It has been a very windy day here.

Our neighbors across the street have a large (and tacky) display of Christmas stuff. Inflatables, lighted stuff, strings of flashing, blinking, running lights. Not organized or pretty, 'cause I think lots of stuff can look good. It's just scattered all over their lawn in a big mess. It looks like the after Christmas sale at K-Mart.

Anyway, it has been a very windy day here today. They have a giant inflatable bear holding a candy cane next to a smaller inflatable penguin in a santa hat. The wind has tipped the bear over slightly and he is now beating the heck out of the little penguin with each fresh gust. They also have an inflatable santa and a snowman. The wind has knocked the snowman over completely and tipped santa toward the snowman so that it looks he is... ummmm... having his way with the snowman with each gust of wind.

Okay guys - I tried for a good half hour to post last night and was never successful. So here's last night's post:

Ok, I'm just getting too old for this! Skiing was surprisingly uncrowded and really good conditions. However, DS and GF wanted a pic of them at the very top of the mountain so I went up with them once. Then followed them to a double diamond which they insisted was easy. There was no easy way to walk back to another slope at this point (although in retrospect that would have been a good idea!) so I tried it. And ended up tumbling down about half of it before stopping myself. And sat there a long time before getting enough motivation to get the rest of the way down. Fortunately no major damage, although my neck and back are already sore and I can guarantee will be worse tomorrow! Not listening to them anymore! :rotfl:

Driving home didn't help any. I hate, hate, HATE driving in the dark. And this is a hard stretch because there's nothing. 90 miles of nothing. Two lanes in each direction, but I timed it and we were 35 minutes once without seeing another car going in our direction (and because it's a split highway, you don't see the other direction all the time).

It also doesn't help when your 14 year old suddenly decides he HAS to go to the bathroom immediately. I'm focusing on driving, explaining there's nowhere to stop and refusing to pull over on the shoulder which is covered in snow and I can't see well enough in the dark to tell if there's a dropoff on the side or not. Meanwhile he's like "Just roll down the window and I'll just go!" (while we're driving 65 mph!) Needless to say I vetoed that one. Would have just handed him a bottle (we've had one in the car for 15 years for this reason!), but GF was in the car! Luckily we found a gas station about the time he was about to die. Next time I bet he'll listen to me when I tell him to go before we leave!

Meanwhile, DH has been driving home for the past 10 hours from St. Louis (it took them just over 7 hours to get there). They've been driving through some really bad weather apparently. To pass time, they've been counting the number of cars spun off the road. Last check was up to 21! :scared1: They're back in Wisconsin now at least, but still a ways out.

Well, I'm going to bed to rest my neck and back! Talk to you all tomorrow!

Wow - it posted! Amazing! Not sure what was going on last night, especially since I could see other people were posting, but my little circle would just go around and around and never post! :confused3

So...today's update. Back is sore, but the rest of me is okay, which is good! Been wrapping presents and shopping (despite saying that we're done with that) all day! DH and I snuck out and went out for Japanese food for dinner (shhh - don't tell the kids!). We also stopped at Dunhams and bought the kids a big ticket item for the basement - a combination pool and ping pong table (again - double shh!).

DH obviously made it home - around midnight last night. 11 hours to do a 7 hour drive. But he's here and in one piece. About 5 other people he knows from work who were traveling over the weekend didn't make it home due to cancelled flights so at least he's here. So he can fly to Dayton again (or attempt it!) tomorrow! How bad is it down there? Maybe he won't be able to make it a second time - especially since he's scheduled to go through Detroit!

Folks - I have been reading everything - promise!

Tricia - I like your Santa/Snowman story. I saw a similar inflatable the other day that I pointed out to my kids. Only in this one, the snowman's head was completely deflated and hanging to one side and Santa had his hand up against the snowman's neck - looked like he just karate chopped his head off!

How's everyone doing in the storms? Anyone getting a snow day tomorrow? (Since we didn't get snow, I'm going to guess we won't!). Oh, and....

STILL NO ORNAMENT!

