These are some DVC rumors my family heard on our recent trip to WDW. I don't know if these are new news to anyone on these boards but thought that I would pass them on as interesting tidbits.

Our DVC guide told us that the DCL is hoping to add a Mediterranean or West Coast cruise in the future.

Also my DM and DF struck up a conversation with a couple in EPCOT waiting to watch Illuminations. The woman claimed to have worked for Mrs. Walt Disney and now for Eisner. She said that the success of DVC has been a huge surprise for many in the Disney Company, especially in California. According to her, Disney has slowly been acquiring hotels around Disneyland in plans to build a DVC resort on the west coast.

I don't know if any of these rumors will come to fruition, but I would love a Mediterranean cruise added to the DCL itinerary!
:p

A West Coast DVC would be wonderful! Who knows, maybe it's not 'just a rumor'. :D

Wouldn't the Mediterranean be wonderful. I've been hoping for Italy or Paris myself. These *rumours* have been *sailing* for a couple years now. I guess we will have to wait and sea!!!;)

I am hoping for a west coast DVC or at least a west coast cruise. That would be great for us out in the west and less expensive. We will have to wait and see. The rumors have been out there for years and hopefully those rumors will become a reality.

West coast would be another benefit - is anyone thinking about an add-on?? ;)

There was a DVC planed for the west coast. Disney even bought the property in Laguna Beach with a beautiful view of the Ocean. Then after just one meeting all plans for DVC outside WDW were droped . The list included New York City, Beaver Creek Co. , the Leguna Beach property was sold to Marriott who latter developed it in to a Timeshare.
So I have doughts if Disney is going to start developing new DVC resorts outside WDW anytime soon.

See "Disney's Newport Coast Villas, the Disney Vacation Club that Never Happened" at http://www.yesterland.com/ncv.html

Disney still has some buildable land in Anaheim (surface parking lots and the strawberry field) near Disneyland. Yes, some of it was acquired by buying up old motels and demolishing them. But it's really very little land, especially if they decide to go ahead with a third theme park. Would a DVC resort really be the best, most profitable use of some of this valuable land?

Interesting rumors, but I would not hold my breath (except perhaps on the West Coast cruise).

Actually the additional Cruise options are the most reasonable and likely to happen. With the events in the past, I can't see DVC expanding outside WDW. As noted, they had teh Newport Beach property and actually announced a resort then back down and sold to Marriott. They also had a contract on an existing Hotel/condo resort in CO with rumors of adding DVC or converting it. They actively explored options in NYC but I don't think it got as far as the other 2. The rumor of an additional 1 or 2 ships with other itenararies is more believable to me, for what it's worth.

I would love to see another DVC outside of the WDW-area. I was really sad to learn how the Newport DVC concept was dropped. The offsites generally offer a more affordable vacation. There's no "Disney Guilt" about vacationing in Orlando but not spending more time and $$$$ at WDW. Offsites give more flexibility to the entire DVC program. Hope DVD changes it's mind about another well placed offsite.

On our last cruise in August, we had the little "on board" cruise talk. The director told of a third ship being built and the plans for a Meditteranean cruise. It wasn't definite, however, she talked as if it would probably happen.

BTW, the new ship, if I recall correctly, will be taller than the Wonder and Magic.

... could they possibly base it out of Port Canaveral ? I don't know much about the cruise industry, but wouldn't a round trip transatlantic require at least six days, not to mention the Med portion of the trip ? Sounds very expensive.

No, they would have to base it out of Eurpoe someplace. They could probably do a land/sea vacation package with Disneyland Paris though!

I was going through my oldest DVC literature and sure enough on the packet I received in 1995 upon touring Conch Flats, I have a printed advertisement for the California DVC. The booklets I have are strange, celophane covers that are attached upside down to the DVC brochures.

I remember that tour like it was yeaterday, I couldnt bring myself to buy in though, it took me all this time , I finally bought BCV this year, but I have been dreaming of DVC for all this time.

Back then it was a deal, free passes too, for everyone staying!!

There have been many indications that the folks at Disney Cruise Line -- management, ships' captains, and all the way down -- would like to expand the fleet and add new itineraries. And there's been an official statement of work on a new ship design.

But what Disney Cruise Line wants and what Disney executive management in Burbank is willing to pay for may be two different things. Contracts between cruise lines and shipyards are not secrets. There is no new Disney Cruise Line ship being built at any shipyard at this time.

I hope the rumors come true and that Disney will announce a contract with a shipyard in the next 6 months. The rumor says that either the Magic or the Wonder would be repositioned to the West Coast.

Imagine Alaska cruises in the summer season and Mexican Riviera cruises the rest of the year! Dream about a private beach and Disney village in Mexico, rivaling Castaway Cay. Visualize a new Disney ship serving the Caribbean from Port Canaveral -- specifically designed for 7-night cruises, with 7 different restaurants for the dining rotation. (Those are just my thoughts; I haven't heard any rumors about a private Mexican beach or 7 restaurants.)

So make sure you have enough banked DVC points in 2005 -- if the rumor becomes reality.

To quote someone famous: "if your heart is in your dream, no request is too extreme..." I've been wishing for & dreaming of DVC in CA for yrs. I will say that our stay ay GC on pts., while not classic DVC, was a good substitute.
