Somebody is going to PAY

I don't remember what mission it was off the top of my head, but yes, this was if memory serves the oldest shuttle.

SMMOG Jtb- I don't see where anyone was jumping on Rajah. I see people trying to soothe and calm her -out of concern.

Perhaps you should take your own advice and let those who posted they think it's an accident be

Guys, don't jump on JTBs back for coming to the defense of a friend, either, please?

This is exactly what my DH thinks. No one knew EXACTLY how long these aircraft could maintain its integrety. 19 missions might have been the most that it should have flown. :(

Then again, the loss of the tiles upon take off and the fact that Columbia was told to continue the flight could have been an error that might be proven fatal. :(

Rajah... hugs. It is very alarming and I agree there are somethings about this situation that make you take pause. At this point though, there is no clear indications it was terrorism. Quite the contrary - it really appears to be a tragic accident. Only time will truly tell.

Usually if terrorists conduct an action - they make sure you are not unclear as to the intent and purpose of what just happened.

We are all in a state of sadness and shock at the news. Let's support each other and display the better part of humanity.

I agree with those who say it seems to be a horrible accident. But I have to admit, I thought terrorism at first since they had made such a big deal about the Isreali astronout.

I have been watching the news since before they knew (or announced) the problem since the local stations always cover the landings.

They have said it was the 28th mission for the Columbia and that it was getting close to retirement time for the shuttle. I understand that space travel is dangerous work, but I just can't see how this could happen without any indication that something was wrong before hand.

And I also couldn't stop thinking about the irony of the tragedy happening over Palestine TX. Guess that was one of the reasons I thought Terrorism...just seemed to symobolic.

Tami, I remembered. That along with knowing you are alot smarter than I am, I won't say you are off your rocker. :) From what they are publicly saying, it's all but impossible for something like that to happen. But they aren't saying it's totally impossible.
I am pretty sure no one intended to jump on your back, even if it may have looked that way to some. I'm glad you don't think so either. :)

Let's all give each other a break. This is very upsetting to all of us.

You took the words out of my mouth Rajah.:mad:

I didn't know you worked for NASA. I'd say you are privy to a lot more info than any of us are. {{hugs}}

Coincidence or terrorism, it's all so sad.:(

I am really sick over this. I had received an e-mail yesterday from our chief Rabbi inviting me and others to go out to Ellington Field tomorrow afternoon to welcome back the first Israeli astronaut. The Israeli consulate and others were planning to have a nice homecoming for him and I was planning to take the kids.

i know everyone is upset. i am too. :(

perhaps it isn't the best idea for an employee of nasa to post on a public bulletin board that she thinks it is terrorism? :(

This is another time when one wishes they had a magic wand and make everything okay again, or that we are waking up from a horrible nightmare.

(((HUGS))) to Rajah and JTB and to all who posted on this thread. (((HUGS))) to all of us. Let's not bicker please.

Good thought C2. It's an unbelievable tragedy. My condolences to the families.

Just an FYI, in the past, Rajah has made it clear she is not employed by NASA. I know I have joked with her in the past on that and she is always remindful that she is not employed by NASA.

Again, Tammi, a big {hug} for you, whatever the reason for today's disaster, you are close to the NASA family.

Amen!

i apologize then, dan. i guess i got confused by this:

She works at NASA, you know. I don't think that ANYONE else can say that.

Oh no ,rajah ,please dont think that, the israeli on board was a beautiful young vibrant woman ,working towards a better mankind ,her "mission" was that of "GOODNESS and KINDNESS" as it was for all of them ,to better our world and make it safer ,lets hope they died with that thought not terrorism, let that not be our thoughts, though hard it is!Pray for peace and ALL of their families ,and pray hard little Rajah,it wasnt terrorists, peace be with you!!!

Just another piece of info that I heard on the news. This was Columbia's 28th mission. It was the oldest shuttle in the fleet having first flown in 1981. The shuttles are designed to have a lifetime of 100 missions. Based on that, it was nowhere near time to retire Columbia.

A frightening piece of information just presented. Columbia's next mission was in November where one of the astronauts was to be the next teacher in space!!!

{{{hugs}}} Rajah. I know you live in Texas, regardless of where you work, I understand your confusion and the fact that you are suspicious of terrorism. I think in this case it is a terrible accident, but I don't think you are wrong for posting your fears.

The Israeli on board was a man.

I think JTB's post and then her subsequent agreement could definitely lead one to believe that she does, in fact, work there.

If she doesn't work there then perhaps, to eliminate confusion, she should edit her agreement with JTB's post to something that more accurately reflects her employment status with NASA while indicating the fact that she feels close to them.
