Ohh really? I think I will definately stay onsite next visit. Everytime we were walking from the car park I was pointing out RPR and HRH (couldn't see Portofino) to my dad. I was contantly drilling his brain with info about the hotels. lol. Think we will stay there next year!

i don't think you were born during that time..........

must have been your parent's influence liking the rock of the 60's.

such a change of music after the beatles hit the airwaves.
Oh I wasn't born until 1966 but the rock station back home played a lot of the older music and that's what I got used to. Movies like Forrest Gump that have awesome soundtracks just make me think back. :hippie:

I'm a 1966 baby too. I'm afraid that my children are being left behind their peers as far as music goes. I rocked both babies to sleep singing Beatles tunes (Yesterday is a great song for a lullaby... you can just loop it around over and over until the baby nods off). Joshua still asks for Yellow Submarine sometimes. I'm still convinced that Rubber Soul is one of the best albums, ever.

Of course, then you get the disco influence of my kid-in-the-seventies years... not to mention my older sisters love of Aeorsmith, the Eagles, Led Zepplin, Boston, etc... which was passed on to me since we shared a bedroom. Add my brothers love of beach music and rockabilly... and my oldest sisters love of the soft stuff (Bread, the Carpenters, etc.). Move on to my high school years which added a love of bands like Rush, Journey, Bon Jovi (one of the few hair bands that I embraced)... it all went to form quite an eclectic music taste for myself.

I'm afraid when my boys start playing their own music, I'm going to be lost. :rolleyes:

Oh yeah..it always happens..we get older and out of touch with the music around us. :rotfl:

Since we're talking about music...my favorites are: Fleetwood Mac, Journey, The Cars, Eagles, Pat Benatar, Heart and Van Halen (w/DLR).

Okay, now I've got Ric Ocasek singing "I don't mind you coming here and wasting all my time..." in my head. :lmao:

I saw Pat Benatar and Styx in concert a few years ago (before Dennis DeYoung left/got the boot). I went with a friend I've had since high school, so it was a real trip down memory lane. Pat can still belt 'em out.

Heart and Fleetwood Mac are among those older-sister-influence bands. She played the crap out of those albums. I think I could recite Rumours word for word from start to finish. And I was young enough to ask my sister about those things dangling from Mick Fleetwoods crotch on the album cover... :rolleyes1

Van Halen is one of those cruising bands. I'd play the tape (remember tapes?) in my car with the t-tops out. I was just SO cool. :rolleyes:

You guys, get out!!
I'm a 1966 baby too!! Really!!

My parents played a little Sinatra, Robert Goulet, Andy Williams, Tony Orlando and Dawn, early Cher. I grew up with that music.

My parents were not Beatles fans at all, but I am!!
I got into the Beatles right after John died in 1980. I really like Paul McCartney solo and Paul McCartney with Wings.

Dennis DeYoung(from Styx) toured here at a local festival by me last September. DH and I went. It was a really good concert!:thumbsup2

At our Labor Day weekend fest this yr, Pat Benatar will be performing, no kidding! I don't think I'll be going to that concert, as I'm not a huge Pat Benatar fan.

Wild!!

My parents were a little older by the time I came along. Mom liked Sinatra, Tom Jones, Frankie Lane... but Dad was strictly instrumental bands like Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Herb Alpert...

I watched the variety show that Tony Orlando & Dawn did on tv. Sonny & Cher too.

Okay, now I'm feeling old. :sad2:

Forgot to mention, DH used to be a huge Rolling Stones fan. He went to a few Stones concerts with a couple of friends back in the late 1970's and in the 1980's. He's only a somewhat fan of them now.

My hubby was/is a Stones fan too. We went to see them at Turner Field (Atlanta) in... ummm... 2002 I think. No Doubt (Gwen Stefani) was the opening band. I'm not a huge Stones fan, but I must say that it was a heckuva good show. :thumbsup2

Yeah, I remember who Herb Alpert is too, he played trumpet or trombone, can't remember which one. My mom had a couple of his albums too.

I remember watching Tony Orlando and Dawn variety shows and Sonny and Cher's too! :thumbsup2
Ok, I did have a crush on Tony Orlando when his variety show was on tv, maybe when I was 7 or 8? It must have been his big brown hair and mustache :love:
Thelma Hopkins was one of the Dawns. Can't remember the other Dawn's name.

gimmie shelter...before I fade away:banana: ring tone on cell is sympathy for the devil:rotfl:

penny - don't worry about the WC, DS had to use one for lingering feilberg's disease after broken growth plate in foot; cast was removed later than initially projected. He was 12 and I thought he would die of embarrassment. Even had to haul it on cruiseship. While he was told he could walk 1/4 mile a day or so; he was thrilled to have his transport chair once his foot swelled up & started throbbing.

yes, there were lots of buttheads, consider the source...even had snide remarks from other people in WC as to "is he really in need of the chair?":confused3 ...you'd think they of all people wouldn't be clueless?

glad to hear i'm not old enough to be most of your parents;)

jodie - very weird story, i'd fuss a bunch too. I don't have great luck with search function, even using the DL gold setting? Although you'd think they could scroll back a few pages at least.

Thelma Hopkins was one of the Dawns. Can't remember the other Dawn's name.

Herb Alpert was a trumpet player. Very steamy, sexy stuff for the time. ;)

Let's see, I want to say the other Dawn was Joyce somebody? I have a vivid picture in my head of the Dawns making Tony take off his platform shoes on one of the episodes and he did it (and, of course, the Dawns were taller than he was)... then he looked back at them and said, "Okay now, Thelma, Joyce, it's your turn to come out of those high heels..."

Why that stuck out of all the episodes I watched, I have no idea. :confused3

I had a crush on Shields (as in, Shields & Yarnell) for a little while. How embarrassing is that? I had a crush on a mime. :eek:

Then I moved on to Shaun Cassidy and Parker Stevenson. Ah, yes... the Hardy Boys... what hair... what eyes... what rear ends in tight pants... :lmao:

Wish I can chat more, but I gotta get going :guilty:

Alexandnessa- sorry to hear about your door :sad2:
Hope it gets fixed soon :wizard:

Yankeepenny- I didn't read any of the thread you mentioned. Some people are just jerks :mad: :headache:
I have ran across a couple of other Disers on a board I used to frequent alot, that I only post once in awhile on that board now, as I know one of the Disers gets very angry easily. Some of these peeps on hte boards in general have violatile personalities unfortunately :sad2:
:hug: to you.

marciemi- enjoyed your TRs :thumbsup2 Can't wait for pics!

Gemma- glad you had a great time on your trip! :thumbsup2
Now how come you had to go home earlier from your trip than the rest of your family :confused:

Keishashadow- you and Mac are Stones groupies :scared1: :rotfl:

RVgal- it was fun chatting about old songs, old times :chat:

Well I didn't have less time in Florida than most of the people. Don't ask me why we did it this way but we did.

Me, mum, dad, reuben, oliver and their parents went on the first week
A week later, my 2 brothers, my cousin, a friend and godparents arrived
Another week later, me, reuben and his parents went home
and next week my mum, dad, brothers, cousin, friend, oliver and godparents come home.

They say the weathers really hot over there at the moment. I thought 3 weeks would be too long- I was wrong, wish I had done 3!

Yeah, I remember who Herb Alpert is too, he played trumpet or trombone, can't remember which one. My mom had a couple of his albums too.
Herb Alpert is one half of A & M Records along with Jerry Moss.
I remember watching Tony Orlando and Dawn variety shows and Sonny and Cher's too! :thumbsup2 Ok, I did have a crush on Tony Orlando when his variety show was on tv, maybe when I was 7 or 8? It must have been his big brown hair and mustache :love:
I remember the variety shows too. Sonny/Cher, Donny/Marie, Flip Wilson, Carol Burnett...they certainly don't have those type of shows anymore.
Thelma Hopkins was one of the Dawns. Can't remember the other Dawn's name.
The other member of Dawn was Joyce Vincent Wilson.

Okay, now I've got Ric Ocasek singing "I don't mind you coming here and wasting all my time..." in my head. :lmao:

I saw Pat on the "Get Nervous" tour in 1981 and she was ROCKING! Steve Nicks is one of the greatest female songwriters in history and I saw Heart @ Universal last year during Mardi Gras and Ann can still belt it out!

According to DH Stevie Nicks was considered very hot...in the day. Check out The Highwayman on Belladona -

Alas, he was the highwayman;
the one who comes and goes;
and only the highwaywoman
keeps up with the likes of those;
and she in all her magic;
with hands as quick as light;
took him to be a challenge;
and went into the night:thumbsup2 luv that phrase

and

Belinda Carlile of the GoGos too...always get a laff with the vacation song & the waterski-ing pyramid:)

Wow - I'm yet ANOTHER 1966 baby! Sounds like this thread is the place for us young 40-somethings! (Sorry Gemma!) Yep, we're back, DS15 is off with his girlfriend and all is right with the world. The pics are still downloading on to this computer, but sometime soon - I promise! DS12 finished book 4 of Harry Potter on the drive home from the airport. Now when he gets his 7 teeth pulled on Tuesday, he can have books 5-7 to read, and wants to rent movies 1-4! Sounds good!

Oh, and we opened the mail and he got his whole packet of music stuff for the honors band he's in to start practicing for their state assembly in October. Yeah, I'm sure getting those 7 teeth pulled will be great for playing the tuba, don't you think?

Off to start unpacking - at least there's no laundry to deal with!

Welcome back Marci!

DF went to the Disneyland Marketplace, and I have to say, he was disappointed... He said it just didn't seem to have the magic that Orlando does. Then he went to the beach...which he said was not as good as the Long Beach in NY....I think he is just missing me...:goodvibes

Got my boating license today! Now I will be able to drive the jetski, er, PWC (Personal Watercraft), as per proper definition. Maybe I'll actually be able to drive it by Labor Day weekend!

Hey, anyone know about the Vistana and the wireless internet (meaning, does it exist)?

Welcome home Marcie!

How strange that several of us that found our way to this thread are born the same year. :scratchin

I'm listening to the sounds of the weedeater. Hubby was up and out on the tractor mowing by 6 am, now he's doing the finish stuff. The grass was starting to look scruffy, for lack of a better word. It wasn't really growing because we haven't had enough rain, but we were getting those straight shoots of grass with seed pods on top.

We'll be off to church soon and then MILs birthday dinner is later today so I probably won't be around much. Everyone have a good one!
