Something About Nothing............ #14

Happy Saturday. I am having a good lazy weekend so far. I had to pick up some things at Walmart yesterday. It was crazy busy for a Friday afternoon. I have no plans at all for today.
At some point between today and next Sunday I need to buy something I haven’t purchased in ages - diapers and baby wipes. A young couple at my church had a baby yesterday. They don’t need much since this is their second child, so we are having a diaper and wipes shower for them.

It looks like it will be a nice warm day - cooling off a little bit today so it will be more tolerable for those who don't like the heat. I LOVE the heat - always have. I love to feel the warm heat that soaks into your bones.
Just curious, do you get the intense humidity that we get in the south? I think I could tolerate heat better if there wasn’t so much humidity.

Charade everyone reads mockingbird here in public school. Was shocked GD read it in advanced ELA 7th grade. Usually not introduced until later. good lessons there though many don't hear at home. Sadly, it does now appears on some banned lists in school???
7th grade does seem a little early even for an advanced class. B read it sometime in high school. I’m still surprised that I was never assigned to read it.

Honestly, please send some of that heat to us!!! Glad you can enjoy it though.
I sure wish I could send some of ours. Here is our forecast for the next several days.

Going to watch baseball on tv.
Can never get tired of this game.

It never matters to me which teams are playing, just love the sport.
I miss the days when the Braves were on TV almost every night.

The eldest turned 44 yesterday
Happy belated birthday to him.

Ooh I forgot. On way back home waiting for luggage at PIT, met a 'celebrity' with the younger set
I must be getting old. I thought she was another kid. Nice that she took time with your GD.

I would have been kicked out of the South if I didn't like iced tea, or catfish or cornbread
Confession time - I was raised in the south but don’t like catfish or cornbread. I also don’t care for peaches or banana pudding. I probably need to surrender my southern card now.

I tried tiramasu (sp?) for the first time, and I Am in Love. It is now my favorite dessert.
My favorite local Italian restaurant has the best tiramisu. I bought a frozen variety at Kroger once. Yuck! It ended up in the garbage.

We area going to be celebrating granddaughter M’s birthday tomorrow along with my sister K’s grandsons birthday out at the nice place where she and her hubby have their travel trailer. It is so pretty there. We are having a cookout and I’am going to try a couple of new salad recipes to bring.
Happy birthday to them.

Halloween decorations are amping up in the stores. My favorite time of year.
Dh was eyeing the Halloween decorations at Cracker Barrel yesterday. He’s never actually decorated for Halloween though.

Time for lunch and then to figure out what to do for the rest of the day.

Well, call me bad Grandma. Just didn't have the 6+ hr drive out & back to Jersey city in me this weekend to see GD compete tomorrow
IMG_2355.jpeg
Qualified to compete in triple jump & the 800 meter race.

first time in this dance. Surprised she got this far in her 2nd year. It's the last stop before the main event @ Texas A&M later this month.

Making halupki today, almost ready. It's an all day sort of process. Smells heavenly.

Spent afternoon playing with my grandcats in DSs AC. Believe it's been a week of 90+ days

I did first good nights sleep in days. Thank for that as it does a soul good
That's great to hear!
They biopsied it and the Doc told him he thought it was nothing to be concerned about it and it came back positive for basal cell.
You just never can tell by eying it up. Good luck to you both
Happy belated birthday you your son.
Thanks. #2DS not far behind. Going to cheat and celebrate both the same day
I’am thankful we have a doctor like him locally. He and his staff are wonderful.
Absolutely

Sounds like it will be a lovely celebration. If find some winning salads make sure to share

Oh, you really do it up so well! I haven't noticed anything, haven't really been in that sort of store tho
Yes, proud doesn`t begin to cover how to describe it!! He really does deserve this!!
You should be very proud indeed
Last time was her own fault as she kind of caught her foot as she was dismounting, she swears the horse laughed at her lol......
IDK that lady has had her share of mishaps. Maybe she needs a break from the horses eek. Says the woman who still is freaked out by one biting her as a child.
I’m still surprised that I was never assigned to read it.
Well, you could sneak a peek at the mr's script :teeth: , or just wait for the performance.

Have never seen that one on stage. I hope to never sit thru another performance of Twelve Angry Men or Death of a Salesman, starring HS students Just doesn't work IMO.
I probably need to surrender my southern card now.
lol

I'll eat fried (farm raised) catfish if nothing else catches my eye on fish fry camp menus in the coastal south when vacationing

Here, most avoid bottom feeding fish due to industries along river beds

Banana pudding, well, IMO it's either very good or it's garbage, a mushy, soggy mess

No tiramisu or fuzzy peaches for me

prefer my version of cornbread (sweet, heresy in the south according to my late MiL)

I keep chickening out on trying a casserole I've seen bouncing around online, consisting of pineapple & cheddar cheese ? Any of you southern gals try it?

That is such a useful set of gifts to give new parents, most will buy gifts they may not need, such a good idea.

I don`t know what age 7th grade is, we were given TKAMB to read at age 12/13 one term, I hadn`t seen the movie at that point, just couldn`t get into it at all. Following term was An Inspector Calls by JB Priestly which I loved as it was different, they showed us the movie at school too after we finished it, I loved it, especially as Alastair Sim was in the movie, love anything he does. But there were some horrible books like Kes, I hated that, but we did read some truly lovely books too.

Oh that does sound hot Charade!! We have around 58F today, but feels cooler as the breeze is coming right off the sea, that NE wind is cool!!!

I guess I could be half southern, I adore cornbread and peache but...... iced/sweet/unsweetend tea, bananas and catfish are all huge no`s for me!!! And no to Grits too!!!

You could never be a bad grandma!!! Wow for her performance though so far, that is one young lady that is going to have a sparkling future ahead of her. It`s wonderful to read of children like her than shine in so many areas, a well rounded young lady for sure. It`ll be interesting to see where her talents take her in the future! Good luck for her today, hope she does amazingly well, then Texas!!!!

I`m still serving a variation of a salad we had at Thanksgiving from RP, a cranberry and sweet potato one, minus kale as I loathe that with a passion, but, it`s always popular with anyone I`ve given it to. Not many folks use cold sweet potato over here, but it is lovely, always good to try something different.

That cheese and pineapple dish is not one I`ve heard of. Cheese and pineapple over her is a 1970`s classic party snack, usually served on sticks with a cocktail onion too....it`s hilarious now looking at it, but they are gorgeous. I used to get the job of making them up, mine were all uniform with one square of cheese, one piece of pineapple slice, tinned of course for added class lol and one cocktail pickled onion! Honestly they were so popular and sometimes we do them just for the nostalgia as we all remember them as kids when adults had parties for New Year`s and so on. Very high class......haha....

1720938445299.jpeg

I should add I adore cheese and pineapple together, one of my favourite pizza toppings, but don`t tell the Italian relatives :duck:

I couldn`t pinpoint what catfish tasted of when I tried it, but didn`t appeal to me at all, any other fish I usually love. I still use your cornbread recipe, always a hit.

She is clumsy for sure, but she is a very good horsewoman, just been unlucky last few years. Although she is not as clumsy as my sister! I`ve lost count the amount of times she has fallen over or tripped. She has a weakened ankle due to it being broken several times. But, with Felicity, she gets straight back on the horse, quite literally. I`m a little wary of them, they are gorgeous, but so large.

Again, good luck to GD today!!

Woke up to this news. Heck, hope it doesn`t send out anything retaliatory from anyone, certainly don`t want to wish anyone dead.

It`s not supposed to be raining this morning, but of course it is, bit breezy too and just not July weather.

Had a lovely evening at Kyle`s last night, nice dinner then watched a couple of movies but spent the whole time chatting, just lovely. Back over this afternoon for his dad to do a little job and I`ll find something to do, but he is very organised and thank goodness he is very tidy too!!! We love visiting him in his new place.

So, this morning, not much, Tom has requested a curry again tonight, so no Sunday roast today, I`ll bring out the other half of the curry from last week out of the freezer, dinner sorted, only have to make up some coconut rice. French Toast this morning with bacon and yes, again, lots of tea and heating on for half an hour or so, shouldn`t be on in July, ever!!!

Happy Sunday though, hope it`s a good one!

Good morning all. I think. Terrible events yesterday, and feel sorry for the person who died and the 2 critically injured. No matter your political affiliation it’s a sad day for the US.

I’m back from my trip up the coast. 1 ferry then an hour-ish drive on a very windy road.
We had 2 geodesic domes right on the ocean inlet. Beautiful. We went on a hike to the Skookumchuck narrows our second day. The tidal in or outflow is the time to go. The water gets wild, standing waves, huge whirlpools…people go to surf the standing waves on paddle boards or kayak. None were there that day.
The resort we stayed at has a marina. We signed up one day to go up to The Princess Louisa inlet. 5 hr boat tour. Beautiful.

Will try catching up later! But @schumigirl - about that salmon! I’m on the west coast and it’s a different salmon than what the east coast, Atlantic salmon is. I much prefer our Pacific salmon. Not farmed.

Nice pictures Sue, glad you had a nice time.

Would not touch farmed salmon with someone else`s fork and knife. Of all the salmon I`ve tried, Scottish is still the best, for us.

Had a lovely day despite the weather, spent the afternoon at Kyle`s which was lovely, watched some of the Wimbledon men`s final and it was lovely to see Princess Catherine attend looking well with her lovely daughter with her. Good match too.

We did have our spicy curry for dinner, only made a little rice which was just about right, made salted caramel ice cream this morning so will have some of that later. Time for tea right now and I think some tv tonight, but going to call my brother first and have a chat with him.

Hope your Sunday is just lovely!!

a well rounded young lady for sure. It`ll be interesting to see where her talents take her in the future! Good luck for her today, hope she does amazingly well, then Texas!!!!
I'm all for giving kids opportunities to find their passion

She set an PR in the 800 in her heat. Will see where she does place. Top five qualify for jr Olympics end of month
Cheese and pineapple over her is a 1970`s classic party snack, usually served on sticks with a cocktail onion too.
That sounds good to me
Skookumchuck
Say that 3 times, fast

Looks like a fun trip!

Soon as I saw purple dress, thot of you

Happy Sunday, been busy lifing. Much love to all and prayers to those who need some.
Thursday combined birthday dinner @ Salt at the Ritz Carlton Amelia Island. Some serious grub oceanfront.
Fished the Friday 1 day Atlantic red snapper season and crushed it but got burnt to a crisp by the sun.
BBQ with some young folks we mentor last nite.
Donuts and church earlier, snuggles with the pups during a storm now.
Have 6 hr window on Aug 16th am to hit UO before a weekend convention.
Schumi, I'm up for adoption @ 61. I can cook but not at your capacity. I'm great at washing up.
Keisha, Texas is the crucible of track and field events, best of luck!
Sue, stunning pix!
Mac and my Southern ladies, may you be free from bugs, hurricanes and 100 degree days.

Putting on the Ritz!

We are putting our pointed little heads together at this point trying to figure out possible logistics. Sadly, probably not doable, especially as to last minute air fare. It begs to question why such a quick turn-around & scheduled at Texas A&M, which we discovered is nearly 100 miles from major airport (Houston)???

But, kudos to her, she busted her butt & came in 2nd in both events, more than enough to qualify!

If you’ve never seen the triple jump, it’s a rather interesting process.

Loved watching the triple jump, I'm not that coordinated.
I was a broad jumper and sprinter over HS and college.
100, 200, 400, 100x4, 400x4 variously.
HS track in Texas is a huge deal as are most sports there. Many universities would be hard put to match the stadiums and tracks of the bigger schools.

Absolutely, let them try everything and see where they shine.

Oh yes, mentioned those cocktail stick treats to Tom, his face lit up and said we had to make some up as a snack next weekend lol....

lol.....I loved her dresss and yes, can`t get nicer than purple, she looked so beautiful considering everything she must have gone through recently.

I saw a couple of videos yesterday sent to me of the storm in Orlando, of course it might just have been an average 3pm storm! But, incredible scenes from the park and one from RP.

lol.....cooking is just so much fun!

Wow!!!! She did amazingly well over the weekend and certainly deserves that placing and that is an incredible picture they captured of her! She has so much more in front of her, yes does seem a very quick turn around for Texas.

But, she is a star!!!

It`s not raining :cool1: but it`s not exactly bursting with sunshine either, going to be warmer, but possible rain this afternoon, probably rain tonight. But, we will get walking this morning before doing some shopping.

We have a package being delivered this afternoon, I`ll be in as Tom is out doing his bit as usual, might pop over to visit my friend if it arrives early enough, she can`t drive for another week or so at least, she is not one to sit on her backside usually, so will pass some time with her hopefully.

Croissants, honey ham and fruit for breakfast, no idea for lunch and Tom fancies some pasta for dinner so making a one pot cajun chicken pasta dish, creamy and spicy at the same time, I`m not really a pasta fan so I`ll bake some bread to go with it and pick out the chicken, sauce and whatever else is in it and leave the pasta. Might also make up the meat sauce for lasagne and have that tomorrow evening for dinner, we have a load of garlic from our friend P`s garden, it`s very pungent so only a little is needed!! They don`t have to worry about vampires for sure!!!

Second cup of tea and then think about breakfast before heading out a walk

Monday again and about half way through the month already!!

39 years ago today.....Live Aid.
Doesn’t seem like it has been that long ago. What a performance he did that day.

But, lazy day here, thinking of starting the September TR.
Never to early to start your TR. Always nice to think about upcoming Trip and share tidbits of planning.

Confession time - I was raised in the south but don’t like catfish or cornbread. I also don’t care for peaches or banana pudding. I probably need to surrender my southern card now.
No need to surrender your southern card……there are other folks here in the south who do not like all the southern foods either.

I do like cornbread, grilled or fresh peaches and catfish if made properly. No on ice tea. Everyone else in the family likes ice tea. I come from a line of very good southern ladies who know how to cook. I have had wonderful banana pudding, but I don’t care for it.

Dh was eyeing the Halloween decorations at Cracker Barrel yesterday. He’s never actually decorated for Halloween though.
CB always has some nice Halloween pieces.

Making halupki today, almost ready. It's an all day sort of process. Smells heavenly.
I had to look that up. Looks good.

Sounds like it will be a lovely celebration. If find some winning salads make sure to share
I made the Quinoa salad my sister had on her FB page. Called Jennifer Aniston Quinoa salad. If was very tasty and everyone liked it. I also made homemade macaroni salad. The recipe is on the internet.

Macaroni salad has jarred sweet red pepper chopped up, red onion, sweet pickles, mayo, mustard, sweet pickle juice, salt and pepper. Pretty simple, but good.

I also made some homemade salsa to go with taco chips.

Oh, you really do it up so well! I haven't noticed anything, haven't really been in that sort of
Thank you. You do it up well too with all your outside decorations.

prefer my version of cornbread (sweet, heresy in the south according to my late MiL)
It is funny in the Deep South if you put sugar in your cornbread they call it corn cake. I like cornbread both ways with and without sugar. Although I prefer a little sugar in it myself.

Another dish that is an eyebrow raiser is grits. Most in the south eat grits with salt, pepper and butter. I like it with butter and sugar. I rarely make grits at home and there is only one restaurant I will eat grits at when at home in Florida. If grits are not made right taste terrible.

Of course some southern chefs have elevated grits with the addition of cheese and sauces like in dishes like shrimp and grits.

I say whatever makes you happy prepare it anyway you like.

I’m back from my trip up the coast.
Beautiful pictures Sue.

But, kudos to her, she busted her butt & came in 2nd in both events, more than enough to qualify!
Congratulations to your granddaughter Janet.

It takes a lot of dedication and determination to get to where she is. I wish her lots of success going forward.

If you’ve never seen the triple jump, it’s a rather interesting process.
I have seen it a few times in the Olympics. Making sure you start off on the right foot running and starting the jump from the exact line is in no way as easy as it might look.

I know you are all very proud of her as you should be.

Sun is shining here this morning going to be another hot one.. The humidity is going to be high too. Typical summer weather here.

We had a nice time at the cook out for the birthday celebrations on Saturday. It was beautiful and we all had such a nice time visiting. Everyone enjoyed all the yummy food. My sister and her hubby did a wonderful job with all the grilled meats and we had plenty of sides and desserts.

It seems like time is flying this summer. It will be time for HHN trip soon. Still trying to wrap my head around what ticket to buy. Don’t plan on spending a lot of time at the event, Will see as time goes.

I have a few things to do in the yard today so will need to get out this morning before it gets any hotter.

Will get over and do a little on the TR before I head out the door.

Have a wonderful Monday everyone doing whatever makes you happy.

And just like that, it's Monday :surfweb:

I had a lazy quiet weekend. We were home - as dh and boys worked Saturday afternoon/evening in a provincial building that they are doing renovations in. The work they had to do, needed to be done on off hours when minimal staff needed to be in the building. They got in and out in a reasonable amount of time. So I got to enjoy some alone time on Saturday.

Mostly did some putzing and tidying in the house. I did do a clean out of my closet though. I sorted some clothes, found a whole bag to donate. I keep bugging dh about how we need a closet organizer. Of course, he wants to hold off...and do it when we renovate our bedroom...but that NEVER happens  He is going to come home one time from a work trip and find the bedroom renovated - without his input or anything it he doesn't get onboard and just make his dw happy!!!!!!! And if I do it....the price tag will be ALOT higher :rolleyes1

Or weather is heating up again today, and will be hot (for us) all week again :thumbsup2 I will get up to 90F or 33C. I will take it!!! I am much happier when I'm warm vs cold

Went yesterday afternoon for my pedicure and while I was there my hair stylist asked if I wanted to have my hair done a week early and I said why not. So when my feet were done I had my hair colored and styled. So had a nice salon day.
That sounds like a fantastic way to spend the day!
Oh it feels crazy right now with the weather. We never get complete astronomical darkness in the middle of summer usually, but it feels as if we are completely dark when we go to bed as it`s so cloudy. I always love waking around 2/3am and it`s light....hasn`t happened often this summer so far!!
Our weather has been crazy too! I did have to turn the lights on last night at 10:20 as I was reading and needed the lights on. I was sad  The downhill slide now into darkness. We do get some darkness here...from midnight until about 3:00. The other morning I woke up after dh left for work at 4:30 and it was not nearly as light as it had been a couple of weeks ago. And yes - I think he's insane for getting up and going to work that early :sad2:
Just curious, do you get the intense humidity that we get in the south? I think I could tolerate heat better if there wasn’t so much humidity.
NO....we don't get the humidity - thank goodness. It's a dry heat - like Nevada / Arizona.
Well, call me bad Grandma. Just didn't have the 6+ hr drive out & back to Jersey city in me this weekend to see GD compete tomorrow
Ummmmmm I don't think anyone would call you that! Congats to her qualifying for Texas!!!!!!! That is amazing!!!!!! I am sure they understand. And maybe you will find some last last last minute deal
I keep chickening out on trying a casserole I've seen bouncing around online, consisting of pineapple & cheddar cheese ? Any of you southern gals try it?
ummm...that would be a hard no from me. I am not a fan of fruit cooked with savory items. But I am also someone who doesn't like their food to touch. Yes - I am like a 4 yr old like that :rotfl:

Well, I should shuffle some papers, and some of my to-do list completed for today.

Have a great day everyone!

Good Monday morning everyone :wave2:

I also made some homemade salsa to go with taco chips.

Thank you. You do it up well too with all your outside decorations.

It is funny in the Deep South if you put sugar in your cornbread they call it corn cake. I like cornbread both ways with and without sugar. Although I prefer a littler sugar it myself.

Beautiful pictures Sue.

Congratulations to your granddaughter Janet.

It takes a lot of dedication and determination to get to where she is. I wish her lots of success going forward.

I have seen it a few times in the Olympics. Making sure you start off on the right foot running and starting the jump from the exact line is in no way Is as easy as it might look.

I know you are all very proud of her as you should be.

Sun is shining here this morning gong to be another hot one..

I like the sound of the macaroni salad, something we`d eat. I did try Grits once at someone`s home in Orlando, it was one of those "you`ll love my grits" if you try them, er no, I didn`t, they`re just not for me.

Yes, 39 years and it feels like it was only a few years ago.....maybe a sign of getting older lol...

Glad you had a lovely celebration weekend with family, always nice to spend time with loved ones.

That sounds like a fantastic way to spend the day!

NO....we don't get the humidity - thank goodness. It's a dry heat - like Nevada / Arizona.

Ummmmmm I don't think anyone would call you that! Congats to her qualifying for Texas!!!!!!! That is amazing!!!!!! I am sure they understand. And maybe you will find some last last last minute deal

ummm...that would be a hard no from me. I am not a fan of fruit cooked with savory items. But I am also someone who doesn't like their food to touch. Yes - I am like a 4 yr old like that :rotfl:

Well, I should shuffle some papers, and some of my to-do list completed for today.

Have a great day everyone!

Weather seems crazy all over, we aren`t used to it being so dark in the summer at night, but hoping it`ll change soon and we get some summer at least!!

Oh yes, get the bedroom refurbed, it is one of life`s little treats to have a room makeover, and yes, it`s never cheap no matter who decides what!! One of the reasons I never set a budget, don`t like to disappoint Tom as I know it`ll always be more than I think!! Bedrooms should be everything you want them to be and yes, storage is all important!!

I`m the opposite, I adore fruit with savoury items, love anything sweet and spicy no matter the mix. But, there are a lot of folks with the same thoughts as you with that!

I have sore tootsies, we walked 8 miles this morning and I can feel it! But it was so nice, very humid though which is unusual for us so walking was tough despite it being so mild with no breeze, enjoyed it though.

Went shopping for a few bits, Tom went out volunteering and I went to visit my friend who is feeling frustrated she still has a few days before she can do more, passed a few hours chatting and sorting the world out.

Made Tom the cajun chicken with pasta, I ended up just making some sweet potato wedges for me, made too much sauce but it was nice and spicy which we love, nice dinner!

Cuppa tea time now and not much else!!!

I did try what I was told was traditional southern iced tea....hated it. Tried a sweetened and unsweetened version, not sure which was worse!!! I also tried catfish and hated it, but I adore cornbread!!!!
I love cornbread too and we are having it tonight with (get ready for it.) bean soup!!! Yes, I know beans are one of your favorites, LOL. I use mostly great northern beans with a mix of 16 different types of beans too. I put bacon and carrots in it and serve with cornbread. I made my own cornbread recipe up from a southern one and a Mn.one, LOL. It's a mix of both and we like it.
I loathe Tiramisu..
Oh no.............Not tiramisu..... I have only tried the one kind and it was with a very thin light cake on the bottom and a custard for the rest and topped with tiramisu. I don't know if they added other ingredients, but it was not mushy. It was served cold and I was in heaven. I sometimes wonder if these desserts are made differently in other countries or parts of the US?
lol......got sent this last night by another Christmas crazy friend,
You and Roger. He is busy watching Hallmark Christmas in July shows. I think he's trying to drive me crazy!!!
next Sunday I need to buy something I haven’t purchased in ages - diapers and baby wipes.
LOL had to laugh at that purchase. I think things have changed since I last bought those.....
My favorite local Italian restaurant has the best tiramisu.
I am certainly going to seek it out the next time we are at an Italian restaurant.
I guess I could be half southern, I adore cornbread and peache but...... iced/sweet/unsweetend tea, bananas and catfish are all huge no`s for me!!! And no to Grits too!!!
Oh, I agree with No Grits! I tried them a few times with and without butter and sugar, and plain. They just tasted like eating something gritty and tasteless. I am with you on the catfish, but Only if they are not at our favorite place to eat catfish. They know how to cook them and they are delicious. I know I'm not convincing you, LOL.
I`m still serving a variation of a salad we had at Thanksgiving from RP, a cranberry and sweet potato one, minus kale as I loathe
This salad sounds wonderful. No kale is a good thing.
Had a lovely evening at Kyle`s last night, nice dinner then watched a couple of movies
Sounds like you had a nice visit with Kyle at his new place. I bet he is so proud of his new apartment (condo?).
I’m back from my trip up the coast.
Thanks for the beautiful pictures - looks like the kind of trip I like to take.
We had 2 geodesic domes right on the ocean inlet. Beautiful. We went on a hike to the Skookumchuck narrows
Skookumchuck???? Really? I've never heard of that one.....
it was lovely to see Princess Catherine attend looking well with her lovely daughter with her
I love Princess Catherine and am so glad she is getting out and about. She is such a beautiful, gracious lady.
But, kudos to her, she busted her butt & came in 2nd in both events, more than enough to qualify!
Congratulations to your GD on her 2nd place finishes. I bet you are so proud and what an accomplishment to get to go to the Jr. Olympics. I wish that the flights and circumstances had worked out for you to attend.
I do like cornbread, grilled or fresh peaches and catfish if made properly.
Yes, the properly made catfish is a big one. I shy away from it at places other than the catfish place we visit when in Tn. It is delicious there, as are the fries and slaw. Yum.
Another dish that is an eyebrow raiser is grits.
Yes, a big No to grits.
We had a nice time at the cook out for the birthday celebrations on Saturday.
Congratulations to your family on the birthdays!
Mostly did some putzing and tidying in the house. I did do a clean out of my closet though. I sorted some clothes, found a whole bag to donate.
Pumpkin: I just finished cleaning out all my closets!!! I had about 5 or 6 trash bags full of clothes and other things I don't use anymore to give to charity. It feels so good to get rid of that stuff. I tend to hang on to things even though I haven't worn them in years. It's insane, so I am happy when I do get rid of things.

Happy Monday to all. We are back to 70 degree weather with rain, but that is a very welcome relief from the upper 80's and high humidity. We are not used to those temps anymore. It makes me wonder how we survived all those years in Tennessee? I guess your body just gets used to the weather patterns and you adjust. Now, we are used to the cold and snow - a big change from Tn. We went from one extreme to another!

I am picking up Mom at her apartment for dinner of ham/bean soup and cornbread. I do this at least once a week, and I give her lots of leftovers during the week. She still cooks but I think she likes to get different meals too.

I got up at 4:30am and am now getting tired. I'm going to try for a nap now. I hope I made sense in these posts. If not, I confess I am partway asleep, LOL.

happy Monday to all,

ruth

lol.....beans.....why`d it have to be beans!!! Yup, not my favourite food but I`m sure your dish is lovely, can`t go wrong with cornbread though!! I`m sure your mum will love the dish, you`re so good to her and it`s so nice you can spend so much time with her.

I`ve had Tiramisu in Italy where it allegedly originated from, I`ve had it made by an Italian, a German lady, A Swiss chef and one of my best friends and they all used lady fingers soaked in the espresso liquid, so even if it was dunked quickly, it was still soggy, yes it should be cold. I don`t like ladyfingers as you do have to soak them in something, people used to use it in trifle in the 1970`s....put me off it for life. But, I generally don`t like coffee flavoured things anyway. I do like cream and custard, but Tiramisu is not something I enjoy. Glad you liked it though :) Yes, same with Catfish.....I`m not convinced lol......but we agree on grits being the spawn of the devil lol......

I can`t believe the Christmas movie channel has started here too!!! Far too early.

You would like that salad, it is fresh but so nice, feels like a treat!! Yes, he loves his place, it is so comfy, we love the views and just so spacious and I`m envious he has a balcony lol.....

Princess Catherine is grace personified, such a dignified lady and they have such a beautiful family. Yes, it was lovely seeing her yesterday.

Have a nice nap and enjoy your meal later.....and yes, you made complete sense!!! ☺️

My to-do list is slim today.

We have a new nurse down here today (our regular nurse is away on vacation) and this current nurse did half my job for me. So I'm trying to pass my time today. :rolleyes1

I did try Grits once at someone`s home in Orlando, it was one of those "you`ll love my grits" if you try them, er no, I didn`t, they`re just not for me.
I don't think that is a thing for me either. Same with the breakfast "gravy" .
I am picking up Mom at her apartment for dinner of ham/bean soup and cornbread. I do this at least once a week, and I give her lots of leftovers during the week. She still cooks but I think she likes to get different meals too.
I was much happier after I sorted my drawers and closet.
Princess Catherine is grace personified, such a dignified lady and they have such a beautiful family. Yes, it was lovely seeing her yesterday.
It is wonderful to see her starting to make appearances again. I hope she continues to recover and takes her time before restarting her public appearances again.

I can't wait to renovate the bedroom. It's been the one room we haven't done much with since moving in 23 years ago. So yes....it's a sad little room. And it's tiny - as we live in a small 1970's bungalow. So not much room for large furniture. I have an idea of how I want it to look - let's hope I can pull it off.

Well, off to do some bookings

Thanks all, very fortunate to live in a beautiful part of the world. Had to share photos of my girlfriend getaway! Always a good time traveling with these ladies.

@schumigirl agree, farmed salmon is a hard no. I love our Pacific salmon, if I ever get over your way will have to try the Scottish variety!

@keishashadow :tilt: I tried saying it fast, can’t lol! Good luck to your daughter!

@drenalin'junkie ouch on sunburn! Did you forget the sunscreen!!! Good job on the snapper!
If you see 2 Canadian women looking jet lagged in the parks Aug 16 it will be us lol! We fly in on 15th, land at midnight :crazy2:

@Charade I love catfish, cornbread, peaches, grits! Probably from all the time I spent down south on holidays growing up! I’ll take your southern card, lol.

@Robo56 .im definitely a butter, salt & pepper grit girl! You just reminded me I haven’t made a quinoa salad yet this summer. I should do that soon. It’s been blistering hot and need cold dishes.

@Pumpkin1172 heating up down here too, in 30’s. I walked uphill to see my friend on her birthday yesterday and almost died, in the heat of mid day ugh. There was a shad tree on the corner and stopped under it for a moment to catch a break!

@disneyseniors ugh, all this talk about closet clean outs! I really need to tackle mine but I’m procrastinating.

Today 7 of us got together for our friends birthday. We went to our fav patio on the river. Beautiful day and a nice gentle breeze coming off the river. Good food and good company!
Came home and walked around the side of the house to check on some plants and heard water running. Looked at hose and saw water leaking out. Thought someone forgot to shut it off. Nope. Had to call plumber who will come by Wednesday.
Tomorrow another lunch, with another group of ladies I worked with in the highschool. Then Wednesday have to be home for plumber, it’s husbands golf day.

Almost 10pm here, and dark. I’ll watch next episode of House of Dragon then try and get some sleep. Will leave the night light on!
