It's driving me insane! I've put up with this every day for a YEAR! Our team leader is fed up with it. Our boss refuses to say anything to her. Our director of operations won't say anything to her. We're all to the point of making snide comments..."Who do you think you are, Madonna?" (I didn't come up with that)...because she just won't stop.:headache:

I wonder if I'd get fired if I sign her up for American Idol.

Is there a smilie that shows one ripping out the other's vocal chords?

We used to have a student employee who would hum all the time until we told her she reminded us of the kid in About A Boy. :teeth:

She was a music major, though, and would come to work right after her singing class so we cut her some slack. It helped that she was just an adorable person and had a good voice. :teeth:

I'm so sorry--I know how annoying it can be. I can't believe she didn't get the point after the Madonna comment. Can't someone just tell her the singing is distracting?

What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander heheheh...if she can disrupt the workplace, then maybe her officemates(united in pain  and action) should do something similar in a small way as well. Not enough to get anybody in trouble with HR, but certainly enough to get your pain across to the offender.
Tit for tat, says I!

agnes!
PS - Has anybody told her how offensive her constant noise is? Or is she just truly terrifyingly clueless?

I think she doesn't care. Someone else (not the boss or Director of Ops) once asked her to stop and she said, "Why should I? I enjoy it."

I'll make a deal--I'll go there & shut yours up if you come here & shut up mine! I like her, but her singing voice is terrible. But she's leaving next week, so my torture is almost over.

Oh man! In that case, my reaction would be "It's ON now!"

Just a few suggestions:

-Wrap everything in her cubicle in aluminum foil (and I mean *everything*... mouse, keyboard, monitor, pens, etc.)

-Fill her cubicle with styrofoam peanuts.

-Duct tape all her cabinets and drawers shut.

-If you're pressed for time and want a subtle attack, pop the keys off her keyboard and rearrange them.

Yikes! What a jerk. Sorry you have to put up with it. Can you turn on your radio or "tune" your computer to DIS Radio? at least then you would be listening to Disney stuff...
Btw, the proper response to "Well, I enjoy it" should be "Well, NO ONE ELSE DOES."

Good luck,
agnes!

I used to have a hummer and pencil thumper in the next cube. I wanted to go over and slap the tar out of her , but she finally left!!!! Oh happy day!!!!

I say sing along loudly and off key and change the words once in awhile.
It'll stop being fun for her. pirate:

I just wanted to make sure that you're not my co-worker & talking about me. :teeth:

I have a habit of singing & humming - and I'm not good.

A coworker did me the favor of telling me that I was driving her crazy - I had no idea. Now I concentrate on not torturing others with my voice.

I think you & your coworkers would be doing her a favor (and you, too) if you would let her know that her singing is really disruptive to those working around her.

try this, I find it to be most effective ;)

Hmm...well, I have no idea how her songs go...she listens to hip-hop and I really dislike that. But maybe I could start singing some Cure songs...One Hundred Years is a nice angry one...it might shut her up if I suddenly scream out "It doesn't matter if we ALL die!" :p

My temper got the best of me one day at one of my jobs and I told someone that if they didn't shut up, I would punch them...I know its mean and I did get in trouble but I guess not that much trouble because I was promoted to the head of the department soon after!!! :) Maybe cause I do not take anyone's crap???

Please don't let this story make you hate me...just don't annoy me!!! :)

I would just keep telling her that this is a place of business and not a rock concert. It doesn't matter if you enjoy it you are driving everyone else nuts!

Sorry, coworker noise rarely bothers me. I hated listening to people's personal phone calls though.

Bring in a tape of the old Bluegrass music.
This may involve you and your co-workers enduring a little suffering but it would probably shut her up.

My boss used to whistle and one of our vp's used to whistle. I was in between their offices. Whistling grates on my nerves. One day when my boss started whistling I gave him 'the look' and said 'there is no whistling after 2pm'. The next time 'there is no whistling on Fri (or whatever day it was)'. I also asked him if he was going that in 'parts'. And if so could he leave my part out.

Neither whistle around me anymore. :teeth:

SC Minnie, you went right where I was headed! :rotfl: Having to listen to someone else whistling is absolutely mind-numbing! OP, be glad your coworker is ONLY singing! :rolleyes1
