Something About Nothing............ #14

Thoughts and prayers go out to our lovely Ruth at this time.

Sadly her only brother Steve, passed away peacefully on December 26th. He was in hospice care so he was made very comfortable, but as we all know, Ruth and her family will be going through a very tough time, losing a close family member is never easy.

Ruth, take your time coming back to us, it is a lot to process and until then, hope you find some peace and can enjoy spending time with your loved ones.

Lo & behold, half of my previous attempts @ quotes decided to populate. Better than nothing

Have been baking for good portion of the day & my pulled pork is done, waiting to be sauced tomorrow; all in anticipation of the NYE festivities. Will get the pork roast going in the late AM to suitably brown the kraut by 6 pm. Then, the meat sauce needs to start simmering. House is going to smell divine :) :) :)

We enjoy having the family over and bit of an open house. At the point where pajamas vs sequins tend to be the favored dress
Our lifestyle precludes blood thinners or we'd have fewer problems.
Has she tried support knee highs? I resisted them until I had the baker’s cyst issue a year ago. I kept being told I “had” to wear them & could go with the lower pressure ones that nurses and runners wear.

Going forward I was thunderstruck how comfortable they were when training for the 5K and then in the amusement parks & when flying or long drives.

Found some on amazon that are well-made, reasonably priced and, dare I say it; actually not that bad as in colors and different prints, etc.
Ricotta and lasagne are not a thing over here, I`m glad as I don`t like ricotta in any form!!
I season my ricotta in the lasagna to make it more palatable. I also tend to do a thin layer and add some smoked mozzarella to it.

I have done cannolis & cheesecakes with it. came out good, long as tempered with cream cheese & lots of sugar lol
glad we went as he came first again
Woohoo to your running man!
but we all still had a lovely day with beautiful food and a lot of laughter with tears too throughout the day, but we celebrated
Aw, glad it turned out as well as can be expected. Sounds as though it was cathartic, start to healing trip for all.
I guess cad is an appropriate word
Can’t say I’ve seen that word used in ages, however, it surely sounds spot on in this instance. Good to hear things went so well.

looks like I will be up tonight to find any local eateries listed that will be open Christmas day ….

Mr Mac nor I made reservations for a Christmas dinner ….

I thought he made a ressie and he thought I made one…..

Worse case scenario would be we make grilled cheese sandwiches at home….lol

Most likely I will hit Publix in the morning and buy red meat for a simple Christmas dinner.
So that would be an easy fix.

(Prefer not to have grilled cheese sandwiches for Christmas…..)

The one thing we miss from living in Chicago is grocery stores are always open.
That city never sleeps.

In this case it’s good. She is very sweet, super outgoing, very happy to have another brother. She is the only girl in the family. Well, the only one they know about. She has long since come to terms with the fact that her father was a……..I guess cad is an appropriate word. She said he was a great father, but a lousy husband. We figured out that he fathered at least 3 children in the same year - his younger son with his wife, another boy whose birth mother kept but told the father she didn't want him in their life (unfortunately that boy had cancer and passed as a teen) and dh whose birth mother placed for adoption.
Dh was given a lot of family information which he is still trying to process. I don’t know if he will explore the family in depth, but he does plan to stay in touch with his sister.

Ah that`s good to know.

I do like that word Cad....a descriptive word of it`s time for sure, but agree, it is a lot for your husband to process but glad the sister seems nice and they get on well.

Glad the glitch sorted itself, I always found Corey to be very helpful of you have any issues re tech stuff, seems a decent guy who cares about the Dis running well.

I just don`t like ricotta in any form, but American lasgne is very different to UK versions, ours are more set with a home made cheese sauce on top, maybe make one in the next couple of weeks, always a favourite. That`s how I do my pulled pork, in the slow cooker then do the sauce separately and add after shredding, can`t go wrong with that dish, everyone loves it!!

Yes, proud of my boy and his running talents, and agree, Christmas was an experience and the start of moving on, my sister was insistent we enjoy the day. I`m so proud of her actually and how strong she has been.

Have a great day today!!!

it is rare for me to not be asleep at this time of night
keep waking up
i blame the cats….

That`s why we don`t have animals!!!

Blowing the preverbial hoolie out there today, windy, cool and grey best describes it, enjoying a cosy day at home, but it feels like a Sunday.

Slept till almost 9am this morning, far too comfy to get up and when we heard the weather, decided it was the cosiest place to be. So, late breakfast means a snack day ahead, made two quiches so that along with some proscuitto, shrimp, smoked salmon, spicy chicken skewers and some various other continental meats, coleslaw and various olive and salad dishes and some bread too, that`ll keep us and any folks who drop in happily snacking all day and evening.

No plans to go to any parties tonight, Kyle is coming over around 10pm, will see the new year in with us before they head out to someone`s house party, hope he`s not too late as he`s running 15K on New Years Day at 9am, then he`ll come back for dinner tomorrow. A few friends usually drop in here and there and we sometimes visit them, but nothing like it used to be, still nice though.

So, lazy day, nibbling, having the odd adult beverage, might fit some tea in there now and again and watch some dvd`s. All the trees and decorations are all on and lit up, candles around on too, but after tomorrow it all comes down, everything looks so bare when that happens.

Cuppa tea and snack time and a decision I don`t need to make a New Years Resolution this year....although maybe I should lol.....

Have a lovely Tuesday and NYE!!!

Yes, we are set up now for tonight’s dinner plans.
I did not do a thing as Mr Mac did the shopping this morning.

Will have steak and mashed potatoes.

Of course there will be broccoli as Mr Mac can’t live without it.

It’s just the two of us and we keep our meals simple.

Of course he forgot to get soft cat food but they do eat mashed cat food as I use a blender for them.

They have less teeth than I do.
They are older Kats and can lick soft cat food and use to it.

They gum their food.
They never go hungry.

Since I had quite a few on my molars taken out, I gum my food too…..lol

I am just like my kats when it comes to mushy foods.

Watching the weather channel and not going to have a warm day.
I can live with that.
Weather will be up and down due to the wind.

I can deal with this weather much better than when we lived in Chicago.

Hope all the homies have a great day!

Hello,
I thought that it would be more efficient to intrude on this active thread for a referral question than starting a new one.

Can you nice folks direct me to a site or videos that describe some strategies for touring the parks? We are Disney veterans, but only visited Universal one in 2016. We are staying at Portofino and expect to walk to the parks some of the time. Visiting Jan. 13th-16th.

Thanks for any assistance and insight!

the path is a bit too long for me, even cutting thru HRH parking lot
boat service very prompt, relaxing, enjoy it

you will have express pass for most attractions, easy peasy The only two rides that do not accept Universal Express are Hagrid’s Magic Creatures Motorbike Adventure and Pteranodon Flyers, both of which are located at Universal’s Islands of Adventure.

Hope you enjoy the steaks tonight, our New Year Eve dinner is different every year, tonight is snack foods and champagne!!! Steaks for us tomorrow though as voted for by all of us.

Wind here is bad too, not going to be nice over the next few days.

Your food sounds amazing!!! Family will appreciate all of it, and fabulous job with the keto foods!!! Not sure that sounds like something that would appeal to me either but, he`s doing well on it.

Hope you have a lovely evening and day tomorrow with all the family!!!

Weather is still foul here, heavy rain, high winds although it`s not too cold somehow.

Our newly turned 90 year old in the village had a smaller than planned get together, she was very tired, so just a small group from the church went in the end, she had fun though which was nice to hear.

Had a couple of friends pop in today, the weather has stopped anyone coming out tonight, apart from Kyle and the gang who`ll be here soon. By 12.15am they`ll be gone lol..fed and watered again. We`ll see him and some others tomorrow.

Only a couple of hours till midnight here, I`m sure we`ll be in bed by the time you all celebrate tonight....so hope you have a wonderful time celebrating!!!

Ah, goodbye to the year of 2024 tonight. And a picture of the castle to be the ending of the Christmas season:

IMG_3733.jpeg

May all have a safe and wonderful New Year’s Eve.

And who should celebrate that mid week holiday tomorrow? Hehe, he’s ready to say to all his reminder.

We have a 50 percent chance of rain this evening. Maybe we’ll be lucky, and roll that dice, so get that we are in 50 percent of our 100 percent area, that won’t see rain tonight.

And yay, holiday 4 day week day routine for me this week, then next week, 3 day, mourning day Thursday.and a lazy Friday, then full day week routine after that, with then third week in January being also a 3 day week, starting with a holiday Monday, and with a lazy Friday. Woot!

Good evening all, though dinner time here, and no one interested in food yet.

Happy New Year from the UK!!

Had about 10 from around 10.30.......12.15am they have gone, now we can get to bed soon, let the youngsters party!!

Having a Bailey`s with lots of ice watching some Scottish Hogmanay show celebrating 2025 arriving in style.

Looking forward to Eggs Royale tomorrow morning for brunch, New Years dinner will be around 3.30pm as the kids have some party to go to later. Weather looks better so hopefully a few folks will pop in, open door always here.

Wishing you all the best for 2025 🥂
