We visited friends in Grand Rapids, MI this Saturday and Sunday. We stayed at a hotel Sat. evening because they have a small son (19 months) and we have 3 kids--I know people always say "stay with us", but it's kind of an imposition when you are a family of 5.
The hotel we've stayed at before was full so I booked a Best Western with a really cool looking pool. We got to the hotel about 10PM which gave us an hour. We all went down to the pool, which was pretty full but still had room. The kids played in the pool and DH and I sat on the edge of the hot tub (we have one at home but don't keep it THAT hot). After a while DH got into the pool with the kids and I sat on the side.
There were two kids in the hot tub--looked about 15,16 at the most. A boy and a girl. She was practically in his lap. DH looked at them, and then turned to me real embarrassed and said that the boy had his hand down her top. If so, she didn't seem to have a problem with it.
Well since someone else is in the hot tub they go into the pool. They are in the pool up to about neck level with her in front of him, her back to his front--or her front to his front sometimes. I also see that he has his whole family there, as his little brother keeps talking to them. I'm guessing he brought the GF along for a family trip, or it's two families traveling together with a little Romeo and Juliet thing going on. There were a couple of obnoxious families there who probably went with these two.
Now don't get me wrong, he wasn't taking advantage of a fair maiden or anything, she was an active participant. At one point he started to back through the pool and she had her legs wrapped around his waist so he kind of dragged her along. As the pool was getting ready to close he was sitting on the side, and she was laying in the pool floating on her back, anchored by his feet, with her legs stretched out and out of the pool and her feet resting on his chest! (I hope you can picture this).
Well at that point a mom in the adjacent area got up and came over to them. I thought, good, someone is going to either tell this boy to stop disrespecting this girl by mauling her in public, or tell the girl to get her trampy rear end up to the room.
NO--Mom goes over to the boy, says "SMILE!" and takes a picture of him with the girl's feet resting on his chest! Then they make some small talk and she leaves.
Way to parent!
Now before I get flames that kids have to grow up sometimes, etc., this was in front of many other swimmers and they weren't all related to this couple. My younger ones ignored it but the 12 year old saw most of it. She has been told that if a boy tries to disrespect her like that in public she is to kick him a good one. I would like to think most moms would say "I know you're attached to Susie, but you're going a little overboard on the public display, so can you cool it a little?" I don't know if I was more disturbed by the public groping or the mom taking a picture!
