Some guests don't realize that not everyone gets up at the crack of dawn.......

My 'favourite' noise experience year to date... I was working in my room at BCV around 8am, and there were several kids playing in the hallway for at least 30 minutes, running and screaming. When the game turned to repeatedly knocking on doors and running away, I went out in the hall and suggested that they find somewhere else to play.

The kids went back to their room next door, and I heard their parents yelling at them that they wanted to sleep in and for the kids to go back outside in the hall! Kids explained that the 'mean lady next door' wouldn't let them, so Dad encouraged all three kids to start kicking the walls and the connecting door as loudly as they could, while he cheered them on.

BCV staff were not impressed with the treatment of their resort by Dad and crew, and came up as soon as I telephoned - the person who answered the phone in the call centre could hear the kicking sounds while I was on the call. :sad2:

OMG!! You should kicked back! That is just crazy, some people are just not right in the head, who teaches their kids that stuff. Well I suppose we can all rest knowing they won't be going to DW too much longer, they'll be too busy paying for their kids bail when they're arrested for knocking off liquore stores!

We had the louds upstairs from us at CR and I believe after we complained (at midnight when my dh was sick after 3 nights of the elephant rain dance) they quited down that night but made it a point to be even louder the next night. They were literally jumping from the beds to the floor and they were heavy walkers (no big deal, can't do much about that) but the jumping was way out of control. Oh and they threw cigarette butts onto our balcony :sad2: It was just not a sad day when they left, lol.

One morning we were sleeping in and we could hear a child SCREAMING for about 30 minutes (majory hissy fit) and that was the only time we were woken up in the AM even though we had Chef Mickey's right below us, that one child in the hallway screaming over and over....

We always tell our children to be quiet when we're walking by rooms no matter what time of day, you never know who's enjoying a little nap time.

Totally agree. I also think Disney should do a little more tol essen the amount of hard surfaces (sound dampening surfaces, sound insulation, etc.) within the resorts considering the diversity of guest and activities, combined with their rehab efforts.

While I agree that some Disney hotels could use more insulation, how hard is it to NOT repeatly slam your outside room door before 7am? (You know when someone goes outside their room (to ummmmm ...... :rolleyes1 for whatever reason) and flips the lock out so they can get back into the room without using the card key and lets the the door close on the lock over and over). In addition to that when that person is outside is it REALLY necessary to yell to your children in the room to "go back to bed people are sleeping!" ?:confused3

why are people so rude? i swear it's a lack of brains and common sense that some people sleep in and some get up early and not matter what time of the day running and screaming down the halls and banging on other peoples doors is just not acceptable. what will it take to make rude people understand this? :confused3

but but but but it is THEIR vacation too and THEIR kids are just kids.... how dare we infringe on their rights to enjoy themselves?? ;)

I have to agree that a small box fan and a white noise machine go a long way toward dampening unwanted sound. I would never go to Disney without them.

Those parents who wanted to sleep in should have gotten a two room suite. In this day and age, they were lucky that the "mean neighbor" just told the kids to be quiet. They could have disappeared without a trace.

The only bad thing about complaining when you have noisy neighbors is that the person complaining is almost always the one who is asked to move to another location. It's not fair that another person's rudeness should cause that kind of inconvenience to my vacation. So if I do end up with an issue the sound machine can't cover (like the time the upstairs neighbors at CR were "moving" so heavily that it was making our beds shake) I try to get through it and hope they aren't there for long. Fortunately, there have only been a couple of incidents in the dozens of vacations I've taken that fell into this category.

