Update on the no school thing. Turns out it was a senior prank. Someone (or ones) plowed snow up to all the doors of the highschool. And what do you think all that snow up against the doors did?
It froze the locks! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Hey everyone!

Sorry I've been MIA for ages now...been insanely busy!

Chris is now safe in Florida, been there for a week tomorrow. And he doesn't even appreciate it!!! He hates Disney so has been texting saying 'I'm in Magic Kingdom...its ****' and my parents just laugh and thinks it's funny...they're the ones paynig for it!!

On to better news...March 11th this year and I'm off to Disneyland Paris!! Ok, not as good as Florida but I'm so excited! I'm off with a few girls from uni and can't wait! We're spending 3 nights and 4 days there as a special treat to ourselves.

How is everyone?

I can't be bothered (actually, have no time as I have to pack) to read through what I missed so any really interesting post that I should know about?

PS I go back to Liverpool tomorrow morning. xxx

And I was just asking about you again...good thing you checked in before you went back to uni. Please do check in with us from the library, I say once a week will keep us sane. Don't make us come oer there and hunt you down!

Can't believe your brother is tormenting you like that. He has a lot of nerve.

Glad you are going to be able to get away for a few days to DLP. It will be especially nice to go with uni buddies. Not as nice as going with us buddies in a bax, but still nice.:rotfl:

LOL Mac!

I'm not sure when I will be back...I will try my best! I will be at the library a lot more this semester so I'll go on from there from time to time and let you know I am ok!

PS. Lori bugged me....how do I put it on my sig?

Open the pm I sent you, right click on the area the little bug is in and go to properties. Copy the address, it will be the one with the http in it. Then you need to go to user cp to update your signature - like you did when you put in the note to the tag fairy - click on the little box that looks like it has mountains in it and paste that address in it. That should do it for you.

Gemma, not to really do the mothering bit here, but maybe could you possibly like once a week for 5 minutes send us a post and let us know you are alive?????????????

THREADERS- I HAVE A CURRENT PASSPORT. I VOLUNTEER FOR GO CHECK ON GEMMA DUTY.

Gemma, what is the name of the school again??????????

monkish penny here

the bugs freaked me out...thought they were on the screen. I am ready to go buy a new one.......:scared:

It was on the news tonight about Sharons son's high school.
there are 20 entrances to the school. each had 4-5 feet of snow up to the doors and all the locks were frozen solid. so, no school. the principal is hoping the "rumor" mll will generate the names of the pranksters.

guess those pranksters wanna go until July to school.:rolleyes1

Again, that is just too funny. Must not be much security around there cause that had to take a while to do!

Okay, I'm gone a day and I'm 7 pages behind! I'll see if I can catch up with you all here quickly!

I totally agree....want Bubba to remember visiting Florida every summer and the beach every summer....."family fun" times (He's been flyin to FL since he was 1.5 yrs. I think he would actually think it was weird if he didn't fly one year? )

That's what we're trying to do with our kids. Had other family members (who shall remain nameless!) criticize us because "they live in this dinky little house (in our old house) but still have enough money to take the kids on a cruise and to Disney". Well, did you ever consider that's WHY we have the money to take the kids to Disney? :confused3

oh lawrence, i'm so sorry this has happened in your family.
you and your fam are in my prayers.
people inside this "box" are here for you lawrence.
homie, if you need anything, come get us and let us know.

i know it is not easy to give up a loved one.

Lawrence - I'm so sorry to hear this too. I know it has to be hard on you not only because of the loss, but dealing with the people (wife/kids) dealing with the loss. Basically, I just wanted to say exactly what Mac said above so I quoted her. When is the funeral? Wishing the best to help you through this tough time!

Feeling great

I slept a solid 7 hours last night!!!

A little pain today in the gum, probably from the needles....but let me tell you, I woke up with the biggest smile on my face :goodvibes

Thanks for your concern!

Glad to hear you're doing better! Katie - just wondering, where in NY are you? Approx? City area, or somewhere upstate?

