Oh, you are on alli? That's very interesting! I have never seen anyone who was on alli. How do you like it? Are the rumors about alli true? (that you lose control of bowels, and leak out)? I was really interested in alli until I heard that you always need to keep an extra set of clothes with you!!

Congrats on the 25 pounds! That is a wonderful accomplishment! :thumbsup2

With alli you MUST be 100% committed! You can not eat what you want or you will probably have the issues you speak of. I absolutely love the product. . . I have lost 11 pounds in 12 days. . . but I am very, very committed to changing my life. That's really what it's all about. Alli is not a "diet pill". It is a weight loss aid, but it is very restrictive regarding fat intake. You can only have 15 grams of fat per meal. . . when they say don't eat more than 15 grams of fat, you better not eat more than that. I have heard horror stories myself, but I researched the drug and felt it was a good fit. It is helping me do what I wanted to do, but my main objective was to change the way I eat . . . for myself as well as the way my family eats. So, alli is helping me lose the weight faster than I would without it. . . but I WOULD lose it anyway. Alli can help you for about 6 months, then it's really no longer effective. If you do not follow the guidelines, alli will still help you lose weight, but you will have horrific side effects. Personally, I would recommend alli. . .but I would also recommend doing your homework first. . . and make certain you are ready to make healthy changes. It can help, it does help, but you must be ready to be completely committed. I think there used to be a drug called Meridian on the market. . . I believe they are the same thing. Meridian was prescription only though, and I think perhaps it was stronger than alli. I do the work, alli assists me, keeps me "honest" if you will. I've made 100% good choices since I changed my life. . . reality is I probably would not have done so without the alli. That is the main benefit for me. Oh, here's one other thing I've heard. . . alli is not going to be really effective if you only have a few pounds to lose. . . you probably don't need it if you are only going to lose 20 pounds or so . . . but if you have a whole nother person to lose, alli might be a good choice.

Hope this has helped.

Thank you so much for the explanation! That makes a lot of sense. I'm so glad to hear that you only have side effects if you don't follow the plan correctly.

I may look into alli after I have finished with my Atkins. I planned all along to only do Atkins for a few weeks until I have broken my addictions to sugar and carbs. Then I'm switching over to something like Weight Watchers or something I can live with a little more easily.

And yes, I do have a lot to lose....about 85 more pounds. But I'm gonna keep plugging away, little by little!

We will have to all keep each other motivated!

I have at least that much to lose. . .but my personal opinion is that when you set a number, then you reach it, what then. I know, you maintain. For me, setting a number like that feels too much like a diet, which gives you permission to go back to old habits when you have reached your goal. I have made a lifestyle change which means that at whatever point my body decides it no longer needs to lose fat, that will be ok with me. I've been fat my whole life and I still have pretty good self esteem. If someone judges me because of my body size, that is their problem and not mine. I didn't always feel that way, but dh, who by the way is a hottie, very much lives his life that way. You either take him, or you don't. . . it doesn't matter to him. Those who "take him" find a wonderful person and someone who knows how to be a friend. That has rubbed off on me over the past almost 13 years. So body image is secondary for me. . . getting and staying healthy is my priority. I've got a lot of life to live (ok, ok, I did just turn 40 last month so I guess I'm kinda old) and I have young children. I don't want to miss a thing. . . hey, isn't that a country song.

Good luck with whatever you do. And everyone one around here is very supportive.

Oh, and by the way, I'm off the alli on vacations. I'm allowing myself to make bad food choices if I want to but must work off the calories and fat. I don't know how well my digestive system will tolerate, even without the alli, after months of not eating much fat. I think I will have to be very, very careful with what my indulgences. . . yikes. . . alli effects without the alli :scared1:

wendy - i mis-spoke; meridia isn't the same type of diet drug as alli; it is more of a mood elevator type

alli is xenical/orlistat type, in a lower dosage than Rx

evidently, u can have 30% of your meal in "fat" before the side effects kick in? saw it listed online for $79 for 84 120 mg pills; not sure if that is less expensive than the drug store variety:confused3 ; of course, u do need an Rx

keep us updated:banana: u must be so psyched!

