I heard a knock , I looked and I could see they were people of a certain religion. I didn't open the door, I see them walking towards my car , I thought they are going to leave something on the windshield? No....what do you think they do? Go around the house , come up the back deck and knock on the sliding door!!
I am libid by then but I opened the door, I asked them if they had a permit for soliciting and if I could see it, they said no. I had the phone in my hand and told them they are trespassing and I have a german sheppard in the backyard, if they don't leave I will call the police and they are responsible for anything that happens. That is nerve!!!! When the heck do they understand no means no???? and you do not go on people's properties without an invitation!!!

My goodness, are we a little on edge today? LOL
I'm not trying to mean or anything, but don't you think a "no thanks, I'm not interested" could have been a good start instead of threatning to call the police and sick your dog on them?
Just out of curiosity, is your property posted?

So, if a new neighbor moved in you'd be just as mad if they came on your property to say hello because they weren't invited?
Golly.....

mskanga, are you having a bad couple of days? I don't think I've seen you post anything that isn't a complaint of some sort.

I can't believe they came to your back door after not getting an answer in the front! Very weird. Perhaps they were thieves disguised as religious people .

UH, that is a whole different story with a neighbor!

These "Religious" Types are a pain in the BUTT! Why do they feel the need to "Peddle" their "Religion" anyways!

I would have done the same thing! Actually I would have let the dog out first and then asked questions later!LOL

Hello??? They knocked on my front door and because I didn't answer they came around the house and knocked on the sliding door too! Yes I do have posted , no soliciting and no trespassing signs. And as far as meeting new neighbors, I have never had anyone come knocking on the door just to introduce themselves but if that was the case I don't think the neighbors would come around the house if I didn't answer the front door.
And the dog IS in the backyard , what if the dog had attacked any of them? I would be responsible then?

I don't think its that unusual to try both doors. I've had people stop by that didn't think I was home because if they knock on my front door and I'm in the kitchen I can't hear it, but if you go around to the back door and I can.

I would be really annoyed too.

I wouldn't be too happy if someone walked around to my sliding patio door. Friends are one thing, soliciters are another.

well, when I moved into my neighborhood two of my neighbors came over to introduce themselves. I didn't know who they were or if they were there to "peddle" their religion. I thought it was a very nice gesture.

Sure sometimes those who come around to talk with people about religion can be a nuisance to some, but I have always found that if you just politely say you are not interested than they thank you and move on. I do not begrudge them for what they are doing. If they believe they are doing Gods work, then I support them in their endevors because that is NOT an easy thing to do!

Sorry it bothered you.....

But, for people just wandering around the neighborhood selling religion, that is very weird. These people have no right nor cause to go around to the back of her house to knock on the back door. If they had done that me, I wouldn't have answered the door, I would have called the police.

It's one thing to go to a front door but walking around the house to a back door is going to far. I'd have told them they had 10 seconds to get off my property. I have called the police once to have a car towed. They seemed to think it was ok to park in my yard while they walked door to door. They came back while the police officer was waiting for the tow truck. The officer ended up asking me if they could remove their car. I ended up letting them remove it with a promise to never step foot on my property again. The lady across the street came out clapping when she saw the police there. :p

The OP stated they were from a certain religion but in this day and age how can you look at a person and know if they are harmless? Several years ago about 4 miles from my parents house a lady that was home alone during the day was raped, duct taped and put into a closet. The guy then stole several items from the house. Her husband ended up telling the neighbors and friends that the guy was dressed in a suit and drove a nice car and she only answered the door thinking he was a salesman since he had a briefcase in his hand. But once she opened the door he forced his way inside.

Nuke, I was wondering the same thing.

Cinders an easy solution is, if you don't know who they are, then don't answer the door. It works wonders.

well, if she knew they were from a certain religious group (are these the same people as the free lunch people) she could still have not answered the door.
I'm sorry, I guess I just don't understand. I guess I am just more tolerant of things and worry about the more important things in life than about people knocking on my door sharing their religion. Each to their own.

Again, sorry it bothered you so much.......

I don't like unsolicited religious offers, unsolicted offers of
any kind. I'm a staunch Kerry supporter and when the DNC
knocked on my door the other day, I was not happy. This
is an invasion of my private domain and both DH and I are
very touchy about it. Don't try to sell me windows, promote
the environment, get my vote, get a donation unless you have
an appointment. I have no choice but to have a door on my
house, it's how I get in and out. I don't answer my door because
I know it's you. People with few or no boundaries irk me.

Being or not from the same religion group as the neighbor has nothing to do with anything here. I have no respect for people who overlook at my no soliciting and no trespassing signs and insist on doing what they want to do. I guess if they did that to you and your dog who is in the backyard attacked one of them and then they held you responsible for it, you would have been happy. I wouldn't, nobody invited them and this is my property.

Some people selling their religion carry pamlets, maybe that is how she could tell they were religious.

I also don't answer my door to people I don't know, especially if my DH is not home. you never know .......

I do think it is rude for a person you do not know to go to the back door and knock. I would also be livid! The OP had a right to be mad.
