Some questions about HDD

Hello there,

My friend and I will be attending our first HDD the day we arrive. We'll be in cat2 at the 6:15 show. We're very excited but I have a few (I am hoping easy) questions.

1. Can we get something other than mashed potatoes? (Friend has a deep dislike of anything potato)
2. I'm allergic to strawberries, is there a different dessert I can have? (yes I've noted this on our ADR :) )
3. We'll be staying at POP for our trip and planning to use Disney transportation to get to and from the show/meal. I've read at the end of the show there are buses provided to bring you back to your resort. Is this still true or will we have to take the boat to MK, then bus from MK to POP?

Thank you in advance!

I can't really answer the first two, but we had a different experience on our last trip in October with transportation. On prior trips there were buses going back to the resorts, but on our last trip, all the buses were going back to the MK and we were told we could get a bus back to the resort from there. I am not sure if it was a fluke or if others have had a similar experience.

1. My daughter is a picky eater and we asked our waiter if he had something for the kids. He asked if she liked Mac & Cheese, and she was thrilled! He came back with a huge plate of Mac & Cheese. So yes, you can get other things, you just need to ask.

2. Disney takes allergies very seriously, so all you have to do is ask your waiter and they'll bring you a substitute. Exactly what else they have may change from time to time. But they will give you something else.

3. Not sure about this one. We always take the boat back.

For transportation, we checked out the buses (we were there in Dec) and they didn't go to all of the resorts, just some. For us, we were told to take the MK bus and then transfer to a BW bus.

. . . yes, as they don't have Mashed Potatoes on the menu
. . . Bread, Tossed Green Salad, Baked Beans, Fried Chicken, BBQ Pork Ribs, Corn on the Cob, Strawberry Shortcake

. . . usually they can offer you fruit

. . . buses are operating so you can get back to your WDW resort
. . . some require a transfer
. . . but, POP is big enough to have a non-transfer bus route
. . . it is a short walk (out of HDDR main doors, turn right, walk about 50-yards)

There were mashed potatoes when we went a number of years ago and they are still on the menu according to ALL EARS

The Allears menu is from Sept. The current menu on the WDW site doesn't mention them :

In between skits and song standards, chow down on buckets of all-you-care-to-enjoy fried chicken and smoked BBQ pork ribs, as well as a tossed green salad, baked beans, fresh-baked cornbread and strawberry shortcake

But if they are still being served, the OP can ask ( as soon as they are seated, since they start bringing out the food right away) for a substitute.

We did have Mashed Potatoes in the spring along with corn off the cob and baked beans. I would be bummed if there was corn on the cob and one less side dish.

I am not a big eat with your hands person so this meal is a "personal struggle" and I don't eat baked beans. Ugh.

This is all it says online "In between skits and song standards, chow down on buckets of all-you-care-to-enjoy fried chicken and smoked BBQ pork ribs, as well as a tossed green salad, baked beans, fresh-baked cornbread and strawberry shortcake." with no mention of any side vegetables.

The only time we had buses to take us from FW back to our resort was when we went to the 3rd show. It ended at ~10:30. MK had already closed for the night so there were buses to take guests from FW to their resort without transferring in MK.
When we did the earlier seating, we had to go back to MK and transfer.

I wonder if there has been an unannounced change in the after show transportation arrangements. As far back as I can remember, guests at the 4:00 show needed to go to MK to catch resort buses. But guests at both the 6:15 and 8:30 shows would have buses waiting close to Pioneer Hall to take them back to their resorts. Often these buses would be shared by several resorts, but it was still quicker than going to MK (if it was still open).

Agree that this is how it was for us each November. We always do the later show (previously 9:30, now 8:30), and there was a bus that went to several resorts (seemingly by area). But this November (2015), we were all bussed back to MK for transfer. Maybe with the earlier HDDR start times, and dependent on MK hours, it just makes more sense (more efficient) for DW.

1) Somebody must be listening.
2) Today (1/5/2016), the internal HDDR menu now shows Mashed Potatoes.

We have always had mashed potatoes and we have been dining here since 1993. We were there in the fall and yes, mashed potatoes were on the menu. Must be the gremlins at work on the Disney website again. . . :confused3

Weird, I don't remember the Mashed potatoes.

The cornbread....I always eat too much of that cornbread and then can't eat the rest of the meal. It is my kryptonite....

Mashed potatoes are mine! :rotfl:I am not saying that Disney doesn't remove them from the menu, ever (I remember when the bread was a loaf of wonderful bread--not cornbread--and the corn was always on the cob, not off the cob with peppers); changes happen--but where the potatoes are concerned, never over the years when we have dined.

Disney food blog just posted a menu a few days ago in their food review, had the mashed taters on them... :confused3

1) Yep.
2) But, the INTERNAL menus sometimes lag in updating.
3) And, those are supposed to be THE go-to-listings for CM's.

We are going again in Feb. and cannot wait. Great show and food. Whee!

We just did the 8:30 show. They no longer provide buses back to the resorts. If MK is open they will have buses back to MK then catch a bus to your resort. If not you have to take a bus to Disney Springs then a resort bus.
