got this in my email this morning

Simpsons news

It is looking good! Even if I am in the minority and don't like the Simpsons.

PS - toss me the email link for the $70 aquatica/SW tix if it's still good for end of Oct please;) ; how cool does the water slides look thru dolphin area (thinking Atlantis/Nassua - which we haven't tried)

I forgot to respond to all of this earlier. My mind is not all here.

I think it looks really kewl. I can not wait to try it. Ally is an animal nut. She will love it! I don't think we will even go to BB this year and do a couple of days here instead.

I know my DS's would be mad at me but I agree with ya cause I don't really care for them:lmao: :lmao:

Our oldest DS always brings his friends over and they invite themselves to dinner wether we want the too or not:headache: but like you we don't mind but some of them are very rude but they usually not picky and will eat what ever we have and only in some very few times we would order pizza due to DS is very picky cause this is a kid that no matter where we go out to eat he only orders cheese burgers:lmao: :lmao:

Yeah, we resort to pizza a lot too. Too much! We feed them spaghetti sometimes. Other than that, we usually order from someplace that has a variety for them to choose from. I need to get my DH to fire up the grill more often.

since we were all teenagers, here is what i remember liking.

Unfortunately, I was a picky eaters. I ate what I wanted, when I wanted. Mostly, because my mom let me by with it. I love all kinds of food now.

my mother would get a big pack of pork chops or chx pieces, and shake and bake them.
heat a couple or 3 cans of corn or green beens
make a cake out of a mix or cupcakes and frost them.

old fashioned pot roast with veggies cooked in the pan.
make your own sundaes.

mac n cheese and hot dogs, with a pan of brownies.

they have those mexican dinners in a box like taco bell or old el paso at the grocery store, you only add ground beef and 1 or 2 other things. throw that together with s'mores for dessert.

or , try a big pot of spaghetti with meatballs on the side, and garlic bread.add cookies for dessert

Great ideas! I'll give them a try. Sounds like you're a dessert person, like me. Who cares about meat & veggies? Just give me dessert. :p

Penny wanted everyone to pick a driver at the beginning of the NASCAR season so she can tell us how we are all doing after each race. Damo picked Villenueve because he is Canadian... but he has just been replaced as primary driver. I was just suggesting that Penny substitute the other Canadian driver in NASCAR since Damo isn't around to make a new pick.

Ah, I see. :3dglasses My Nascar ignorance is showing. :o

Teen-friendly... hmmmm... well, my boys aren't anywhere close to that yet, but if memory serves...

Lucky you!!!

How about steak subs? Along the lines of a Philly Cheesesteak. You could cook thin strips of steak... onions and peppers... have cheese and condiments. Those that want it all could eat it and those that want boring could stick just meat and cheese on a roll.

I have Rachel Ray's book all about Kid Food, if you want some change it up type recipes.

What type of meat do you make steak subs out of? My DH & DS love them, but I've never made them at home. Well, I've made steak-ums, but that doesn't count. They'd love the real thing!

I'll take all the recipes I can get.

Just a little non US political news. yes, political.

Hopefully, and i say this with a great amount of courage, and hope , with the resignation of Fidel Castro in Cuba today, MAYBE, JUST MAYBE someday that place will be democratically run again.

Imagine in 20 years a vacation down there for Americans. :goodvibes

I'll see you there! :wave2: I'd love to go to Cuba.

Whew, I finally caught up for the day. I've given up on the idea of reading the whole thread, so you guys may need to fill me in on some things.

1st, what's this about a new home for Damo? Do tell! Lucky her! And Damo... if you haven't left yet, have fun & stay safe.

she and her husband bought a retirement home for themselves in south carolina.
she showed pics of the place and it is beautiful.

it even has an alligator in the back.......

so, if we party there take a flashlight with you if you go in the back yard to puke.

The older my DS gets, the more our house has a revolving door. I'm constantly feeding extra people. I don't mind that at all, but I don't know what to feed them. Our DS is an only child, who was raised primarily around adults in his younger years. He'll eat absolutely anything, which makes it harder to figure out what to feed most teens. Lately, we've been ordering out at least 5 nights a week, if not more. I'm really getting sick of it. I need some home cooked meals! What should I fix? Any suggestions for safe meals that any teen should like? Oh yeah, his girlfriend can't eat Mexican for some reason. :confused3 I think his friends would be okay with it though. TIA for saving us from so much take-out. :)

some things i have done.
bought about 2 Boboli circle breads.
put tomatoe paste/sauce with spices on top.
put on pepperoni slices, cheese and anything else you like and pop those babies in the oven for 12 minutes.

or get pizza crust dough and roll it out on a rectangular cookie sheet.
then do the sauce, and toppings on it.

when you use a cookie sheet, you can cut squares instead of slices.

make a pot of goulash. hamburger meat, paprika, elbow mac noodles and tomatoes.......feeds a tribe.

francheesies....cook hot dog with bacon wrapped around it.
split in the middle, put in cheese.
can do all of these things on a grill outside if not your oven or micro inside.

spaghetti and meat sauce
fry butterer bread in skillet. sprinkle with garlic powder prior.
flip, do both sides.

pancakes for all.

chicken salad, tuna salad, egg salad sandwiches with chips and dip.

#1 stuffed pork chops
applesauce, veggies
cook all in the microwave

#2 if pork left over, open face sandwiches with mashed potatoes.

i don't think that will happen if Raul continues in the post.
he has been in charge for months now and nothing has changed for the people. until they want democracy, it ain't gonna happen.

