Something About Nothing............ #14

keisha, you got me at unlimited white sangrias!!!!

Beautiful pictures as always, it looks so lovely and yes, I hear it`s hotter than Hades right now! And the little un is so tall now!!!!

Did we go twice to Sharks Grill??? Heck, I forget now.......and I don`t have the heat to blame for my brain fade!!!

Enjoy the rest of your trip and have a good July 4th!!!

We drove out to Roanoke, had lunch at Red Robin, and now it is pouring outside. We are still in the restaurant hoping the rain will slack off soon.

I think a couple of hours of reading beats kayaking any day, but I’m not much of a water person.

One of my grandmothers was also Sarah. She gave the name to one of my aunts as well. I wish she had named my mom Sarah instead of the name she got. Mom always hated her name.

Thanks for sharing.

Lynne - good to see you.

The rain has slowed down so we are going to make a break for it.

We`ve never tried Red Robin, folks seem to like it though, there are a couple in Orlando we could try.

Sarah/Sara is definitely prevalent in our family on one side, my aunt did ask if I had a girl if I`d give her Sarah as a middle name, I said no.

Hi Robbie :wave2:

We are back home. The rain seems to have passed for now. I did a little shopping at the mall in Roanoke. I got really annoyed at the Belk store. I found several things I wanted to try on, but they had closed to fitting room in the plus section. I went to the next closest fitting room, but it only had 3 stalls, all were occupied, and there were 2 other women in front of me waiting to try on a bunch of clothes. I didn’t see an employee anywhere. I left my clothes on the rack in the fitting room and went down the mall to Lane Bryant. There I was greeted, asked if I needed help finding anything, and then was offered to hold the items I had found while I continued shopping.
No other plans for tonight. I am dreading tonight when the neighbors start playing with fireworks.

Neither B nor her cousin inherited the name either. I gave B and old, obscure family name as her middle name.

I think some names are best left behind, but there are some beautiful names around to choose from. The males on my dads side were all called George, I didn`t plan to give Kyle that name even as a middle name, but I know several relatives, not my dad actually all suggested Kyle got that as a name or middle name, again, no. Names are such a personal thing, we actually have a double barrelled surname, but only use the middle one, everyone knows us by that middle surname and some folks think that`s weird, fair enough.

I loathe fireworks with a passion, especially seeing folks who don`t understand just how much damage a small firework can do. We don`t have pets, but so many folks talk about how upset their pets get and of course people too.

Some places here have their fitting rooms open since they were all closed for covid reasons, but some places never did open them back up. I like the option of having a changing room if I am shopping, but more of my clothes I tend to order online, returns are so easy to do.

Still a bit breezy this morning, it is easing so we`ll get out a walk this morning, might head into the woods for a change. Going to pop into the village for a few bits for the weekend then some shopping a couple of villages away, out deli has closed for a month as the owners go back to Italy for the whole of July every year, but there is another one we like their produce so will pop there, we like some of their stuff a little better I think.

With the wind easing we might get to grill out tonight, I have a pork fillet I`ll marinade in some soy, balsamic, honey, garlic and so on, it cooks really well on the bbq and some veg skewers I think, poached eggs for breakfast when sleeping beauty gets up and no idea for lunch yet, will see what the deli has.

We have a few birthdays this month, not too many, but August and especially September we are inundated with birthdays and anniversaries, so today I`m going to get my list and see what cards and gifts I need to get, I like to be organised, couple of special ones in there too this year.

Second cup of tea for me, sun is shining and it is going to warm up a little more, it`s not going to be hot-hot, but nice enough, might even get to sit out a little.

Have a lovely Friday.......

Robbie, sometimes the hygienist appointments are rough when they get right into your gums, yes, they can be tender for a time, hope it`s eased now.
It is feeling better than Monday, but gums are still swollen in some areas.

Glad the massage was good, I wish I liked them, yes, I`m odd, but not fond of them, I don`t mind a neck and shoulder massage, but that`s about it. However most of my friends love them and enjoy a spa day....I prefer the lunch that`s included usually lol
One of my sisters is like that too. She is not fond of Massage therapy. It has really been a life saver for me. I do so much better with my joints and back after a massage

I have a wonderful massage therapist too. I go once a month which is a big help with my fibro/arthritis problems. I always feel wonderful after a massage. You are right! A good massage therapist IS worth her weight in gold. A massage is the only thing that seems to help me with my fibro/arthritis. If I was rich, I would go to her once a week, but wishful thinking.
So glad to hear you have a good therapist too Ruth.

That is awful, Robo. I have never had sore gums after a teeth cleaning. What was wrong with that dental tech?
Not sure what was going on with this hygienist she is usually really good.

