Some Florida rental car drivers complain they’re paying tolls twice

, well that sucks!

Whenever possible (not necessarily whenever convenient) use an attendant booth and get a receipt when paying cash tolls.

States would not have to step in if rental companies did not fight with customers (they can argue).

Once the electronic tolls came out, I 'almost' always remember to request "receipt, please" .... and I SAVE those little scraps of paper in an envelope. They don't get tossed until several months worth of my credit card cycle through.

Great advice that I will follow for this upcoming trip.

Last year, Dollar sent me a letter indicating I failed to pay a toll, and that they were charging me a penalty fee. Luckily, they provided the exact address of the toll I supposedly missed. When I googled the address, it was about 100 miles from WDW. I called Dollar and explained that we didn't even leave the property, except to drive to MCO. They waived the penalty.

This year, I will save every receipt, just in case!

They must tell you when and where they claim the violation happened, upon your request.

Also they may not sign you up for the Platepass or similar service if you don't want it and don't try to use it.

I remember reading on here 2 years ago about the toll coming off or going on the Florida Turnpike on the way to Disney. MAke suer you stay to the left as you will end up going thru the EZ pass one and paying on your credit card...and it was $25. Anyway of course my husband being a man would not listend to me and doesnt he end up going thru the ez pass...naturally I freaked:scared1:he laughed...anyway we never got charged. But I am still careful to make sure he stays in the right lane...and he does now....:confused3

Florida can take a lot of the blame.

A lot of Disney visitors come from the NE. It would make life easier if we could use our EZ-Pass. At one time the FL toll roads each needed a different transponder. You needed something like 10 different transponders if you wanted to cover every toll road in the state.

The airport charges for parking, charges large fees to people who rent cars and charge car services (and taxis) fees. I don't see any reason why the road from MCO to WDW needs to be a toll road. JMO but there is no excuse to have an exact change only toll on a road/exit that's travelled by visitors who just flew into Orlando.

Toll roads used to excuse a driver who "missed" a toll. A reasonable accommodation to guests from out of the area. JMO but once a toll authority decides to do that kind of enforcement they lose the right to make it difficult for people to pay tolls. That means every toll needs enough manned lanes (24/7) to accommodate drivers without exact change without unreasonably long delays.

"If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins."

You can send in the payment shortly after you were unable to make exact change. You can look for a label next to the coin basket giving the address, or you can go online to find that out.