:p

If housing wasn't so flipping expensive, I'd head towards Huntington Beach, CA in a heartbeat!

Did I mention a page or two ago how much we wanted to move to CA? DH grew up there and went to Huntington Beach a lot. Here are some pics from there on our 2003 trip. Yes, you wouldn't catch my boys dead in speedo's nowadays (or any bathing suit that wasn't at least 3 inches below their knees!)! We were driving somewhere else, drove near the beach and decided to stop. All I had with me were their little speedos tucked in my park bag so they threw them on. Lucky we did because the temp dropped about 20 degrees the next day and stayed cold and rainy for much of the trip:

Here's an example of the beautiful weather the next day at Legoland:

Okay, no more pics - I promise!

#3 son came home after basketball practice, very talkative over dinner table...as to how their class got to disect owls today:scared: ; he got an A+ since he "dug deep" and found a shrew in it's gullet:eek: ...dear old dad kept encouraging him to share. I'm still feeling green; whatever happened to frogs? Afraid to think what they'll be doing in 10th grade. This from the kid who oh-so-very-much hated his CSI class that cost me dearly @ Penn State a few summers ago

We went through this with youngest son. When he was in 2nd grade, in a gifted program, he got to dissect cow's eyeballs. Well, he thought this was the greatest thing in the world. So we signed him up for dissection camp that summer (yes, there was such a thing! :rotfl: ). He got to dissect cows' and sheep's hearts, brains, and eyeballs, along with frogs and human kidneys! (Insert nauseous smiley here that I don't feel like taking the time to search for!)

Last day they made up some kind of formula to cover themselves so they looked like they had cuts/gashes, blood all over them (think horror movies) and went up and grossed out the Lego camp that had been dropping legos on them all week! DS was all excited after that because he was going to med school because someone told him "that you got to dissect a WHOLE PERSON there!" Woo hoo - just what I always wanted to do!

Trying to post pic.

DONKEY.jpg

Woo Hoo!!! It worked. Thank you Barb.

This is a pic of son and me on our only trip to Universal in June 2006. Gotta love Donkey.

Jennifer - hope this doesn't offend you but you don't look anything like I was picturing you! I was thinking of someone looking much taller, with long dark hair, and younger (yeah, I know, you have a 12 year old son, but for some reason I pictured you as like 25 or so!). It's funny what an image I have of everyone in the thread, and even when I've met them (like Mac), it still doesn't override my image! So all of you are young and beautiful!

Barb - Are you kidding me woman??? A christmas counter???? You are starting the year on the naughty list for even bringing that up LOLOLOLOLOL

Yeah, when we were skiing last weekend, at one of the lifts, the lift operator had written on the big sign (that they use for messages/emergencies, etc.) "Only 360 shopping days until Christmas!" Um, yeah, better rush out now!

oh...and regarding politics....you just have to vote for the 'lesser of 2 evils'

That's about my summary of politics. As far as politics on the thread - I don't have a problem with it but I definitely don't think we should attack one another. "I'm voting for blank because of blank" is fine and may help me think some, but "You're an idiot to vote for blank" isn't. Either way, feel free to post updates on results at least for those of us who aren't news up to date. If I don't read it on the DIS, I don't read it! :rotfl:

PM me your email address and I will send you the list. :thumbsup2

Sharon - if you don't mind, I'll PM you mine (although I think you have it since you sent me a card! Thanks!) if you'd be willing to forward them to me! First on my agenda when I get off this reply!

DS dragged himself out of bed this morning, scraped the ice off his car and left for school. :thumbsup2 10 minutes later he was home again :confused3 ....no heat at the high school!
Boy was he ugly. Not cause there was no school, but because he got up for nothing. He could easily sleep to noon if I let him! :upsidedow

Yeah, but you wouldn't know any way unless you have like email notifications like some places do (we did in Detroit, not here). Even then, you probably wouldn't check until too late. I did this once - on Saturday night we got a foot of snow. Well, it never occurred to me that they might cancel school (Detroit area still) by Monday - they had a whole day to clear it. Got two young kids up (1st and 2nd grade at the time), ready, and drove them to a dark empty school. Uh, oh! They were equally thrilled!

