sha_lyn could use some hugs. She had to put down her dog of 16.5 years today. She came to my place for a meeting, but she wasn't in a hurry to return home. She was OK at my place, but I anticipate that this will really sink in soon.

 to you, Sharon.

:grouphug: to you Sharon. I know how hard it is to lose a dog. They really become part of the family.

 sha_lyn, we're here for you if you want to talk about what happened. May you remember the good memories that you had with your dog.

Its the only bad part about having dogs, they're not with us very long.

Such a sad and difficult thing to have to do :( {{{HUGS}}} for Sha_lyn

So very sorry, Sharon, to hear that. Sad to lose them. As airhead said, they are here so short a time.

How nice to be with Heather at a sad time like this. My best for Brianna and Russell, and also Tony. Remember, he will be waiting..................

Just this side of heaven is a place
called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet
goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and
play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and
comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those
who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember
them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss
someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and
looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs
carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you
cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses
rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once
more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never
absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
The vet metioned that today while we were talking about what to do. He knew that she had no quality of life left, anything we would have done would have only been for us.

I really need to talk about the "good times" so please bare with me

Sandy came into my life at a very crazy time, and in fact was part of what got DH and I together. She was abandoned in the middle of a tropical storm at a friends country store outside of augusta GA. These are the same freinds who introduced DH and I. Anyway they were about to call the pound because they couldn't keep her. I had only known DH a few days at the time, and I couldn't have her where I lived. I asked him to take her. I started visiting her at his home and that is how we got together.

We were told when DS was born that we needed to give her away because she had been our baby for a 1 1/2 yrs. Everyone was afraid she would be jealous and turn on him. Just the oppisite was true. She was very protective of him and we use to have ot put her in another room to spank him.

She loved cheese and crackers. That was her favorite treat. I knew her time was ending when she would even eat them.
She loved cat but hated other dogs. She was very patient with children. Oh the things DS did to her when he was little. She just lapped it up, not matter what he did to her.

Just talked to my mom. She was upset that she didn't take the time to pet Sandy when she was here a couple of days ago. They had a special bond for some reason. Mom has never liked pets but she really has a special bond with Sandy.

thanks Heather for posting this. It was great spending time with you and your mom after the meeting. It really helped keep my mind off of this for a little while.

It sounds like Sandy was a wonderful, loving, family member to all of you..

I'm so sorry for your loss..:(

Sandy does indeed sound like such a nice dog, Sharon, her memories will remain forever.

I'm glad I could help, Sharon....

Just last month I went through my own canine troubles. I took a little trip and made peace with it. I want to try again in the future. Maybe we can try it together.

Focusing on the great times is what's important. Sandy gave you so many days and joys and that will never leave you.

And if you need to escape for a bit, call me. I'm always up for an adventure!

 It is so hard losing a cherished pet. I remember when I lost Blue (my shaded blue persian), it tore my heart out:sad1: On a happier note I was adopted by three new persian babies!:sunny:

So sorry you lost a faithful friend. It looks like she served her purpose in life by bringing you and your DH together! The next 16 years was icing on the cake. She had a good long life and was loved very much I can tell.
