Something About Nothing............ #14

Super quiet here today.

I have an update on dh’s family situation. For those of you who are newer and may have missed previous posts - a summary: Dh was adopted as an infant. Several years ago did an Ancestry DNA test. Later discovered a potential niece who was also adopted and looking for her birth family. This led to finding possible siblings.

While B and I were in Orlando dh had a couple of phone calls with his possible half sister. She is one of 3 children born to the same 2 parents. Apparently their father was a good father but a terrible husband. Their mother knew of his infidelity but put up with it for the sake of the children. So dh has 2 older half brothers and 1 half sister from this family. The younger of the 2 brothers is only about 10 months older than dh. There was also another half brother by a different woman who passed at age 17 from cancer. The dad knew of his existence, but was never a part of his life.
The more we learn about this family the crazier it gets. Dh wants to ask his possible sister if she would be willing to do an official test to determine if they really are siblings. We also want to go meet her in person soon. She only lives a few hours away. We need to do it soon because she told dh that she is in the early stages of dementia.
Dh has been pretty blown away by all of this information. I think it will take him a while to process all of it.

I think it’s exciting that you and your family will be able to get to learn more about the relatives you were not aware he had up into now.

I would love to find a cousin or two!

I did not grow up around extended family. I have only met my aunts and uncles a handful of times. There is one aunt I have seen more than the others, but I can go the rest of my life and never see her again. She’s the one who stole my mom’s life savings.

Dh grew up as an only child, so finding out he has biological siblings this late in his life has really been bizarre for him.

Haven`t read back this last week`s posts but hope you had a lovely trip Charade and best of luck for your husband with meeting his possible family members, not always an easy path but sounds as if he will cope well with it all.

Thank you ladies, it`s been quite a 10 days since my sister`s husband very suddenly passed away, I do appreciate keeping in touch with the lovely emails , you know who you are 🥰

And thank you for the good wishes too, I do need to catch up properly.

We`ll be heading back up next week for the cremation and spend a few days, Kyle has been given time off so he`ll be with us too. Always tough when someone you love passes.

But, for now a little normality in day to day stuff.

Woke up this morning to our very first hard frost of the season, everything was pure white and we didn`t put the car in the garage last night so it was white too.

Glad to have that remote start on our car, switched it on from our front sitting room, so we never have to go scrape ice off the car windows thankfully, it also heats the seats and steering wheel too before we get in, lovely!!!

And it was needed as we were in the minuses this morning, -3 and felt colder, but got some groceries and popped into our butcher who thought we had got lost, picked up some peppered steaks for tonight and will make some dauphinoise potatoes with whatever veg we feel like.

Have a lovely Monday ☺️

Schumi…you win on having the coldest weather!

The one thing about us living in the south is it’s a lot warmer here than where we had lived in the north.

Only negative living in Georgia is missing our kids.
It’s just not possible for them visiting us due to the distance they have to travel.
They have careers and now children.

My brothers stayed in our home town close by to the parental units until they changed jobs.
I did move them up to where we lived when they hit their golden years.

They never adjusted to the move, it was hard for them to be uprooted when they were in their 90’s.

Quick hello before heading out to work. I really don’t want to go in today.

@schumigirl Welcome back.

We are trying to figure out when we can go visit dh’s sister. It’s difficult right now now with holidays and end of semester coming up. Al of the siblings have names that start with the letter S.

S1 - brother, is also the bio dad of C who is the young woman who contacted dh through Ancestry years ago. She is adopted and was looking for her bio family.

S2 - the sister dh has been in touch with

S3 - brother who is about 10 months older than dh. S2 and S3 are currently not on speaking terms.

In addition, there was at least 1 other brother born to a woman that was not the bio dad’s (I’ll call him R) wife. And there may be another sister. Dh was contacted by another woman, also adopted, who matched with him on Ancestry. He suggested to her that they might be siblings, but she never responded to his email after that.

His family is starting to get very complicated.

Hello Everyone:

I just wanted to post to let you all know that I will be away from the SANs for a while, due to a loved ones illness. I just dont'feel like posting at this time but will check in at times to read your posts, which I enjoy. I hope to be feeling like posting again soon. Thanks.

Again Ruth, sending you all our good wishes. Take care of yourself and come back when you`re ready ❤️

Not an award I want to win!!

Snow gritters are out again tonight, going to be a chilly one out there!!

Good morning schumi!
It’s great to have you back as you have been missed here.

Thanks mac, it`s nice to be back.

Goodness that is complicated! I wonder how many of us would be in a similar situation if we went searching!

Cold but sunny day here, our home is very cosy though thankfully, I don`t understand folks who won`t put the heating on till December, just because!!! Er, no, if we`re cold the heat is on. I can only imagine how damp some folks houses could be with no heating.

Not much going on tonight, I have some emails to reply to and might watch some dvd`s.

Time for a cuppa and a choccy biscuit to go with it.

I love your phrasing for your dh's visit to a rehab hospital. Your family's guardian angels were definitely looking out for your daughter-in-law!!! Life can change in the blink of an eye. I will be sending lots of light and love to you and your family.
Thank you Pumpkin. I think I read you have snow already? I’am glad you all got to enjoy some warmth in Florida minus the hurricane issues.

I’am going to have a look at your trip report today and catch up.

Prayers for your daughter in law Robbie!
An accident like that makes a person’s head spin!
I think that you have a lot on your plate now with your dil and your husband.

Prayers said for them and you.

Things like this can take the starch out of you.
Thank you Mac.

Now I have a gut feeling Mr Mac is buying the store out…
Dang, it does not take over an hour to buy the items I put on his list.
That is funny. I think guys like to look around sometimes at all the snack items we don’t bring home.

thats scary, you never do know whats waiting around the corner
It is.

Prayers for your DIL. Very thankful that she was not seriously injured.
Thank you Charade.

Glad to hear you and B had a nice vacation to Universal.

The Wicked experience photos you shared are awesome.

here's to them getting him back on his feet soon!

Oh Robo, glad she is okay, after being hit by a car. So scary. And hope your DH is getting better.
Thank you, Lynne. DH might get to come home tomorrow.

I hope your hubby is doing well and progressing.

How often do most have their nails done?
I have a pedicure once a month. I call that my “Happy Feet Day”. Manicures not so often as I like to mess around in the garden outside.

Observations - 2 girls just walked past
Me wearing pigmy puff bedroom slippers.
LOL……have you ever seen what some people wear to the grocery stores. I did not get the memo that wearing pajama pants to the store was in style.

We went to Olivander’s and B was chosen for the wand ceremony. She was thrilled.
That was nice that B was chosen.

Today’s observation - I’m waiting for B to ride Velocicoaster. There is a tiny snake on the ground near me. Another guest is trying to get it to crawl onto a leaf so he can pick it up and move it into a planter so it won’t get stepped on. The guest is wearing a Slytherin lanyard.
Yuck!!!!!

Whipped up some delicious roasted tomato and pepper bisque and grilled cheese for dinner last night. It turned out fantastic
Wow…sounds delicious.

My wonderful daughter Em was diagnosed with cancer 18 months ago and our world imploded. It’s a complex diagnosis and we’ve been in some tough times but she is amazingly positive and we all keep ourselves pushing forward to try and alleviate stress for her two children.
So nice to hear from you RFF. So sorry to hear about your daughter’s cancer diagnosis. Sending prayers her way for a good outcome and healing.

Today, we (meaning he) raise the christmas tree. Only doing one this year. Probably just lights, it’s pre lit but we always add more. The decorations will be placed as the spirit moves us over the next day or so
Putting up your Christmas decorations will make things more festive for sure. Just turning the lights on the trees does lift the spirit.

Ruth I wish you well and I will be sending prayers and good thoughts your way.

Sometimes we all have to take a step back and regroup when the things in our life get complicated and painful for ourselves or our family.

You will be missed while you are gone.

Carole good to see you back. I was sorry to hear about your brother in law. Sending prayers for you and your family.

It is funny how time seems to be flying away. I looked at the calendar and including today it is 38 days till Christmas. It will be here before your know it.

Good news hubby is coming home tomorrow. I heard from the Case-manager just al little while ago. He is ready. I’am looking forward to having him back home.

Daughter in law is having MRI today on her knee that was injured in the accident. The ER sent her home with crutches and meds telling her nothing looked broken then called her the next morning and said she needed to see Orthopedic Doc ASAP. She went that morning and they are looking more aggressively at her knee as she still cannot put any weight on it.

Most of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren came over yesterday to do leaf clean up around the property. It was 61 degrees out so perfect yard work day. I had coolers with water and soft drinks. I set out fruit and snacks and made dinner after.

It was fun hanging out with them and hearing their laughter.

I gave them all some cash for all their hard work.

After dinner we all went to see hubby at rehab. There is a nice large area in the lobby for families to enjoy. He was happy to see everyone and they were all happy to see their grandpa for sure.

I our granddaughter M knew of a reasonable hauling company so we made arrangements for them to come by and take away the leaf bags and some other things that I wanted to get rid of in the garage this afternoon.

The company is owned by two young men one of which I found out our grandson went to high school with. After speaking to one of them on the phone and meeting the other just a little while ago when he arrived to haul the leaf bags and other items away. I know they will do great with their business. They are both nice young-men.

I have had a list of things to do going for awhile and have slowly been marking things off on the list. I need to wash and vacuum the car today.

We are going to reach 68 today then 70 tomorrow then the cooler temps are coming.

