One thing I was really excited about when I bought in was that I would be a part of a large mickey loving community. But I have to ask, what in the world is up with all the resort wars? I have seen more civil religious debates on the CB. I wish we could take some time and remember that it is WDW that we love, which is why we all make the heavy financial investments into it. Maybe I sound like a cornball when I say this, but I can't imagine what Walt would think about the arguments that go on here. :sad2: I would like to think our love of WDW is bigger than resort pools, hallways, and sit down restaurants.

Really, can't we all just get along? or at least pretend to? ;)

Sorry if this steps on any toes, it really is just the olive branch of a SSR owner reaching out to others...

It's really not as bad as it seems, Rozzie. There are plenty of "welcome home", "congrats", and "great trip report" threads here as well as a veritable treasure trove of great information about all things DVC. And lots of "Mickey loving" does in fact go on here. But granted, there are a few topics that are usually guaranteed to get the fingers typing at a somewhat furious pace. Resort preference happens to be one of them. ( as well as occupancy, guaranteeing room types, pool hopping, and those dreadful members who are always breaking the rules :>) ).

I wouldn't read too much into these "disagreements". It's been my experience that no matter which side of an issue one comes down on, at the end of the thread there is still a lot of mutual respect between the opposing members, ( though maybe not for the viewpoints, LOL! ). I would suggest though, that if you find these kinds of discussions upsetting, just skip the thread in favor of a topic that you find more appealing.

Anyway, no matter whether we all agree on everything or not, one thing you can be sure of is, if you ask a question about DVC you will get some excellent input from the folks that frequent the DVC boards.

I would agree 100% with that! Guess I was having one of my "moments". Thanks for reminding me! :)

We are emotionally tied to our purchases here, for many reasons. Its not even the same as saying you prefer one moderate over another, because you dont OWN a piece of any of the other hotels, etc. Sometimes it just feels personal because that is what Disney is selling us - a piece of WDW. So, don't insult my piece ;) Most of us are VERY tollerant of people explaining why they don't like a resort, but when some insist that some of the resorts are sub-par, it really can feel like it steps on your toes. Tell me all day why you don't like SSR, but when you insist that SSR is going to ruin DVC for everyone else, that feels kinda personal to those of us that own there. Its like telling me that I personally am going to be the downfall of something I love just as much as owners at other resorts.

I try to be duckish and let it all run from my back. However, that doesn't always work. Either way, there have only been maybe 2 people here that I won't respont to because I happen to think they are jerks. If there are ONLY 2 people here that think I am a jerk, I would be surprised. pirate:

I try to be civilized and remember that there is ALWAYS a person behind a name here with feelings. Some forget that and put on a bully act which I suspect they don't do in the real world, so I just ignore them and it works out pretty well.

Welcome Rozzie!

I think what a lot of it boils down to is the fact that buying into DVC was a huge decision for many people and they feel the need to "protect" what is their's. There needs to be reassurance that buying was the right choice and if anyone says something negative...it makes them second guess their decision. The only way to correct that, is to "strike back".

But really, this is no different from what happens in everyday life, there's always going to be someone that feels they have a nicer car, a bigger house, a better political candidate...take it all with a grain of salt and be happy that you're part of a large group of people that have one thing in common, and that is their love for Disney and all it includes (DVC, theme parks, family, etc.).

P.S. WELCOME HOME !!!

The only thing that should matter is that if you are happy with your own purchase, what do you care what others think about it?

I do, agree, however, that many people do get "carried away", shall I say, with the "defending" of their home resort. Quite frankly I don't get it, but hey, to each his/her own, right?

I'm happy that we bought in. We are extremely happy with our home resort of BWV. Many don't like it, but that doesn't really matter to me. As I said, we are happy with it. I would expect that others are happy with their own home resort. Disney is Disney. It's a magical place, no matter what resort you stay at when you are there.

Congratulations and Welcome Home, and I look forward to reading your first trip report!!!

Great too see another AL!!!!

Okay just ignore those posts that slam SSR. Everyone has different taste. I know easier to say than to do.

If you love SSR and that is where you brought you are ahead.

when BWV first opened you should have seem those posts. BWV and OKW members still will disagree about those resorts are the best.

Best is what you believe.

I brought OKW in 93 when it was the DVC. It is very different from the other DVC resorts. It is more like a Marriott - bigger rooms, bigger whirlpool tub, bigger washer/dryer - bigger everything. Then Disney learned that people were coming to the parks first and some of them like the hotels. So BWV. BWV is the first hybrid - it has parts that are a timeshare and parts that are a hotel.VB was designed close to this pattern but even the hotel was part of DVC not WDW. BWI is definely WDW.

then VWL and BCV - again you should have read these posts. It can get pretty silly. Some people forget that everyone has different taste. that is one think that WDW does better than anyone else. Each and every resort that they built is a little different. Makes life interesting!

when I want see if my purchase for DVC was worth it - I just visit or stay offsite timeshare. Orlando has a bunch of timeshares. at the end of the week I visit my DVC.

NO REGRETS not a single one!!!

Rozzie,

Don't let 'em get to you. It's really just the same few every time. The vast majority don't really care and have stopped bothering to post on those kind of threads.

I think SSR looks lovely, although we'll probably never stay there since I can't get DH out of the VWL! :teeth: Don't get me wrong, I LOVE our home resort, but wouldn't mind visiting the others some time. I did get to go to HHI and it was great! I think each one has it's good points.

Congrats on your purchase and WELCOME HOME!

I usually don't answer threads started by SSRers. Just kidding. But there is the problem with message boards. You can't always tell.
I come from a town with two baseball teams. You're either a Sox fan or a Cubs fan. People don't hate the fans of the other team, but there is a lot of good-natured teasing that goes on. I think MOST of what happens here is that. From what I have seen and read there are very few people who will only stay at one DVC resort. They may have favorites. I don't bash anyone for their opinions on where they want to stay. I think most people do get along here. As far as the first part of your post though, I will never concider myself part of a Mickey loving community. I love WDW. I tolerate the mouse.

I agree totally that folks will protect what it theirs. I personally cannot wait to try all of the DVC options to form my own opinion. I love my home at BCV, but one of the selling points that got us to buy was the option to stay at all the DVC resorts. I realize it is hard to deal with the negativity that sometimes rears its ugly head on these boards, I try to just feel the good vibes :goodvibes and ignore the bad. :)

I know this is a bit off-topic, but can I just say that you seem like a very intelligent poster?
