Folks, in my haste to get the initial post up for everyone to read, I left out something very, very important. I mentioned how upset Cathy and I were about this, but I left out two very important people who have poured an enormous amount of love and effort into DISCon, who are feeling very hurt that it did not come off the way we planned.
First is Bob Varley (aka Wilderness). Bob arranged for all the prizes, coordinated certain aspects of the event and worked to support Cathy in the planning process. He has worked with Cathy very hard over the last several months, and can be credited with arranging the current schedule for DISCon II. He insisted that I make no announcement until he could work on a good contingency plan. He has done an awesome job, especially in negotiating the great price we got for the Murder Mystery dinner.
Last, but never least, is Marsha (aka MackeyMouse), who was the original inspiration for all things DISCon. Let me be very clear here....there would never have been any talk of DISCon without her. She is the one that brought the concept to me, and debated it's finer points until I agreed (it was the italian half that did that, I'm sure of it now). Marsha has been tireless in helping with this, and never once has asked for any praise, or any special considerations. Despite my protests, she insisted on paying her own way to DISCon (both last year and this year). She is one of the great examples of the quality of people who come to this site, and make it everything it is. Beyond her great work on this, she is a wonderful friend and one of the kindest people you will ever meet. I only hope that you all have the opportunity to get to know her as I have.
