According to the thread at the top of this forum, at AKV there are - 134 villas within Jambo House at AKL (46 Dedicated Studios, 82 Lockoff 2BRs, 6 GVs) and 324 villas in Kidani Village (140 Dedicated 2BRs, 168 Lockoff 2BRs, 16 GVs) for a total of 458 Units / 708 Max. Available Rooms.

I have a few questions about this. First, am I reading this list correctly, that there are no studios at Kidani Village? Assuming that all of the studios are at Jambo House, does anyone know how many are savannah view?

Also, can someone explain what exactly a lockoff is? I had thought that it was a two-bedroom created by a one-bedroom and a studio, but if there are no studios at Kidani Village but there are two-bedroom lockoffs, obviously I am wrong about that.

Kidani Village certainly has many studio rooms. With each studio/1br being created by dividing a 2 Br lock-off into two rooms. Therefore since Kidani has a maximum of 168 2Br lock-offs there are potentially 168 Studios and 168 1Br. Kidani also only has two categories of rooms - Standard and Savannah rooms, while Jambo House has four - Value, Standard, Savannah, and Concierge club. Hope that helps.

IIRC, the only time you see specific studios listed are when they are dedicated ones--meaning, they can not be combined with a 1 bedroom to make a 2 bedroom lock off.

As already mentioned, all of the studios and 1 bedrooms at Kidani are lock offs and therefore can be booked on their own or as part of a 2 bedroom. Exactly how DVC determines how to do this, I am not sure....

You thought correctly! :cheer2:
They just don't directly state 1-bedroom and studios unless they're dedicated (i.e. not a lockoff) :thumbsup2

yep - it's a 2BR with a door between the studio and 1BR. DVC can book it as a 2BR by leaving that internal door open or they can "lock off" the door in between and rent the space as a 1BR and a studio.

When we travel with my parents, we always book a 2BR lock-off. Our family of 4 typically books a 1BR and my parents are fine with a studio. The lock-off guarantees that we will be right next door to each other AND it is fewer points than booking a studio and 1BR separately. The only potential downside is that if either of us had to cancel, we can't just "drop" the 1BR or the studio. The reservation would be for a 2BR so we would have to cancel the whole thing and try to rebook.

I believe that when you book a 2BR (on the phone), you will be assigned a dedicated 2BR by default. The lock-off is a separate, guaranteed booking category. When they book a lock-off, they remove a studio and a 1BR from inventory instead of removing a 2BR. The dedicated 2BR's can ONLY be used as 2BR's so if a lock-off is not specifically requested, you would get a dedicated...unless there are no dedicated 2BR's left, of course.