US passports do on allow travel to a few countries and cuba is one of them listed.

I sure wish I could find a crossing fingers smiley But I do have my fingers crossed for you.

if you like cornbread, you can make any dish, type of meat, in it.

i pour cornbread in the bottom of my glass rectangular pan.
i then put a layer of cooked meat.
top it with one more layer of cornbread.

cook in oven at 400 degrees for 15-18 minutes.

you can use spiced meat...ground beef w/tomatoe sauce and spices

or cooked chicken bbq.

any meat inside the cornbread is good

sometimes i mix corn in with my cornbread batter

with my left over corn and mashed potatoes, i make potatoe corn cakes.
fry them in pam. good to go

It all depends on how good you want the steak sub to come out. The best I have found to feed a crowd is to buy the big slab marked "London Broil". The cut of meat is actually flank steak, but almost everywhere they have started marking it London Broil. :confused3

Grill the meat for several minute on each side, depending on what you want it to look like on the inside. 4 to 5 mins per side = rare, 5 to 6 mins per side = medium, 6 to 7 mins per side = med well, 7 to 8 mins per side = well

The trick to making flank steak tender is really in 2 VERY important steps. Once the meat is done, let it sit for a few minutes before you cut it. That lets the juices that were heated and drawn to the outside re-distribute through the meat. Then, when you go to cut it, slice it thinly along a diagonal across the grains of the meat.

If you guys thought I could bore you with Nascar stuff, it ain't nothing compared to the cooking stuff I've got stored in my head. ;)

Damo bought a retirement home in South Carolina. She has pet gators in the pond/creek or whatever it is out back. It is a beautiful place. She posted pics of it a while back.

Thanks for filling me in. I'll go back & look for the pics.

Oh teenage boys will eat just about anything and lots of it! I used to do the feeding for oldest ds's football team on Thursdays. Booster Club paid for most of it, I either picked it up or cooked it at home and served it. We did pot roasts, steaks, lasagne, fettucini, hamburgers, sub sandwiches, bbq chicken, enchiladas, tacos, hot dogs, pizza, spaghetti, . Pretty much anything put in front of them they will eat!

Thanks for the suggestions.

Ah, gators ain't nothing to worry about. We have 'em in our neighborhood too. Snakes on the other hand.... :scared1:

More great suggestions! I fix goulash too. I don't know what I never thought to fix them that. DUH! My guys would love that fried bread too.

I love all these suggestions from everyone. I hate eating the same old thing all the time.

This sounds so good. Can you fix the London Broil in the oven or on the stove top? My DH does the grilling. Unfortunately, he also works very long hours. It would be great, if I could do this w/o him needing to grill the meat. If not, we'll have to try it on a day he's off. I love the fact that you use LB. I've been looking for a good recipe to use it in. It's cheap meat, but I could never get it tender enough to serve by itself. I finally gave up. Please, feel free to share your cooking knowledge. We're in a rut here & could use lots of new ideas.

alright, alright

all this talk about food is making me even MORE hungry than I was

Chicken Noodle Soup
Grilled Cheese and pepperoni
pizza bagels
Breakfast for dinner
grilled caesar chicken wraps & pasta salad

crud - that all sounds great.....i think we are having hamburger helper (cheeseburger macaroni)

some dinners i circulate for once a month.
very few for twice a month.

usually make enough so no leftovers except for the meat and potatoes.
i fix them differently the second day after of having it.

lasagne, i make it with sausage and ground beef.
freeze half of it in single squares for quick lunch or last minute dinner option.

pork roast w/gravy, pot, stuffing, applesauce.
use left over roast in slow cooker with bbq and honey.
grill buns on stove top in skillet.
make sandwiches with pork.

keep one section of pork for noodles.
shred up cooked pork and use ramen noodles or home made noodles and broth for casserole type dinner.

i always sear my meat in margarine and garlic to seal the juices in to keep it moist. then i cook it.

try cooking a beef roast in a cooking bag. add veggies to it and make a gravy with the broth.
you can have it as beef stew, or pot roast.

same when i do a beef roast.

i sometimes substitute ground turkey for hamburger or pork when i make casseroles or mexican food.

stuffed peppars with rice

beef stroganoff with left over beef roast.
only need egg noodles and sour cream basically with different spices.

i use a skirt steak to make sub steak sandwiches.
it is cut very thin and i saute the meat til the pink is out.

Only things DW will let me cook are the steaks and some deserts:lmao:

I have never found anything that can't be made inside. I have broiled flank steak (about 5 to 6 mins each side), then rest for a few minutes, then slice at a diagonal against the grain. I have never tried pan frying, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. I'd probably preheat the pan to a good medium high to high heat, drizzle a little oil and brown the meat for a couple of minutes on each side, then reduce the heat to medium or medium low and give it another 5 mins on each side. The reason for that is to "brown" the outside with the high temp, but "cook" the meat with the lower temp (if that makes sense).

Flank steak is great to marinade.

Here's a link that might help with the cutting thing:

Okay, guys. Brad has officially pissed me off.

He is lying on the couch with the light off.

When he feels tomorrow and the next day, like I do today, guess who WON'T be getting any TLC.

I probably won't be back on tonight because I'm about to go tell him to go to bed... since he isn't any help to me at all... and he clearly needs the rest more than I do...