I just wrapped my daughter's birthday present. It took me 3 months to make working on it when I could. It's a beige afghan that she hinted for a while ago. It was fun to do and I learned a new stitch called the star stitch, which is now my favorite:) I also finished the baby girl quilt - well, just need to hand sew the edging down:) Now I'm out of projects for others. I'm working on a summer top for me, I just hope I can get it done before fall, LOL.
I bet your daughter will be happy to receive her special gift from you for her birthday.

sorry hygienist was so rough! But a massage after was just the thing to calm nerves. I have a massage appointment coming up. She’s great. She does this thing before massage where I sit on the table, and she’s standing behind me and guides me thru some gentle moves that helps realign my spine. First time I thought it didn’t do anything. But when I got home and had to go upstairs I was stunned, no pain!
It is so wonderful when you can leave an appointment feeling much better then when you walked in. So glad to hear you have a good therapist too.

Now I always check my paid medicines before I leave the counter.
Mac sorry to hear of your issue at the Pharmacy. Good catch on the medication error.

Beautiful creature who is so very gentle.

Enjoyed our salmon, made an apple pie, that is my contribution to July 4th celebrations so we`ll have that later when I make some tea, going to call my mum first, she eats later too so always give her a chance to finish.
Yes, deer are pretty and gentle to behold. Your dinner sounded yummy.

Unlimited white sangrias at hoop Dee doo softened the edges afterwards of MK last evening. Be kind I was wilting & disbelief from tron lol
I have heard some good things about the Hoop Dee Doo dinner and show.

Hi Robbie :wave2:
Good morning Carole

I loathe fireworks with a passion, especially seeing folks who don`t understand just how much damage a small firework can do. We don`t have pets, but so many folks talk about how upset their pets get and of course people too.

We have been bombarded every night for past few nights with big fireworks. Last night it was continuous until about 10:30 pm. These were not the little firecrackers these were the massive rockets shooting off professional explosions of color in the sky.

I do cringe thinking about the possible injuries that could happen with these displays. Every 4th when I was still working our ER would get numerous trauma/burn injuries from folks setting off these rockets.

Up early this morning. It is already raining here this morning. We had a storm front come through that lasted about a half hour. Nad left up with showers. It is really humid here and the high temperature today is supposed to be in upper 80’s.

I have had a little coffee already this morning.

I’am watching little J for a half day today. So I need to get movin out the door.

Have a wonderful Friday everyone doing whatever makes you happy.

:wave2: I tried to complete a post yesterday - but was busy all day with tasks hitting my desk. We are in a ramp up phase again, so I will be busier again. And it's Friday :cheer2: even though it's been a short week -it sure felt long!!!!

Quiet night last night. I didn't have much energy to do much. Whipped up some dinner, then sat outside with a book soaking up all the sunshine and heat. We are FINALLY getting some heat!!!

UGH...just went to take a sip of my tea...and it's a coffee :furious: and not my steeped tea from Tim's. Then Tim Horton's are wondering why people are not coming there. With their price hikes and cr@ppy service like this....people are either not going through the drive thru or just not going at all anymore. Good thing I have some tea bags here and my homemade creamer I love...so I could enjoy an extra cup in the morning this week. I guess it's only a one mug day today.

I think grilled burgers are on the menu for tonight. I'll have to stop and pick up some buns on the way home from work. Hopefully if the wind is down - we can maybe even eat outside!!!!

Our stone crops are in bad shape. No peaches this summer.
:sad2: So I can expect to pay a high price for peaches even when they are in season then this year. I rarely buy them if they are off season. I find they don't ripen and just shrivel up or get extremely mushy. My favorite are the white peaches
Then up the coast a little to the fish man we like, and we got a whopper of a salmon, all gutted and filleted as we like, cut it into portions back home and put most in the freezer with two large pieces for tonight.
You are very fortunate to live where you can get such fresh fish! We are land locked - so not fortunate and pay extra for subpar quality anything.
Happy 4th to all no matter how u spend it! ‘Merica
Happy 4th to you as well. Loved the pictures!!! I hope you had a great day!

I have gotten to the point - I will buy what I think I will like - and take it home to try on - then return. I hate using store dressing rooms. And I buy a good portion online anyways - as my body is hard to fit. So I know where I can find clothes when I need new ones.
YUM!!!!!
I’am watching little J for a half day today. So I need to get movin out the door.
Have fun with little J! I am sure with your working career you have some great stories to tell.

Well, I should run and get some things done. I do need to shuffle and fax off a few papers today.

Have a great day everyone!!!