I had a GREAT time snowtubing with the 20 somethings yesterday! :woohoo: But, boy oh boy, am I sore today. :rotfl2: I lost track of how many times we went down the mountain. Sometimes alone, sometimes in a group. We had dinner at the lodge and got home around 7:00 last night. By 7:25 I was outside soaking in the hot tub. Ohhhh, it felt so good on tired muscles.

I was hoping for a snow day from work today, but no such luck. I got to drive thru 10 inches of the fluffy stuff.
Penny - did you go to work?

that xenical is serious stuff. one of my sons took it and he did lose weight but he suffered doing so.
it was a prescription only when he took it.

i think whenever he had more than 5 g of fat, he had issues.

it sounds like the alli is better than the other stuff.
i'm rooting for you all the way.

I really thought Meridia was that weight loss drug that was so popular a while back too . . . would've sworn to it.

alli is Orlistate and only 60 mg per capsule. You can take up to 3 a day, with your meals, or take none if your meal has no fat. . . such as you only eat fruit for breakfast. I think the starter kit of alli was about $60 for 90 capsules. . basically a 30 day supply. I think the "refills" are a bit less, but I haven't gotten that far yet. I think getting it at Walmart, Sam's, Costco, etc. is the least expensive option, at least in my area it is. I know I have heard complaints that people can't find it, but it is readily available around here. I think you can buy it in larger amounts if you are not buying the starter kit since you aren't paying for the plan materials.

BTW, I'm not following the "plan" they give you. I mean I am following the instructions as in not eating more fat that I'm supposed to, but I'm not following their meal plan, etc. I read it all and used some of the ideas, but I need this to work for my life and their generic plan does not work for my family.

I'm really trying not to be so obnoxious about this. . . but someone asked me about it so I had to respond, right?!:confused3 It's hard right now, though, cuz I'm very selfishly focused on beating this addiction. . . sorry :flower3:

another TP virgin..........i need to start a class up on TP-ing 101

I've never been TP'ing either. Nor do I know anyone who has, and I've never seen a house that has been TP'ed. :confused3
Maybe it's not a northern thing?
Sounds like fun thou, sign me up for the class! :teacher:

Your not being obnoxious, we are all learning from you. :thumbsup2

I cannot go TPing with you though ... what if I decide to run for public office? Oh, yeah, that's right ... one need only read the DIS to find that I'm really no angel ... :rolleyes1

you need to get something on your record and TPing a house is better than being in jail......all i got was community service for it

come on, you know you want to.
vegas is calling.....
..

And, oh, yeah .... that would be the Angry Mike hours ... see, when Mike is on evenings, he gets up, drinks his soda, has 1 cigarette, does his "bathroom thing" (we actually call it "working on a crossword") TMI, I know, then works out, then drinks another soda, then showers, tries on 5 different outfits, looking at himself in the mirror each time and asking either himself or me if I'm around "Does this in ANY way make me look fat?", then leaves for work. If it's a crazy day, he might have to stop for gas, which does throw off his whole routine. So, asking Mike to take Savannah for her vet appt was asking ENTIRELY too much. One time I offered to stay late at work to cover for him while he took Savannah for a vet appt. OMG. You'd have thought I'd asked him to donate a kidney to a stranger. Instead, it took him all night to determine that he wouldn't work out the next day. He'd just shower and come into work early so I could take her to the vet. I swear.

and this is the man that i had to replace the prell for the wife????

Mike does not put on 5 different outfits and look at himself in the mirror!

Fletcher, you know better than that. Mike only does 4 changes a day while you come in 2nd with 3........

Oh, the ways in which he would kill me if he ever found out I revealed his deepest, darkest secret. He will admit to being "metro" though ... :rolleyes1

no sweat from us. heck, i have met Mike and he doesn't talk much at all.
he will never find out .............i even told him i liked his hair style and all he did was look at you then.

must have scared him........:rolleyes1

oldest DS had his supervisors job eliminated @ group home (his real job-the one w/insurance:eek: ); got a good serverance pkg and he still has his 2 other jobs & will qualify for unemployment...just hope DIL doesn't "decide" to get preggers now. Head supervisor got the can before Xmas, new owners bringing in their own mgmt - what can u do? least he's getting a good recommendation.

sorry to hear that janet. i know you must worry about it.
2 of my sons lost their jobs recently.
looks like they are not moving out soon. no money, no apartment.......

i thought sons wanted to move away and be on their own when they grew up.
i must have done something wrong as mine won't leave.