Thank you for the cheese straws recipe. we have gone from 9 degrees to 11 to 17 to 27. it is now ice.good freakin' grief, it is most positively cabin fever. if i was not so ugly, i would run naked down interstate 95 all the way to Orlando. and i dont run. and i am ugly naked. nakedly ugly. just plain ole ugly.

and you did startle me once during hhn......

marcia, good to hear royce made it home.
did he come up on 55 from st louis?

i take 55 to get there and might have to make that trip this week.
i know the roads are bad and have been watching the weather.

put bandades on your ouchies.

that has to hurt..........did anyone get pictures of you tumbling down the hill?

hope the soreness goes away soon .....i'm glad you didn't break anything with that fall.
that would be one big bummer to break a bone.

hi to all the other homies........

off work tomorrow and have 2 appointments to take care of.
i'm sure that will shoot my day.......

I hope you have a fun, safe time at all your PARTIES.... what bothers me, is that none of them are referred to as "Christmas" parties :confused3 ....kinda like not calling it "Christmas" break in skools, but "Winter" holiday....and it's not "Easter" break either...it's "Spring" break..... wth? :headache:
The party and the luncheon were/are considered Christmas parties.
*I* chose not to call them as such. :darth:

As for the schools, maybe it's more PC to call the breaks Winter/Spring? :confused3 Both holidays have Pagan origins anyway...

On an unrelated note, where can I get some good mead?

Hey everyone. Just wanted to check in real quick. I have read all pages that I missed but just don't have time to respond to everyone.

Tricia - I hope your tumy is feeling better. Glad you were able to help Carol out with the cheese straws.

Janet & Jodie - Welcome back! We missed your. Would love to hear all about your trippies!!!!!

Janet - Sorry about all the bug bites. How is the bad one doing now?

Jodie - You & Mike take it easy out there breaking up that ice. That was a bit long to be out in the weather. Be careful.

Katie - Way to go against the Sis. Congrats on finishing the semester. Loved the trippie to NY. Wish I could make it up there some day. Would love to spend an entire week watching Broadway plays. Oh, and where is that halloween pic you promised us.

Rose - I hope all is going well for your family. Your dad is in my thoughts & prayers.

Todd - Sounds a bit excessive to fix the brakes on your car. DH does our himself, takes them to a shop around here to have the roters turned. Don't think we have ever paid even $100 total to the brakes on any of our cars.

Alison - Glad dh was okay after the run in with the deer. That was a lot of damage.

Barb - I hate that they call things winter parties or breaks, or winter solistice. I can't even do x for Christmas. Guess I ought to start calling Christopher xtopehr???? I just don't get it. But or Spring Break is actually a Spring Break, it has never been at the same time as Easter so that has never even crossed my mind. We also have a fall break in October every year so maybe that is why?

Anyway, I still have not bought a single present, not for Christmas or for Ally's birthday which is one week from today!!!!!!!!!!!!! DH's mother hasn't done her shopping either. She can't get out in the bad weather so I may even end up doing hers. Somebody help me!!!!!!!!!!!!

WDWFreak200 - Welcome to our home. Hope you stick around and visit with us.

DM - Sounds like a very busy week ahead for you. Have fun.

Marcie - I hope you are feeling okay after the big fall. I have never been skiing and at this point think I am probably to old to try to learn. Mikey would to do it sometime though. Maybe we can do that for spring break.

Hang in there, you will get your ornament.

Penny - I never did understand why anyone thought Eli was worth anything. He sure isn't his brother. He actually was up against the kid from here in Tuttle for the Heisman and lost to him as he should have. Having watched Jason play football in HS and then for OU I knew what he had but no one even wanted to give him a chance. Of course his injuries probably had a lot to do with that. My point though is there was so much hype about Manning at the time Jason won, like he was the better QB and I can tell you for sure he wasn't even close.

Sharon - Sorry to hear about the MIL. Mine can be a reall PITA too but I think it is because she just feels bad and it affects everything she does. She can also be really nice too. Hope things go well through the holidays. I would hate to loose a loved one at this time of the year.

Tracy - I still can't believe your anniversary get away without the kids to Orlando turned in to a weekend away with the kids. How did that happen? Sorry about your brother and sil. I hope they don't give up. My cousin was never supposed to be able to have kids at all, she started having majior problems when she hit puberty. Well, Adrieana is now a very spoiled 4 year old as she should be. Also have a football coach here that went through 4 different fertility treatments, were tyring one last time and they now have an adorable 3 or 4 year old little boy & a beautiful 2 year old little girl. Just tell them to have faith.