Happy Friday. Nothing much going on here. I ran a couple of errands and scheduled a haircut for a couple of weeks from today. I need to get a few things from Walmart, but don’t want to go back out into the heat.

Local township had fireworks:
View attachment 873745

Was so glad we could walk to where we had a great spot to see them. Buggy and oh so humid even at 9 when they started it.
Nice! We skipped the fireworks this year. Too hot and crowded.

I think some names are best left behind, but there are some beautiful names around to choose from. The males on my dads side were all called George, I didn`t plan to give Kyle that name even as a middle name, but I know several relatives, not my dad actually all suggested Kyle got that as a name or middle name, again, no. Dh strongly advocated for Lee as a middle name. It’s his middle name, was his father’s middle name, and oddly enough, my mother’s middle name. I think the middle name I chose for B suits her much better. It actually used to be a middle name for men in the family, but I think it works better for a female now.

I love fireworks when they are big, professional displays like at the theme parks or baseball games. I hate the kind that are sold to average citizens. The ones my neighbors had last night were really loud. Caspian went and hid somewhere.

I do cringe thinking about the possible injuries that could happen with these displays. Every 4th when I was still working our ER would get numerous trauma/burn injuries from folks setting off these rockets.
I just read that someone in South Carolina died after putting one on his head and igniting it. So sad and senseless.

We are FINALLY getting some heat!!!
I wish I could send you some of ours. This is what I am dealing with right now.

I generally hate going back to the store to make returns. I had a much better experience with my local store today.

I think I will watch some mindless TV and do some stitching. But first, a snack.

Hope the gums are better by now Robbie, they can be so tender, I hate getting a cleaning from our hygenist, feels as though she`s digging for gold at times!! The dentists isn`t supposed to do it, but he does to save me going to her.

It can be like downtown Beirut in the UK with fireworks, especially Guy Fawkes night and the weeks leading up to it, then New Years too and yes, they can be like mortar bombs going off. It`s not so bad where we live, we aren`t too disturbed but every year, yup, so many injuries by people who don`t have a clue. I do feel like the Grinch but folks don`t realise just how powerful even a small amount of explosive can be.

Hope you had fun with the little guy again and have a lovely weekend.

Bleurgh.....expecting tea and drinking coffee!!!

Nothing nicer than sitting in the sun with a book, it is one of life`s little pleasures indeed.

A couple of the stores I`ll buy from have some decent changing rooms, but in general I prefer to order a batch of stuff online and yes, try them on in my own home, I know my mirrors are honest lol.....but it`s so easy to do returns now, we have so many places we can take parcels to, we don`t even need to take them back to the store anymore, our local petrol station and small convenience store now take parcel returns for most places.

The UK does have some amazing fresh fish, especially from Scotland, but even locally we have plenty of choice. I can see why you enjoy fishing as a hobby, something I`ve never done.

Hope you enjoyed your burgers, and yes, sitting outside eating is always nice. Kyle is coming for the Grand Prix tomorrow and is staying for dinner, and yup he`s asked for mum`s homemade burgers for dinner! Ask and ye shall receive!! I have some steaks I`ll grind down tomorrow for them, they like a bun, I don`t, just the burger on the plate with the sides.

Have a lovely weekend Pumpkin.

At least we won’t be having temperatures of 98 today…

I’m looking at the bright side of this.
lol

There`s always a bright side mac!!! I will swap you weathers if you like.......but you`d soon swap back!!!

I generally hate going back to the store to make returns. I had a much better experience with my local store today.

I think I will watch some mindless TV and do some stitching. But first, a snack.

So many names are suitable for either male or female now which is nice and some older names are very popular too. My maiden name is a popular first name for a girl and one of my friends from way back gave her daughter that as a middle name, weirdly her mother hated it and thought it was a boys name. It`s really not. I don`t have a middle name and always wanted one, Tom has one and hates it....lol.....

Fireworks are pretty to look at, but yes, so many injuries and usually a lack of consideration for others when some folks set them off. And yes, anyone can buy these huge mortar type and they are for sale everywhere including small stores to grocery stores.

Snack and stitching sounds a very nice way to pass some time!! And goodness, yes, that is hot enough to stay indoors!!

Ended up going out for a few drinks with friends last night, it`s always nice to have a surprise get together, just six of us, and it was a nice evening, wind had dropped so we did get to sit outside for a time, until three smokers appeared, so back inside then as their outside area is quite small so you can`t avoid the smell, nice evening though and home for around 10.30ish.

We are getting rain this morning, most of the afternoon and maybe tonight too. Welcome to the UK summer. We might get some sunshine around 9pm tonight, around the time the sun will set......no sitting in the garden today!