Afternoon, friends! :hippie:

Is anyone else dieting? If so, what kind of plan are you doing? Right now I am doing Atkins, but only for another 3 weeks, then I am adding a lot more fruits and veggies and a little bit of whole grains, and just trying to watch my calories. I have lost 9 pounds so far in the past 9 days! :cool1:

bonnie, congrats on the weight loss! that is terrific....!
i think all of us here are on a diet at sometime or another.
i count calories and do Curves 6 times a week.

story of my life. i lose weight, i gain weight.............lose, gain......now i'm losing again.

Toot (sorry, too lazy to go look up your real name)

We have some ladies and gents here that are dieting. Wendy is on the Alli diet, MFletch just started his today (not sure if he is on a program) , mac can lose weight at the drop of a hat, Barb (who does not need to diet) is not dieting "per se" but she and Jodie (who also does not need to diet) work out pretty regularly, Tricia got the "crap scared out of her 3 pound loss" over the weekend and I am currently doing a sugar free/modified Atkins/thyroid medication diet. So we are all here pushing each other along.....I personally refuse to weigh myself again until I go back to the doctor in February - I will have to let you all know then what the results are :thumbsup2

great cliff notes tracie!
jodie and i are the only ones that do the Curves though.
barb is the one that loses weight easily.

remember how she said her wedding dress of some years ago is too big for her now?

I started alli on 1/2 and have lost 11 pounds as of yesterday. I tried Atkins, but had trouble sticking with it and as soon as I didn't do it anymore, I gained back my lost weight. . . plus :scared1: Good luck with it though. I know of a few folks who have been successful long term with it.

BTW, I'm not dieting anymore. I had to make some very serious life changes because diet's don't work for me. I'm learning how to eat all over again, and managing to make good choices. . . one day at a time. . . . that's how I do it. Just like any other addiction, it's one day at a time.

I will stop using the alli as an aide in about 6 months, which is when it is probably no longer effective. I've added daily vitamins every evening and I'm adding a supplement to help my liver process all the fat going through there. After 25 pounds, I've got a workout routine to begin and I'm moving and walking much more than before.

Here's my tip for the day. . . fill your glass, cup, water bottle, whatever you use only 1/2 full. . . then you have to keep getting up to refill.

another super winning story from a homie.
congrats. you are doing fantastic!

my tip for dieting: i got this from Sparkpeople.com. check it out, it is free.
drink half your body weight in ounces per day in water.

if you are 200 lbs, then drink 100 ounces of water each day.

it is the one thing that has really helped me besides the exercises.

This one is for Jodie...

I went to the grocery store a few minutes ago. We were running low in Tyson's Veggie Tales chicken nuggets (a necessary staple with my boys) and we needed some toilet paper, fruit, that kind of stuff. The store was MOBBED and several shelves were empty. Ummm... WTH? It's Monday afternoon with no holiday on the immediate horizon. What's up?

I grab most of what I need, since they were out of a couple of my usual purchases and I wait in line at the checkout. I NEVER have to wait in line at my grocery store, but all the lines had 3 to 4 people in them. Again, WTH???

I asked the girl at checkout what on earth was going on. She said, "Didn't you hear? We might get some sleet and freezing rain Wednesday night."

 :headache:   :rotfl:

Oh, and Barb, you can tell your husband that everyone in our area wanted to make french toast. The missing items from my list? The kind of bread and milk we normally buy. :lmao:

hell, i buy chocolate when the shelves are low on stock at the store.
it makes me feel so much better.

tricia, let us know what the doc says when you get back home.