I need to write a card and attach it to the goody basket I made for the staff. I will take it in when I go to see hubby this afternoon.

I think a little nap would be nice before I go.

Have a wonderful Monday everyone.

68 degrees and a full day of sunshine. I’ll take it, given back to mid 50’s and even. 49 degrees as the high the rest of this week’s days.

Back to week day routine I am. And time of year, hopefully one of the few full week day routine week days, weeks, this week is. Next week, holiday one, and bonus 4 day weekend, counting that holiday Thursday to start it.

Only good thing a commuting day start tomorrow, is the free lunch cater from a colleague leaving us, will be tomorrow. Not that before dawn commute I get to start the day.

Most Marvelous Monday, and welcome home Charade, and take care Ruth.

Good Monday afternoon everyone :wave2:

Thank you Robbie, it was the most terrible shock for us all. We go back up next week for the cremation, dreading that one.

I haven`t read back through the posts I missed but hope your husband is doing well, he has been in hospital and now in rehab and your daughter in law has been in an accident!! All good wishes for both of them, what a double worry for you.

Glad to hear your husband is coming home and extra good thoughts for you DiL`s MRI, they do need to find the cause of that.

Sounds like a lovely day yesterday, it is so much fun getting together like that doing jobs, it`s so lovely having your family around you!!

Having an orange flavoured hot chocolate tonight for us, it`s like drinking a Terry`s Chocolate Orange, it`s maybe a little sweet but nice now and again.

It is so cold out there tonight, we can see everything will be white in the morning, hopefully we won`t get snow, it is snowing up in Scotland so I hope it doesn`t head as far down where we are, probably won`t.

Taggart tv show coming up for us.

No plans to go out today, it is baltic here!

A little sleet and hail along with a wind that I swear has arrived from Siberia knocking on our main door!!! Creamy and spicy butternut squash soup for lunch today, I do have some onion bread in the oven right now, no one is going outside to cut some rosemary, so onion will do. Chicken and leek pie tonight for dinner, will make my pastry later, using shortcrust pastry tonight, very winter warming for this weather.

Going to spend the morning putting ribbon through a load of Christmas baubles so they can go straight on the trees when we put them up, so many need it replaced so in Orlando I bought some appropriately colured fine ribbon for each tree and matching baubles. I think they`ll look good, may want to do them all with new ribbon, or maybe not there is just too many and most already have lovely ribbons to hang them on the tree with. Might put on some Christmas music while I do that.

Had a late sleep when we heard the wind outside and hail on the windows, best place to be in this weather and of course our window cleaner came yesterday!

Another pot of tea, going to be one of those days where tea will be a popular choice.

Finally getting around to stopping by :wave2:

Had a busy day yesterday and a somewhat quiet weekend.

We watching the fight on Friday night. We called dd and family to come over and we ordered chinese food. We are definitely enjoying having them be able to come over whenever.

We cleaned a few corners in the basement and made room for some new furniture down there for him. All he needs is a little beer fridge (which I'm thinking will be his birthday present) and he will have a nice little set up down there.

Other than that - the weekend was more of a lazy weekend.

Yesterday at work - it was a busy day. I'm training a new casual who works upstairs in systemic - so that if I'm sick, she will be able to easily we called in to cover. It was a good training day - with all the weird one off things happenings that happened yesterday.

Woke up to full on snow this morning  The snow has arrived in full force and won't be going away anytime soon. Must have had at least 6 inches fall overnight, and it's still falling. The forecast is that it won't stop until tomorrow sometime, and the temps will be below our average. I'm dreaming of warmer places and temps!

Marveled at Iron Mike, not much younger than me, hung in there. Can’t wait to see Mr Paul’s team pick somebody for a match who is in their prime & a real contender.
It was an interesting match up. Neither one wanted to go full force on one another. I was hoping that Tyson would get least one good punch in to give him a jolt - but Tyson was also at a disadvantage as Jake had a much longer arm reach.
at least it keeps people out of the standby line for Hagrid lol.
I never thought of it that way :scratchin If they weren't meant to be picked - they weren't.

But, for now a little normality in day to day stuff.
 I'm glad to see you're back. Your sister is lucky you have a good support system to navigate a hard road to travel.
His family is starting to get very complicated.
I hope he takes the time he needs to process all of that new information. It sounds like it's extremely complicated.
I just wanted to post to let you all know that I will be away from the SANs for a while, due to a loved ones illness.
 Sending you many tight hugs.

Yikes!!!! Sounds like our weather. Our patients who are travelling are saying how cold and strong the winds are today. It's not nice outside today.

Well, I start this while drinking my tea before starting any work. That didn't last long before things and people started coming to my desk. It's almost lunchtime.

Have a great day everyone!!!!!!!
