause Autism

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the federal agency that oversees the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), recently conceded the first vaccine-autism case.

I did find that interesting...thanks for posting that. Makes ya wonder because 'all of a sudden' a LOT of kids are being diagnosed autistic....I don't remember ANY autistic kids when I was little? :confused3

My wife called and is all excited. NFL runningback Edgerin James is at the hospital visiting someone and my son, Bobby, got his picture taken with him.

That's kewl....where's the pic? Show!!! :yay: (btw, forgot to congratulate you on your loss :cheer2: )

IIRC I think it is linked to the MMR shot :confused3 didn't read the whole thing yet - but all I can say is ITS ABOUT TIME someone stepped up and took this seriously

Yep...linked to MMR shot....and I'm glad someone is finally admitting the link :sad2: About time...now they need to figure out why it's 'some' kids and not others?

Hi all-
Sorry I can't respond. Been busy.

I went to visit my dad today at the hospital.

Hey Rose....hope your Dad is on a better road today

my grandmother was an example of that ( my dads mom ) cause all of her kids would not even see her while she was dieing of cancer and kept telling her she was faking .... I was the only grandkid that would come to she her every weekend and I lived 80 miles away and her other grandkids live in the same town and some lived right around the corner and wouldn't even wave at her when she sat on her porch and if you ever met her you would swear she was an angel.
That's just awful....a horrible way to treat a 'person', let alone a close, elderly FAMILY member :sad2: Know in your heart you are a good person and did the right thing! :thumbsup2