I have to wonder why it is that the Polynesian is always mentioned when it comes to noisiness in the resorts. When we stayed there, in '03, it was the noisiest stay of all. There were kids running up and down the hallways, hitting doors as they went by. This happened both early in the morning, before 8 and late at night, around midnight. Never had that bad a stay at the moderates or the values. It's those darn inside hallways! I've been lucky at the DVC resorts and usually end up with a villa at the end of the hallway, so there isn't very much foot traffic.
But, we also have a quiet time rule as well......9-9. It's just common courtesy.
Wish more people had a quiet rule.

cool, let's tear down poly and rebuild it with sound absorbing material

The resorts where we have had the most problems with "rude people" noise was Polynesian and Yacht Club. Our quietest locations were POP and POR. It just depends who your neighbors are.:confused3 And of course some people are just crazy!!! ....:crazy2: :scared1:

I think it is more the inside hallways than the Polynesian. We had it more at CR. The kids can run down the hall and those squeals travel!::yes::

The most annoying thing I experience as far as noise was parents that let their kids skate around the upper floor walkways at the POP with those "heelies" on.......SOOOOO loud when you are trying to sleep....late at nite or early in the morning.....

We didn't have this problem when we stayed at the Poly, but have had it at other hotels on beach and other vacations. A white noise machine is a good idea. The worst part, I think, is that it can REALLY affect your vacation if it goes uncorrected. Repeated interrupted sleep (especially if it's in the middle of the night) really puts a damper on my spirits, thus affecting the whole trip.

I just don't get why so many people don't have manners!! We always had "quiet time" too - 9 PM - 9 AM or so, no phone calls, etc. when I was growing up. And we were taught to ALWAYS be quieter in a hotel - no matter what time it was (even quieter at night/early in the AM!). I teach my kids this too, even if it's the middle of the day, the people in the next room don't want to hear you screaming or jumping around!! And as a parent to young kids, I always appreciate if it's somewhat quiet during the afternoon - nap time!

The Unofficial Guide has an explanation of sorts for the rooms being noisier at the Deluxe resorts vs. the Moderates/Values. It's the inside corridor! The room doors don't have to be weather proof at the Deluxe Resorts with the interior corridors. So, the doors are thinner. At the Moderates/Values, the doors have to be weather proof. So, thicker doors = quieter rooms.

Food for thought...

Look who is "parenting" them. :sad2:

It is fun isn't it;) , we had a 5 year old or so get up early and run from one end of their room to the balcony screaming. I was so glad when they were on their way to the parks. It was every morning for about 5 mornings and lasted about an hour.

There's also the fact that sound can travel a LONG ways down inside corridors without losing any volume. When I lived in the campus dorms occasionally people would get a little loud in the upstairs lobby late at night. I was in the very last room in the hallway and it was just as loud there as farther up the hall. I would stagger up the hall when that happens and close the fire door at the entrance to the wing (held open normally by a magnet) as that would block the noise. This was in a building with very good sound insulation too. The only noise would come in through the door, not the walls, and the doors were all heavy fire-rated doors.

Some people just have no consideration for their neighbors. Happens in apartment complexes too. My last neighbors on the bedroom side of my apartment liked to listen to loud music, sometimes late at night. They were sometimes jerks about turning it down too, had to threaten to call the law a few times. Got to where I would bang on the wall loudly until they shut it off. I was very glad when they moved out. Current neighbor is wonderful and quiet.

We personally have never had any trouble at any of the disney resorts where we have stayed (Poly, BWI, CBR), however, we ran into a gaggle of cheerleaders at a hotel in Harrisburg and that was horrible! They were screaming until at least 2 am, no one got any sleep, and it wasn't just one room full of them, they were everywhere!
As a side note, why is it ok to categorize children as spoiled because they stay in a deluxe resort?

Well I do not ever perceive that CM are going to patrol the hallways, nor are people going to change their behaviors because their at Disney World. We have been woke up by hallway and room noises 1am 2:30am 5am.

The bottom line is the environment is the only thing we can control. Hallways can be updated to lessen sounds along with doors and rooms. I have stayed at similar star level hotels right next to Interstate highways and International Airports and heard nothing outside my room.

Disney needs to update their resorts to align with the diversity of guests and their early morning and very late night activities bringing guests back to their rooms at all hours of the day.

"As a side note, why is it ok to categorize children as spoiled because they stay in a deluxe resort?"

It's not. But I think it's OK to categorize them as spoiled when they're not asked to show basic consideration for others.

All kids are going to make noise and have momentary lapses of bad manners. It's how the parents react ("SSSHHH!!" or nothing at all) that defines whether or not the kids are spoiled.
