Alright I was in my room when a person came in and asked if my snowman magic was for trade. I said its not for trade and he said, ' I'll give you flying carpet magic for it. ' I then said, ' Flying carpet magic isn't available yet, and if it was lets see you do it. ' After that he just stood there not answering anything, acting like he was afk....

Edit: I just boot him...It was 5 minutes he was sitting there O_o

so how did you get scammed? :confused3

when i hear that someone was "scammed" I don't think of "oh, hey nice try dude but you can't scam me", I think of "wow i hit the accept button and made a trade that the other guy tricked me into believing was fair" i don't feel you have been scammed at all.. Mods.. just a request but we have a I'm banned sticky, why not have a I was scammed sticky? I think it would clear up the boards a lot

Well I dont know the word for what that person did to me...so I just used scammed :thumbsup2 Lol..

She used the wrong terminology...oh my...

She changed the title of thread - better ? ;)

EDIT: Sometimes people say one thing, but mean another...

Keep posting!

Lots of kids do not know, thanks to not being around the DIS, and would have been scammed.

My heart breaks for the kids who get scammed.
I tell my 9yo to come get me if he wants to tradewith someone. But last night he was so excited that someone offered him a Sparrow costume (He thinks he is Jack Sparrow. LOL). I walked past the computer and I saw he was very excited AND putting up his Mission Sapce Suit for trade. He told me a boy just offered him a Sparrow suit TOMORROW, if he trades him his Mission Space suit today!
Arg!
My naive little pirate pirate: . I had to explain the whole concept of why some people lie until the wee hours last night.

Kids should not do trades without their parents being there (IMO only). This is why MickeysMusic is not allowed to trade without showing me -- we are lucky to be able to sit next to each other while each on a computer, so I get to see everything that is going on. I think after she got scammed way back in the beginning (for letting someone "borrow" her crown), she has learned to not be as trusting when it comes to trading. :thumbsup2

Sorry for the confusion. I caught my son before he managed to trade his costume. I keep a very close eye my boys when they are online. They are only allowed on the internet when myself or my husband are in the room. And if I hear the keys on the keyboard tapping away, I am right there with them. (Tight leash I know, don't flame me, but we prefer to be extra cautious)
I did not think we could report him because we did not lose anything.

Awhile back, I had someone pull the "I'll trade you magic carpet magic for lots of buyable furniture" schtick while I was on a new mule account and still had my guest title instead of a real title. I said "Well, that's not out yet." "I have a special preview of it! I was really lucky!" Just to make it clear as anything for staff records, I said "So let me make sure I understand. You say you have magic carpet magic and will trade it for a lot of buy able items?" "Yes." I closed out the trade window, clicked report before she disappeared, explained what happened, and about five minutes later got a message from staff thanking me for reporting it and helping to keep VMK safe; said something like "the situation has been handled."

Moral? Even if you don't actually get scammed, if someone tries to scam you or you see someone trying to scam someone else, report it! You could save a newbie or a child much grief by just taking a minute or two of your time. :wizard:
