Some help with rolodexes

So I've decided without ever doing a rolodex that this is what I am going to make this year for Christmas for aunts/uncles who buy for my son but have no kids for us to buy for, teachers, etc. So I pretty much have no idea what I am doing.

I bought a rolodex at the CKC (the patented one with the single notch bottom) and one set of paper to go with it so I can do one for myself easily first. I figure I can cut my own 4x4 and round them (with my new corner rounder) and buy a punch from staples and then use regular bases. But where can I get those bases as cheap as possible (I'll need at least 10 - 15 of them I'd figure)?

Now for the hard part - what is the best way to decorate these and let non-scrapping people know what they are for? I've seen ribbons which looks great but what about the front page? Do I cover the staples or use colored ones? I want the to be easy and inexpensive but look really good. I went to a ribbon outlet this weekend while camping and got tons of ribbon to use - mostly plain so I can supplement with patterned when I find some of that cheap too.

Any ideas, pictures, instructions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

We used a patterned paper and added on a quote, a sticker or two, and a ribbon to each page in class.

I saw that on the calendar. Is there a theme to it? I might join this one!

we had talked about it being for the months. then someone else said they wanted to make a disney themed one. so i'm thinking we might have 2 groups. one for regular 12 months and one for disney 12 months. and the cover page as well.
hope this helps!

Not sure that I totally understood your post, but are you looking for standard Rolodex bases? I was looking to possibly do a "Rolodex album" for a gift a few years ago and was astonished at how expensive they were (at Staples), so I gave up the idea for the time being. Fast forward a few months and I found not one but two empty Rolodex (large ones) at a yard sale.... and I paid less than $1 each! I haven't used them yet but I do have the start of a plan rolling around in my head. Try hitting a few yard sales and checks out your local Goodwill and/or Salvation Army. Good luck!.....................P