Thank you so much for the explanation! That makes a lot of sense. I'm so glad to hear that you only have side effects if you don't follow the plan correctly.

now is the time for penny and the soap box thing of the day. penny sometimes pops in and does the soap box thought for the day.
we just love it when she does that.
are you there penny?
which sports team is doomed, which will win?

wendy, when this thread was created, it was for everyone to stop by and chat, make a statement, ask a question, or just plain visit.
we have so many threads where you connect with others and when the thread dies, you lose contact.

i like having a chat thread over here. it is safe and everyone plays nice. some people post and return later, some post daily and some just read. it is great to get to know other disers.

miss jodie: how did the dentist visit go today?

and you still didn't show any pictures of the before pics.........

Hey everyone. I'm feeling better today. Loosing my voice of and on which I really don't have time to deal with. Need to be able to be on the phone and that is kinda hard when no ne can understand you. Of course the family also wants to call and ask all kinds of questions when I am like this. Sometimes I would like to just knock them upside their heads.

I went through the entire thread, pulled up everything I needed to respond to, did my responses & then the computer went wacko on me and I lost it all.:headache: Now I don't have time to go back and do it all over again.

So I will do what I can quickly while dinner is finishing cooking.

Tracy - Sorry Kbean is feeling bad. Mummy dust to her. Ally used to have a teddy bear hamster too. He was a sweetie but he kept getting out of his cage and finally just disappeared. Mummy dust to the new little one and family. Takes pics to share with us. Lots of mummy dust to your brother & sil with the invetro. Hope it takes this time.

Tricia - Anxious to hear how Joshua's appointment went. Yep, he is "our's". How does Brad feel about that? How is Carol doing? Are you ready for the weather you might get Wednesday?

Alison - Glad you got the router hooked up. Did the xbox live start working?

Janet - Soory about DS's job. Mummy dust to him in his search for a new one.

Katie - I can not imagine having to teach a room of kids sex education. What age group do you teach. Good luck on the house search.

MF, Tootsweet & Wendy - Good luck with the weight loss. You can do it!

Sharon - Glad you had a great time. Sorry you're sore though.

Jodie - I can not believe he asks you if it makes him look fat. He is too funny.

Marcie - Thanks for the well wishes. I am feeling better today. Just wish I could get my voice back.

Barb - Soccer tonight?

Mac - My ds moved out, actually I kicked him out, but now he is back. It has been just a little over a month and it fells like a year already. Good luck to your ds's in their job search. Mummy dust to them & you.

Rose - Hope all is well in your part of the world.

Hi to everyone else. Hope I didn't leave anyone out.

mac - i just noticed, u turned blue;) ; i think i'll morph into my fav. color - black:rotfl: is lime green spoken for...? i digress...i think ur boys just luvs u so; they want to stay home:thumbsup2 and the food is probably great too:goodvibes

sharon - sounds like so much fun...the hot tub:rotfl: ; haven't been sledding for a few years since neck issues; miss it; especially the hot cocoa.

for a snack today, couldn't decide between the remainder of fancy dancy chocolate chunk popcorn (just a cup or so, can't have that many calories-not listed on the bag lol) I got for Xmas or instant hot chocolate...popcorn won:rolleyes1 . However, was surprised that the hot chocolate didn't have more calories than it did.

old skool diet question re Slim Fast. They used to make it in powder form in canisters; cannot find it anyway in my area - just cans (way too expensive). went to their website & they keep refering to something called optima? the "old" powder stuff, mixed with some ice cubes made a satisfying shake.:confused3

I think Penny lost the war with the snowblower. :rotfl2:
We might need to go and rescue her.
Looks like we will end up with about a foot of new snow. At least it's the light, fluffy kind. Another storm coming in on Friday, but that one looks like a sleet and snow mix. :headache:

i think big brother is listening...

ever notice the banner for diet products before:rotfl:

i bet penny's making igloos and snow angels

lori - it's tuff to wade thru the thread and comment to all, u do a great job:thumbsup2 i gave up:surfweb: do read, don't always retain;)

If I make the regular size, I eat the whole damn thing. :rolleyes1

Yum, chocolate popcorn!

You know until you mentioned it I even thought about the powder stuff being missing, now I guess I haven't seen it around for a long time.

I think it is probably the google search engine spiders reading what we post and then putting up ad words that match something. The site makes money when we click on one of those ads, not much but it does make something (at least that's what I ave been told by other web administrators).

I try. Don't want to hurt any feelings.