Mac - Sounds like the party was a good time. I hope all is well with the boys. Have you done any shopping yet??? Or how bout that tree?

Melissa - Good to see you stoppng by. Come back more often.

ky07 - Hope you are feeling all better now.

Thanks again to everyone for the well wishes during the storm. I submitted those icicle pics to one of the news stations the other night when I posted them here. My great-uncle called my dad last night and said he saw Ally on TV. She's a star now!!!

I am really worried about Gemma. I sure wish there was some way to contact her. Gemma please come home.

Sorry to all you guys getting the crappy weather now. Stay safe!

Our 4 - 6 inches of snow turned in to a dusting and we had a high of 40something today! Guess God loves to show those weathermen just who is in charge.

Oh and I am so glad I was not here for the political dscussion!:headache:

To everyone else - HI!!!!!! Didn't mean to leave anyone out but I am beat.

Love you all! :cloud9:

lori, you have done more about christmas preparations than i have.
you are concerned on being behind your schedule.

i'm not at that point yet.
still no tree and nothing bought yet.

the dis is so slow for me tonight.
i'll try to stay on it until it shuts down.

like it is taking me close to 4 minutes to pull up a quote and post.....

I think he came up 55 for quite a while. I know they managed to avoid Chicago and stayed west, and I know they ignored the mapquest directions and also managed to get around (instead of through) Madison, but not sure of all the details.

No, no one took pics of me. No one even waited for me. No one even noticed I tumbled down the hill! :headache: Actually, I saw some people at the very bottom standing and waiting and watching me (I'm assuming to make sure I was okay) - I finally got up and waved to them and they left. I actually thought it was my kids waiting for me, not random strangers who were actually a bit concerned! Wishful thinking?! :confused3

We did get some cute pics of DS and GF though at the top of the mountain with her camera so if she ever emails them to him I'll post them. Although he probably won't give them to me now since he's in his room pouting since I took his phone away for using language I didn't like. Oh well!!

Hi to everyone else - I hate not having time to talk to everyone! It's almost the holidays though and then things should die down!

How about those Packers?

But you see, I sill have an 8 year old at home. Things will not be pretty if I can't find her presents. :scared1: :headache: I took her by Toys R Us this afternoon so she could show me what she wants. They are already out of so much. :sad2: I'm sure we will still be able to find her plenty. Heck, I bought Christmas presents on the 23rd last year in Orlando. Guess I will be finished sooner this year after all.

Dis is very slow for me tonight too.

Lori and Mac: I certainly feel some of your pain, although I have got most of the presents bought (the kids have been taken care of),I still don't have a tree up.....I've got to get to my MIL's house and help her with their tree before I can even think about putting up my own. DH and I went shopping today and were hoping to get in early enough to help her tonight, but no such luck. DH starts night shift again tomorrow night, so if MIL's tree is going up before Sunday, I have to go over without him. I'm going to see my 92 year old grandmother in Louisiana on next Saturday....busy, busy, busy!!! Lori, what does Ally want that the stores are out of? I know they are out of lots of things around here, like Guitar Hero III and things like that...I don't much look at little girl stuff, so I don't know the hot stuff for little girls this season.

Well TRU was out of just about every video game console there is. She is specifically wanting a DS, coral pink. I think we will probably be able to find one at Wal-Mart though. Mikey would love to have a WII but don't think we will be finding one of those anywhere.

I'm really not to worried about it though, they will get plenty. Ally if she had to have a color other than coral pink she would take it!

Other wise she wants anything Hannah Montana & High School Musical. She also loves Littlest Pet Shop and anything that has to do with animals. I think she is going to be a vet when she grows up. Every game she said she wanted for the DS had to do with taking care of animals. Oh she also wants dinosaurs and dragons. She wants to be a paleontologist too. Her favorite movies are the Jurasic Park trilogy, has been her favorite since she was 5!:scared1: And mom took her to see Santa today to get her pic taken, she told him she wanted a, get this, .........

book.:santa:
