Something About Nothing............ #14

Walk in the woods.

i-jLJH3xT-X2.jpg

Glad you have your Halloween stuff in place Robbie.......no Halloween for us, we don`t get kids up here, but we do organise a village event which is always lovely. I don`t mean just Tom and I when I said we, most villagers get involved. Won`t be there this year though as I`ll be at the dentist....early evening appointment!!!! eeek!!!

Gorgeous day, but so cold. (for me anyway)

Popped into the village for some cheese from the deli and picked up some smoked garlic, will use that for Tom`s garlic bread tonight, then he might be in one of the spare rooms tonight with all that garlic :rotfl:

Enjoyed a walk in the woods after lunch, not another soul around, there very rarely is up here which is nice, there`s a definite feeling of solitude for sure.

After our walk it was a lazy Saturday afternoon watching black and white movies with a cuppa and a slice of lemon cake with cream cheese frosting on top...bought from the bakery in the village, but it was so good!

And watched the eclipse over North America earlier on NASA tv, always interesting to see them.

Time for dinner and a glass of malbec to go with the lasagne!

Weirdly, very weirdly............when I was reading your post my screen started bouncing up and down👻:scared1:

To be fair I think my mouse is having a moment or two......don`t think it`s the laptop.

Yes, Malls seem to be losing all the big shops, for us they`re heading to out of town outlet centres, for most folks we now get a lot online, sad but true. And I know for some places the rents are just too high in either town centres or large malls. It`s very sad to see their decline, that place used to be a whole day out but you can do it in less than an hour now. Some decent lunch places but mostly chains.

lol....yes, coincidences happen for sure :rolleyes1.......hope you`re happy with your hair!! Yes, brilliant minds!

Oh now I`m going to be watching for new emails......lol...I cannot wait to hear that FB story!!!!

No!! That`s far too cold Ruth, too early for snow anywhere. I got into trouble from one of the ladies in the farm store the other day when I said our heating was on now....she said we must be made of money and have money to burn putting on the heating so early! I told her its bloomin cold!!! Sorry, won`t be cold, don`t care how much it costs...I got the stink eye to steal a phrase from Janet and she told me to put a sweater on and thick socks......lol......god love her.

I have an image of you sitting gazing out of the window waiting for snow now.....❄️

Feeling very full after a beautiful casserole. I forgot Tom had asked for mashed potatoes, but remembered in time, so we did have gorgeous smooth and creamy potatoes, used my large ricer which makes them even better. Added some red wine to the casserole about two hours before it was ready, and it was beautiful. Very tender chicken is very suitable for me right now.

Baked some madeira cake today, similar to pound cake, so going to have that with a large pot of tea soon, then later will have some store bought salted caramel ice cream, I do like this brand, local business so we do like to buy it when we see it.

Going to watch a Netflix movie tonight, there are some decent ones on there, but you have to search. Too many with Adam Sandler and Melissa McCarthy who are not funny. Well she was funny in Mike & Molly and he was funny in the Zohan movie, that`s it.

My lovely husband is wandering over with my tea and cake......been watching him make it as I sit and type away......he does make good tea and butters a nice slice of cake!
Yep, I'll tell it all in the email, LOL!
You won't believe it but I made a casserole with chicken last night. But I would bet we didn't use the same ingredients. I just found this recipe in a casserole cookbook and it turned out alright. Just needed Mashed Potatoes??!!!
Yep it is halloweeno_Oand spooky stuff is going on!

We just spent 6 hours at the Museum of the Bible and did not see everything. B and dh are in the gift shop right now. I am ready to get on the metro and head back to the hotel.

No museum pictures today, but here’s an obligatory shot of the Washington Monument.

Dh turned the TV on to a football game and promptly fell asleep. I care nothing about UCLA and Oregon State.
I think I will try reading the book I brought.

lol.....that`s funny! Spooky coincidences are absolutely NOT the same as copying... :rotfl:

Glad it was nice though....Tom and I loved this dish, quite sweet for a casserole for maybe some people with the cranberry sauce, but it did balance out with the veg and herbs. It`s been a while since I made it, but will do it again soon.

Who knew bibles had a museum!!

Schumi, such a stunning picture of your walk in the woods.!
It’s looks like a scene from a movie.
The land in your area is amazing!

Thanks mac, we live in a beautiful area, sea in front of us and woods behind and around us, perfect choice of walking areas.

Classic picture.

Cold one this morning for us and quite windy too, but at least no rain, will take that as we`ve had enough rain for this month already. Our gardener said we have a couple more mowing of the lawns as it`s been so wet. But weather man has warned of a very cold snap coming our way!! It`s been so mild so far till last few days where it has changed.

Bacon with poached egg for breakfast, lunch will be shrimp salad with our cocktail sauce which is ketchup and mayo mixed, I make it spicy, will pop that on an open sandwich with lettuce, tomato and some green onion and dinner will be roast pork in an apple cider sauce, doing mini roasties and some roast carrots and parsnips in spicy hot honey. Apple crumble for dessert tonight, will rumble one up later this afternoon.

Will pop out shopping this morning, I need some chocolate and more flour to make a load of Bailey`s chocolate chip cookies for Kyle`s office, will make them tomorrow but hand them in on Tuesday, should do them the rest of the week.

Up far too early this morning, but got a few jobs done and out of the way.

Should be a quiet Sunday all round for us.....☺️

Looks like you had nice weather, Charade. Thanks for sharing some great pictures.

Yesterday was a washout. And cool feeling too. Only was a total of about just over a half an inch, but it seemed to vary from moderate downpour to just that ready lighter rain.

But the rain has left the area, and soon that very dark and cloud covered sky will be that glorious Fall sunshine blue skies. And with 59 the high temp, pants and a jacket. Bit windy to make it feel even cooler.

Moat super sized Sunday to all. Good morning. Just had dawn a few minutes ago, and still nit that bright out.

We are home. It was a good but exhausting weekend. I really need to get into better shape. I’m now watching NASCAR.

Who knew bibles had a museum!!
It’s only been open for about 6 years. I didn’t believe it would take all day to see, but we were there for 6 of the 7 hours they were open and didn’t see it all. It was a lot of history and interactive exhibits. They had a working model of the Gutenberg press, and copy of the Bible in every language it has been translated into. Some were full Bibles and some were partial translations. They even had a list of all the languages that did not yet have a Bible.
We ate in their cafeteria and it was surprisingly really good.

We had great weather every day but yesterday when it was cloudy and rainy. Fortunately we spent all of yesterday indoors.

Back to reality tomorrow. Ugh!

I hear ya, Charade. Alarm set and weekend flew by. We were actually only a few miles from DC today. DH’s great nephew was christened this afternoon, near Falls Church. We just got back.

Hey all
How was it getting both together? I’m concerned about how much my arm will hurt.
One in each arm. The one with the flu shot is still hot & swollen & appetite is off (that’s a good think lol)

Cannot stress it enough, I’d never get both at same time again. Too much, I was flat on back the next day. rarely, do I have absolutely zero appetite. I’m an admitted stress eater

not entirely unexpected, as always had a bit milder reaction to the covid vaxx, fever/chills…akin to mild flu. This time temp was 105 - 104 degrees for almost two full days, doing the Motrin/Tylenol fever break method. The mr was threatening to toss me in car & head to ER if I didn’t start sucking popsicles.

Did rouse myself yesterday to watch the ‘lil read and receive her award & prize for 1st place in essay competition re Willie Thrower (First Throw). The prompt was overcoming adversity and striving for achievement. Will be her first published writing

their foundation had a lovely community day in his honor that was hastily reconvened indoors due to the deluge.

About facebook? I got kicked off of it for a while, but am back on. I will email you the WHY, LOLOLOL
Hahaha you ornery woman, you!

JK, I was banned from twitter, for life. Only created an account to follow the disney food blog. Liked it, then added my kids, some family & friends. Then added the orlando park accounts, some HHN sites…bingo!

it was smitted (smote?) along with most of their followers.

funny thing was I never actually made a tweet on the platform…yet
i wear it as a badge of honor:charac2: Least it gave me street cred with my kids

Tower made of books written about Lincoln.
That is very inventive. By chance, any idea how many books in that display?
The foot is coming along, but not as fast as I would like. I’am working on the patience is a virtue thing.
don’t sell yourself short, you have it in spades. Hope you are out of it before the snow flies.
Bailey`s chocolate chip cookies for Kyle`s office, will make them tomorrow but hand them in on Tuesday, should do them the rest of the week.
Not sure if you had me at Bailey’s, chocolate chip or cookie. It’s a need, not a want to send me those directions, please.

Glad you had such a lovely trip together Charade and glad weather behaved most of your trip. Yes, always a slight downer getting back to reality.

Lovely picture of your GD and huge congratulations to her that is a real achievement, especially as she is still so young. That young lady has a wonderful and impressive future ahead of her, she is so talented in so many areas. You all have every reason to be proud of her and shout it from the rooftops!!!!

Last year we got the flu/covid shot together and luckily we were both fine, rethinking it this year though although I`m not sure they`re still offering boosters.....maybe I`ve had my head in the sand but heard nothing about it so far. Last year was the first time I`ve ever had the flu jag, still thinking in the back of my mind I`m still too young for it......lol.....wishful thinking there!!! Glad you`re doing better though and especially to see the presentation yesterday, high temps are so scary though, I`m sure your lovely mister was watching you like a hawk.

I do like people who have some backbone and edge about them......lol......always enjoy being friends with rebel people who have been banned from something:rotfl:

I was banned from an actual place many years ago, you`ll laugh when I tell you it was a Railway Museum. There is a story of course.......it involved Thomas the Tank Engine, cold weather, long lines for the Thomas Train and a very disappointed group of children who deserved better than they got after waiting two hours!!! Yes, this angry mother made her point....I even got a round of applause and no I wasn`t nasty or shouting but everyone felt the same way.

Will send you the recipe off.....very simple, I`ve changed an ingredient so will let you know how it turns out tonight when I bake them!!

Glad you`re doing better.

Very proud of my son who yesterday took part in a 10 mile run and did it in a much better time than he thought he would! With the injuries he`s had this year he has done brilliantly. He said they all enjoyed it and his group all did well. It was within a marathon so they stayed, had a picnic and watched the rest of the finishers as they all had a picnic together, looked a fantastic atmosphere. It was a gorgeous day but cold in the morning, however by the time lunchtime came around he said it was warmer but the pictures he sent they all had big winter hats on as they sat watching the end of the marathon. Don`t blame them.

Going to be a lovely day, some sunshine and no high winds, so might head out a walk soon, it`s still dark right now, but is getting lighter so looks ideal for an early walk.

We have to leave the gate open as our window cleaner comes today, they need it as our driveway was power washed on Friday and the windows have some stuff on them from that. Don`t need any shopping but might pop out and see if anything takes my fancy, quite fancy some new towels.

No idea for food tonight, but will be baking some cookies for Kyle`s office, will have to taste of course.....purely for quality control!!! Will see what Tom fancies for dinner.

More tea and some toast before we head out I think.

Have a wonderful Monday

Ugh, Monday, and my DH was the alarm 15 minutes before our alarm did go off. Sigh. But at least it’s a clear sky. Oddly had some rain as got close to home last night. Didn’t remember that rain was in the forecast last night. And so, with that clear sky, temp is 47 degrees out, when I tossed the last of the trash in that dash out and in from our now heat on house heater. To be a mostly sunny day, and high is 60. Hmm, shorts might be on. Hehe.

And so, yep, back to that week day routine again. DH asked last night if we had a holiday today. Um, that was last week. But yay, next month we get two. A Friday, less than a month from now, and then a Thursday two weeks later. Woot. Holidays are now a month away. Wow has this year gone by.

Congratulations to Keisha’s GD. Nice accomplishment, and should be very proud of her.

A woot to Schumi’s son, as nice of him to pick up running, and doing so well in this weekend’s run.

Glad to hear had a great trip, Charade, and mostly nice weather. Kids have said they may want to do a long weekend visiting the museums. Older one is a history fan, and both enjoy museums. Little one still talks about her enjoyment of the News Museum, which has now been closed for some time, since we were there.

And so, that early starting homie I am, and a trash pick up day to start that week day routine. Should be hearing those trash trucks in less than a hour from now. I have heard them as early as around 7 am. As such, as we drove into our neighborhood last night, all have their trash cans by the curb, in the evening. Not many, if any, heard dragging them in the early morning hour.

Thus, tea for me, as felt a bit cool inside. And well, tea for me every morning. Going to get another refill. And so, a wish for all to have that most Marvelous Monday today.

@keishashadow

I tried the Baileys recipe, but we couldn’t really taste the Bailey’s, so I used a regular chocolate cookie recipe that you melt the butter before mixing with the sugars, I’ll send it off to you all the same if you fancy trying it.

I do prefer smaller chunkier cookies, but these spread like wildfire so are thinner but still chewy in the middle and a little crispy round the edges, suits folks that like both styles. I also chunked up my own bars of chocolate with a knife and patience……worked well as there are still a lot of chunks in the cookies.

Diet gone again and it’s only Monday 🥴

This made about 60 large cookies.

The ones with the fudge pieces on top were the experimental Baileys ones that may not have made it into the containers for Kyle’s office……lol…….

Next time I will do them smaller and chunkier.

Only going to hit 54 degrees today. Feels like below freezing After the Orlando heat. brrr

Interestingly, our BR got so hot last night we put on the window AC. Think we may need to call out the furnace guys to make sure they hooked output out right. Hot water heat can be a bear to get the various radiators in sync.

still not much of an appetite. need to go sniff around the kitchen to see if something grabs me.

tonight going to try to make a version chipotle bowls (cilantro need not apply) of a sort to use up the leftover chicken. not sure if i have brown rice, may need to bundle up and bop out of house

lynne - i like the way your DH thinks as to a four day work week. Heck, I have a calendar with a daily observance on it...today is dictionary day. We missed celebrating grouch day yesterday. i shouldn’t enjoy that calendar as much as I do lol

Last year was the first time I`ve ever had the flu jag, still thinking in the back of my mind I`m still too young for it......lol.....wishful thinking there!!
Kids get it here, too. They used to give an inhaled version to kids, easy peasy. Then, withdrew from market.

They are morphing over to recommendation of an annual covid vaxx (in reality a booster) given the same time as a flu shot to make it easier for folks to remember to take care of business.

personal choice, most of those I know with underlying medical conditions do the drill, considering the possible alternatives.💀

This was my first year to receive “the senior version” What? Flu shot. Yep, my nose was decidedly out of joint there:rolleyes1

Just got around to reading the insert they gave me…file that under better later than never

turns out this version (high-dose of adjuvanted flu shots - that’s a mouthful), is 1/4 % stronger than the regular one…along with increased number & level of side effects.

still, the end does justify the means in my mind

Made my day :p

:banana:the rehab process had to be quite frustrating for him. Congrats to sticking it out and coming out the other side!

Yep, cilantro free home here too....bleurgh!

I didn`t know there was a senior version!! Yes, vulnerable folks with certain conditions certainly need to keep them up.

I`ll share the full gory story sometime.....lol.....Tom says it was one of my finest moments! Every time we mention London and trains it always gets brought up!

Kyle has done amazingly well considering, his physio is thrilled with the progress he`s made recently, fingers crossed. There are no big races over the winter, but he still runs with the club three times a week and whatever he does away from that.....I`m quite in awe of his abilities there. I couldn`t run for toffee!!

Just had another cookie! They are very nice.

Not so cold tonight, but still feeling that big change this week, bad weather coming Wednesday night and 50mph winds forecast coming our way probably Friday into Saturday, no plans to go out those days now!!

Planning an early night tonight I think, one of the benefits of dark nights, you don`t feel silly going to bed early!

Tonic water time.....

I’m now of the mind that it’s far easier to drive thru chipotle for a couple of bowls than make them from scratch. :faint:

Still waiting for the corn relish & tomato salsa to marinate properly. Good thing the Mr picked up donuts when out