Planning a day at home today, after breakfast we`ll do some boring housework, we each have our things we do and things we don`t like to do, Tom won`t do windows as he can`t get them smear free, I don`t touch the bins or rubbish, everything else we just split between us. he does all the heavy moving when we move the furniture to clean behind them so I don`t complain about anything.

Saturday morning, so bacon with either french toast, poached eggs or pancakes, will decide later, making a spicy chicken quesadilla for lunch, a request from Tom so might need to pop out and buy some sour cream, think that`s the only thing I`m missing, dinner will be a hot chicken curry and coconut rice.

Plan to watch the new Beverly Hills Cop movie tonight with a nice bottle of wine, heard mixed reviews on it, can`t be worse than the 3rd movie, but we did like the first two.

Rain is just starting, so time for another cup of tea, wake sleeping beauty up later in time for breakfast, he does like a sleep in, quite right too!!

Happy Saturday and weekend :-)

Welcome home @keishashadow glad you had such a wonderful trip!

Happy Saturday!! Baking chocolate cake today with an expresso mascarpone ganache icing. Watching F1 qualifying right now. House stuff later.
Getting hurricane prep started. Check water stockpile, start generator, trim trees and bushes.
Wet week forcast for FL as well.

Anyone here in the boards take thyroid medicine?

I have been taking it for years and at the point have moved up to higher med level.

Usually feel dazed and icky until it mellows out.

Looks like another hot day is ahead in my area.

What is everyone planing to do today?

Hope you`re doing ok mac. Once you`re used to the meds, you should be fine, don`t wander too far....sit and pet the kitties all afternoon since it`s so hot.

It looks like winter here right now! Honestly, rain, grey skies and although it`s not cold, it`s not very warm, but still had a nice day, got all our housework done we wanted to do, nice breakfast and lunch and about to enjoy a very spicy Thai chicken curry with coconut rice and some store bought potstickers as a side. Then a movie.

But, we did book our flights for an April/May trip next year, I think we might be too early for Epic Universe, but we planned to do that on the next trip anyway, but excited we have that set of flights booked now!!

After dinner tonight, new Beverly Hills Cop movie, hope it doesn`t disappoint.

Curry and wine time 🥂

Another really hot day today. I don’t have anything planned to do except maybe wash the blouses I bought on Thursday and Friday.

I don`t have a middle name and always wanted one,
I have only met a few people without middle names. Neither my sister nor I have middle names. Mom said our names were long enough and we didn’t need another. (My first name is 5 letters and my maiden name is 10.) My brother has a middle name, but that’s because he shares his name with our father.

Anyone here in the boards take thyroid medicine?
I do for hypothyroidism.

That cake sounds incredible. Good luck with the prep. Hurricanes are one thing I certainly don’t miss about living in Florida.

Have they announced an opening date yet? I am tentatively thinking about a trip in January 2026. Dh is upset that he hasn't been back to Universal since my 50th birthday. I checked the academic calendar and he doesn’t have to be back from winter break until January 12 that year.

It`s funny how those without a middle name want one at times. I think now I`m happy not to have one.

They haven`t officially released the actual date yet, but it will be earlier than they originally stated by all reports. I`m not sure I`d really want to go if it was open in May, heck I still think come come next September it`ll still be heaving. Definitely want to stay at Grand Helios then for a few nights.

Sounds a nice time to visit for you and your husband, yes that is a long time to go between trips for him.

New Beverly Hills Cop movie was decent, not a very strong plot, but watchable and we did enjoy it, followed it with a blast of Rush Hour which is a very funny movie.

Cloudy with a little sunshine this morning, no plans to go out this morning, going to bake a load of shortbread for Kyle to take into work tomorrow, they do like it. We have Kyle for the afternoon to watch the Grand Prix and stay for dinner. Not our favourite GP but we`ll watch it, hope it`s decent. And there`s a chance of thunder and lightning this afternoon too.

Will make some chocolate ice cream too for him, if I have time I`ll whip up a flourless chocolate cake too, although he did tell me not to....oops!

Bacon and French Toast this morning and a lot of tea!!!

Happy Sunday :sunny:

Good Sunday all. Coming back to RL always seems a bit of a slog after a trip. This time the house looked in decent shape, except two of my DS had a pool party on 4th of July. We are still finding things out of place & lots of “sticky spots”. Least they gave picking up a bit of a whirl. :rolleyes1

Last two pics of trip, I promise Only rain of trip started around 5:30 pm @ Epcot and chased all but the stalwarts away. Skies cleared before 7 pm, we had hunkered down with a light dinner as still stuffed after Boma brakfast. Nice, actually, as wait times dropped. Crowds did stream back in before FW though.

