Some thoughts on planning Christmas at BWV

This will be our first Christmas at our "home-away-from-home" ... BWV... let alone our first Christmas not at home ... EVER!! We are a family of 3 ... DH, DD who will be 16 in November and me.

Was able to get a 1-BDR Standard View at the 8-month mark, booked all our ADRs at the times and places we wanted at 180 days out ... including CP at Tutto for lunch.

Decided to press my luck this morning, even though I was pass the 90-day mark, for an IllumiNations or Wishes cruise for Christmas Day. Was able to get the Wishes cruise ... which will be a first for us. We have done the IlllumiNations cruise for birthdays before.

We usually fly to MCO but DH is more or less insisting on driving because of the cost of air ... plus I think he is planning on bringing some of our Christmas decorations so we have a partial Griswold Christmas Lights, tree, etc.

I feel kind of guilty given the state of the economy right now. We are truly blessed .. and looking forward to a wonderful Christmas ... even though I am looking at a 10-hour car ride

We also will be at BWV at Christmas, a family of 3, my DD is 13. We try and do WDW at Christmas every other year. Christmas is wonderful at the parks, but can be over crowded. If are planning to do Magic Kingdom on Christmas day get there first thing in the morning.
We have a 16-18 hour drive, so you are lucky with 10.

When we lived in PA the only time we drove to WDW was we were children with our families back in 1972 DH figures DD needs a road trip experience to WDW to make her childhood complete

We aren't planning on any parks Christmas Day ... at least I think that is the plan at this point. If we do a park ... we will be in early and out by lunch.

a little off topic but.... on these cruises do they do special things if its your b-day? we sre going sept 09 and will be celebrating my daughters 9th b-day and am looking for that special thing to do on her b-day. I was going to book 1900 park fare for dinner and hopefully get a dance with the prince but if there's other things to do I would love to here it.

There is a birthday add-on for the cruise which includes a birthday banner, balloon and a cake.

You can also arrange, through private dining at whichever resort you are leaving the marina, for a cake or other special treats.

I plan on calling private dining to see what I can arrange in addition to the water, soda and bagged snacks that will be provided.

When DH arranged for the IllumiNations cruise for my birthday a few years ago we had cake and champagne.