Gotta take Madie home in a bit. See you all later.

Lori - is Madie your granddaughter? Is it pronounced Maddie? Just curious because Stephen's best friend's sister (who is in Eric's grade) also spells it Madie, but pronounces it Maddie and I wrote it that way on everything for a long time. We were at the band concert before Christmas and I saw it as Madie on the program and asked her mom if it was correct. Then I felt stupid I'd always had it wrong - never seen it spelled that way before!

On to better news...March 11th this year and I'm off to Disneyland Paris!! Ok, not as good as Florida but I'm so excited! I'm off with a few girls from uni and can't wait! We're spending 3 nights and 4 days there as a special treat to ourselves.

That sounds so exotic to me! I'd love to go to DL Paris! Have fun for all of us!

PS. Lori bugged me....how do I put it on my sig?

Thanks for bugging me too Barb, but as I've mentioned, I have NO room in my siggie and can't even attempt to mess with it again! But I appreciate the bugging!

Wow - that's the first time I ever got an error message for having too many smley's and IMG thingies (images) in my thread! I had 32 with only an allowed 25! Some of you that I quoted had too many in there that I had to go in and erase to post the message. Tsk tsk!

Okay, on a different topic (I didn't want to lose all my multiquotes!). We're now considering going out to Vermont skiing over the Easter break. Yes, that's much iffier than going out west weather wise, but also much cheaper! DH's folks gave us a good-sized Christmas check, so we were considering using it to fly us out there to visit them sometime over the summer. They're both in their 80's, and although they made one visit out here to visit us, I'm not sure how many more times they'll be able to do that (although they're in MUCH better health than my parents, who are over a decade younger!). Plus, who knows how much longer we'd be able to drag DS15 along with us, between classes, girlfriend, jobs, etc.

When I checked earlier possibly going Easter week instead, the air was like $600 pp, which obviously made us rule that out entirely! But now, I'm finding it somewhere between about $240 and $270, depending on where we flew out of. Green Bay is pretty much out. Although, I'm waiting for Midwest's sale which starts on Sunday, so we'll see then. But for now the options seem to be either Chicago to Albany - Albany would be a much nice small airport to fly into, but obviously Chicago would suck, not to mention it's a 4 hour drive from here. Or, Milwaukee to Boston. Same thing, but on different ends. Boston would be a hassle, plus the only cheap flights out I'm finding are at 6am! Anyways, the goal would be to visit his folks and also see my brother and his family in Boston, so really either airport on that end would work, but Albany would be nicer.

We'd spend 3 days at Killington. We were looking at 2, since we're pretty sure we wouldn't bring skis, etc., since unlike Denver, getting ski racks out there would be more challenging, plus we'd pay a fortune for a minivan. So 2 days of rentals seemed to make more sense. But, in pricing out packages, many of your lodging places (condo types) don't rent for less than 3 nights, plus they have a midweek special where you buy 2 nights and get one free for lift tickets. Bottom line, even with the rentals, skiing and staying 3 nights is cheaper than 2. Don't ask me! Actually 5 nights midweek, isn't even that much more, especially since kids ski free then, but this wouldn't work well with trying to fit in all the visits!

Anyways - I'm still pricing, thinking, etc. it all out right now. Hoping to hear back from my brother (in Boston) and see if those weekends work for them, and then ask DH's folks and sister and see if they do for them before making any plans.

Any suggestions from those of you in that part of the world? We've skied at Killington twice before, but both times in February. Don't know how much there'd be in late March. Guess no one does right now! Advice on airports? I really don't want to make connections, and either that or just location in general ruled out a lot of airlines like Jet Blue or Air Tran. Southwest is coming up as more expensive, and I'd rather not deal with that anyways and don't know how to do Dings! Any help?!

Good evening all. Glad to be home after a long day at work.

Thanks to everyone for all the kind comments about the pictures.

I was thinking of someone looking much taller, with long dark hair, and younger
:rotfl2: Marci - this just cracks me up. I was always the shortest one in school, and I have had short hair since I was 8yrs old. Also, I always joke that DH and I were born at 35 as we are "old fogies".

Politics - I'll go along with the majority and keep quiet. Don't want to offend someone unintentionally. Our primary isn't until May, so I dont' really pay much attention to the national races until April.

Catch you all later.
-Jennifer

i'll be good:rolleyes1 if not slap me down & send me to the corner, i'm a leo...we canna help ourselves;) Believe I've already managed to offend via an innocent football trash talk:flower3: I shall try to tread lightly to protect any thin-skinners.:thumbsup2

skipped DSs BB game, he didn't get in the last several (punishment for going on vacation?); it was away @ school my oldest coaches football. A good 3 hrs RT; and i wasn't up to facing parents who wanted "to chat/lobby for their kids". Of course, he played & scored; no other parents went...DS thinks it's funny.

hi-ya Gemma, study hard...then have tons of fun:banana:

marci - before the new server, thought we were limited to 6 smiles:confused3 . Luv the CSI story, the pics are a hoot. My kids quit the swim team @ the YMCA (our school district is too cheap to have a pool lol) when they became "of age" and decided it wasn't worth it.:rotfl: How cool the ski trip would be gave that up as a bad cause 20 years ago; southwest will have new schedule up & running 1/9 am (if they are in your market, the other fares seems to adjust to whatever rate they offer...although, imo - they've been starting out high & dropping a bit within a week or so):wizard:

fyi, when you think of me...subtract 50 pounds & add 5 inches to my height:cloud9:; could you subtract 20 years off my age too?

Sharon - if you don't mind, I'll PM you mine (although I think you have it since you sent me a card! Thanks!) if you'd be willing to forward them to me! First on my agenda when I get off this reply!

I have your snail mail not your email. So PM me your email address and I'll get it to you.

marcie - A few quick thoughts:

Albany airport sux in the winter. They cancel alot of flights.
Even in March. Than you still have a 2.5 hour drive from Albany to Boston.
Have you considered Manchester airport in NH? It's about an hour closer to Vermont than Boston. Not sure where in Boston your family is.

As to snow in Killington in March, you should be all set. They are usually open until May or June depending on how cold it stays.

I think Penny's DH does some skiing. Maybe she can offer some suggestions too.

Sharon - DH's sister actually lives in Albany, and his folks are in Oneonta (about an hour west). Either airport is about 2-3 hours from one another and from Killington, so it really doesn't matter. Ideal would be to fly into one and out of the other, but since that wouldn't work from this end (or even be practical on the same airlines), and would undoubtedly be much more expensive, we're resigned to driving on one end or the other!

Family in Boston's a bit NW of the city. I didn't find any flights into Manchester on any of the airlines I was looking on, although I did look. I know my mom flew into there from Detroit when visiting, but I'm not driving to Detroit! ;)

Janet - we're all 25, young, thin and energetic (like Katie really is!)!! My kids all did the swim team thing too until they'd whined enough about how much they hated it and weren't doing any more. Also skiing and swimming seasons didn't mix well!

Sharon - thanks for the list!

Marcie - you could do southwest from chicago to Manchester and than Albany to Chicago for the trip home.

Or, you could fly into Portland and visit me! Forget about the relatives! Boston is less than two hours and Killington about 3 1/2.

So, I'm Confused.

Should I continue to work for my company, but see about transfering to their other office (it'll be a longer drive) or find a new one after I move? My Requirements for a New Job wouldn't be much.

I'd Require a specific Time Frame off, plus a Raise (Gas coverage) to stay/transfer.

:confused3

LOL Mac!

I'm not sure when I will be back...I will try my best! I will be at the library a lot more this semester so I'll go on from there from time to time and let you know I am ok!

PS. Lori bugged me....how do I put it on my sig?

i got bugged also but thought it looked more like crabs so i took a pass......