Epcot does an epic add on to regular nightly display only on 4th…the sort the shock wave (? Carole would know what it really is called) literally pierces your body and you feel it in your heart. It’s wild, never experienced anything like it elsewhere.

Only issue, no breeze to be found. The haze from all the FW obscured the low “ground/lake” works.

There’s a contingent of people whose goal is to be on the monorail as the grand finale occurs, this group won
IMG_5598.jpeg
Neither B nor her cousin inherited the name either. I gave B and old, obscure family name as her middle name.
The perfect place for one
I am dreading tonight when the neighbors start playing with fireworks.
Seriously! My dog is a wreck despite his thunder vest and his happy gummies.

Last night solid noise from 5 pm to after midnight, seemingly in a perimeter around our neighborhood. Enough already
we actually have a double barrelled surname, but only use the middle one, everyone knows us by that middle surname and some folks think that`s weird, fair enough.
Sounds fancy to me :) The trend of people hyphenating spouse surnames for the kids seems to have waned here.
We have a few birthdays this month
I’ve the two eldest sons. One on Thursday. He’s yet to give me a BD wish list. I’m not even going to guess this year and will wait him out. Why they refuse a GC or cash is truly beyond me
One of my sisters is like that too. She is not fond of Massage therapy. It has really been a life saver for me. I do so much better with my joints and back after a massage
With my back issues only permitted to have a PT perform, even then they can only do deep tissue sort. Never have been able to go to a chiropractor for same reason. So many I know swear by them. When things act up, have wound up doing traction in PT sessions.

I forget, when is your surgery?
Not sure what was going on with this hygienist she is usually really good.
My dentist now has two, new one his daughter who decided she didn’t like nursing field. She is gentle, the original one goes so fast, teeth never really seem to have that **** n span feeling.

When my dentist has filled in due to one of them not being in the office, I just cringe. Mouth always winds up bloody and swollen afterwards he goes way down in the gum line. Have one scheduled 3rd week of this month, I don’t wanna go
I have heard some good things about the Hoop Dee Doo dinner and show
It’s really nice, key is to book the 1st day as tables assigned first come, first served.
and it's a coffee
So, you don’t like coffee eh? JK. I thot their coffee in the shops pretty good. None closer than 2 hours from us. The Kcups are decidedly lacking IMO.
Dh strongly advocated for Lee as a middle name
Haha that’s one of those family names in DH’ family too. I made the joke once they should switch it up & use Sherman. Talk about a lead balloon. Other than the mr, they all collectively still hold fast to that grudge.
I just read that someone in South Carolina died after putting one on his head and igniting it. So sad and senseless.
Agree. it more so boggles my mind that that sort of irresponsible actions could easily injure innocents around him.

Plan to watch the new Beverly Hills Cop movie tonight
What, no minions? Haven’t heard anything about the new one.
Anyone here in the boards take thyroid medicine?
Family members do, most detest the side effects as to nausea they’ve been told to “get used to”. You’d think they’d be able to mitigate that.
Welcome back home keisha!

How much longer to you start planning another trip?
You know me well. Have a couple on the books.

Mr’s BD present to me is a trip to DL end of August. Whole different animal than WDW. I’m preparing the plan of attack. Have air booked, need to figure out what hotel. Going to stay somewhere across the street for the first time vs onsite.

Let’s just say I’m in process of “walking” next July’s DVC trip @ BWV. It’s the system with which I’m presented if we want to secure a room at our more popular resorts at the 11 month window.
Getting hurricane prep started. Check water stockpile, start generator, trim trees and bushes.
Sounds Iike what we do for winter here, only in reverse.
we did book our flights for an April/May trip next year,
Woohoo!
Have they announced an opening date yet?
I was looking at hotel rates for June/July @ the epic “values”. Noticed a big spike that time frame. Was nearly double. Probably will skip doing a weekend there as I’d like to see the dust settle and them work out the kinks.
It`s funny how those without a middle name want one at times
Never really gave using one much thought until issues cropped up re middle name when traveling.

On my TSA precheck don’t have mine listed. The mr does. I left it off a booking on Spirit a few years ago and TSA didn’t recognize him. He had to go thru the regular line. An issue as lines were long, did make the flight

Discovered over 20 years ago he and DS apparently both had first and last name of an individual on no fly list. Ummmm? They repeatedly got hauled off to “the room” for extra processing. Was told after a few years of this to always list their middle names on bookings and it did mostly cease.

I’m all for strict security when flying, good to see safeguards in place. At least didn’t they need to apply for redress.
