Some Disney Quest questions.

Hello,

In our previous trips, we have never done Disney Quest, because the kids were younger. DS is now 11 1/2 and DD is 8 1/2. I know my son would love it, and I'm sure my dd thinks she would. I have a few questions though...

Is it good for their age groups?

DD gets motion sick in the car (but not on the teacups, go figure), will she have trouble here?

What is a normal amount of time we would need to allow to spend here?

Would it be a good activity for the day of MNSSHP?


I love to shop at DTD but my family gets bored with it quickly then they get cranky, so I thought they could go to DQ (with dh of course, who I KNOW would love DQ) and I could go shopping.

I do not like places like DQ, But we took my four kids 5yrs- 8yr and 10 and 16 and dh and I, we went in at 11:00am and came out at 11:00pm , we all had such a good time in there and there was so much to do. your'll kids and dh will love it!!
Could could spend as much time or alittle time in there. It's great for all age groups except little ones.

Your kids are perfect ages for DQ!!! If they like games, they will love it. My nephew at age 11 wanted to go every single night. He is now 14 and still loves to go to DQ as much as possible. My niece who is 9 also loves DQ as well and started going to DQ at age 6 and has always enjoyed it as well. There are regular arcade games, ticket games (whack a mole, skeeball, etc) as well as Virtual Reality (VR) rides and so forth.

In regards to time, they will stay as long as you let them. Getting them to leave could be a challenge depending on your children’s game addiction level.

As for motion sickness, your DD may get sick on some of the VR rides where the visual effects can unbalance your equilibrium (as with in a car but not teacups). So depending on the actual VR ride type she may or may not get motion sickness. I believe they sell Dramamine (for kids) and they also make a bracelet that is suppose to aid with motion sickness as well (have never tried though).

Thanks everyone! I see now that it doesn't open until 11:30, so it seems it might not be best for MNSSHP day, as they probably couldn't stay long enough. Maybe it would be good for the day after, as they could sleep in before they go there?

We LOVED DQ but just one word of advice...unless you want a heck of a workout, avoid the cartoon character VR thing like the plauge. It looks really cool but is rater lame. You're a cartoon character and are fighting other cartoon characters...................with a cheap ripoff version of a light saber...... Now if that wasn't bad enough here is what you do....swing that darn sword left and right as fast as you can for the extent of the game. That's right, these light sabers won't hurt anyone if you jab, swing up/down, or any other direction. Granted I got high score BUT I was sweating like a hog when I got done. The game would have been much better as a 1st person shooter rather than a "fake jedi" ripoff.

On the otherhand, Pirates of the carribean is worth the price of admission to DQ alone. Very well balanced and fun game, especially with family where you coperate to win the game.

About the motion sickness.
Be very careful about the magic carpet ride, you wear VR helmet, I had to stop part way. When my husband does the ride, I see lots of people looking a little quessy coming out.

There is another ride, where you are in a machine, and its like a land rover or something. The people riding in the back actually got sick, it wasn't a pleasant experience.

Plus, there are other ones too, just make sure your daughter is careful, and your husband keeps a loose eye on what she gets on. Once you get motion sickness, at least for me its time to head back to the room.
There are tons of non-motion stuff too.
Lots of video games, in one of the upper floors is ski ball.
There is a boat/raft ride, the pirates ride is always fun.

I think your kids and husband will love it.

My DS has always loved DQ. My DD, last visit age 7, was a bit of a pain in the rear there. While DS would do snowboarding or any of the video games for hours, she wanted to go to the arcade area, and play the games for which you win redemption tickets---but you have to pay (and it's pricey) to play those games. After blowing another 20 beyond admission price, she then wanted to go to the creation area, which has a toy designer thing and other attractions which cost, you guessed it, MONEY. We finally sent her with DH next door to a movie so DS could game in peace with mom (diehard Galaga fan)

I looked at Debs site, www.wdwig.com, and they have it opening daily at 11:30.

Another question. Do you need cash for the arcades and the creation areas or can you use your room card???

Erika--For the arcade games you empty your wallet into a ticket type dispenser, which gives you a card with a certain number of credits. It's been awhile and somebody could confirm, but I think you can refresh the card when the credits run out.

I don't recall seeing anyway that you could use your room card in either location, but perhaps someone could confirm or deny this.

For those with motion problems - I had a ton of trouble on the jungle cruise thing, it about killed me... However, there is a thing upstairs that is a 4 person alien game and it was great. I did not get sick on the helmet/light saber game, but the visual effects were a little blurry when we were there.

I have terrible motion sickness, but I was able to do the Jungle Cruise ride by looking to my side, and almost behind every so often. As long I only looked up once in a while, I was ok. This of course was from the back of the raft, I'm sure I wasn't much help steering! The Pirates ride was awesome, didn't feel any motion sickness there, and I agree- it is worth the price of admission!

The arcade games are included in the cost of admission to Disney Quest. You can play arcade games all day for nothing!

The creation stuff I believe is free, but if you want to keep what you create their is a cost and be sure to buy it shortly after you create it because they delete unpurchased items from their systems regularly.

I wasn't being precise: I should have said "midway" games. I think of them as "chuck e. cheese games." Anyway these are the ones on the top floor, I think, like skeeball and the whack-a-mole and were the only games my DD wanted to play. They cost extra. Description from allears:

Are there any extra charges once I'm inside?

Your admission includes unlimited use of all attractions except those which give redemption tickets that can be traded in for prizes. These are spruced-up traditional midway-style games like skee ball. You can play these games for a small fee, and the tickets you win can be redeemed at the gift shop for prizes - anything from a plastic Slinky to a DisneyQuest t-shirt. You can save up tickets for redemption on a later visit, if you like.

You'll also have the option to purchase any artistic items you create at the Animation Academy, Magic Mirror, Living Easels or Sid's Create-a-Toy attractions. Playing with these attractions is free in itself, however, and there's no obligation to buy your creation afterwards.

When we go to the arcades my kids love to play those games that you get tickets. We have been to DQ about 7 times and not once did they ever ask me for money. They are very happy with the games you can play for free. This is a favorite with them, wish they would include it with the pluses. We had a fits pass last time and ended up in DQ a few nights.
