Hi everyone..........I am so glad to be back on the boards. I missed you all. Anyhoo, I had some questions about Atkins Induction........

1- Where can I buy these Ketostik's I was reading about to check on ketosis??

2- I read on a previous post that you can have sugar free jello and rootbear floats and even just soda on induction??? I thought we could only have the items on the list of acceptable foods....I really don't know about the drinks because it says to avoid teas, coffee, etc. with caffeine in it.

3- After induction can I start having other foods like somethings from the atkins line of products??

Thanks gang..........some of this atkins stuff is a little confusing.

The ketosis strips can be found at SuperWalmart or just about any place that has a pharmacy.Sometimes you have to ask coz they have them behind the counter.I have found they are quite a bit cheaper at Atkins.com.I paid $12.73 for 25 strips at Walmart but Atkins had 50 for under $8(forgot the exact amount)

SF jello IS mentioned on the induction list. Sometimes I buy the mix and sometimes I get the ones in the ind. cups from the groc.store. It really saved my life durung induction. Some people make whipped topping for it using heavy cream and splenda but I prefer it without.

The soda should be diet soda and pref. with splenda. Diet Rite now uses Splenda. It is still best to limit your soda and drink mostly water because there is alot of sodium in the sodas. Crystal Light is also allowed and I have used KoolAid and mix it with Splenda. Still I would say 95% of my liquids are from WATER!!

Yes after the initial 2 weeks of induction you can start to add in some of the Atkins products. They are colorcoded as to what levels they are good for . There are other brands that are acceptable also.Prices vary and there are several companies ol-line that sell these products and the prices vary ALOT!!!!

Natures Own makes an EXCELLENT red. carb bread. It has 5 NET carbs per slice.

Good Luck!!

mum4jenn pretty much answered everything! I agree about the Diet Rite - it's one of the only sodas sweetened with Splenda, and best of all - it's also Sodium-free!! :)

I like the flavored Diet Rite (Raspberry, I think?) with a little heavy cream mixed in! Safe for induction (but not to take the place of water) and delicious!

I can get 50 at my Rite Aid for about $13. (Actually I can get them for about $10 since my DD is an employee. ;) )

For those of us following the plan from the web site, it is not mentioned on the acceptable foods list, but IS included in the menu suggestions for induction.
Believe me PrincessMo, I have been very confused about this too!

I THINK that PrincessMo was referring to the fact the Root Beer has caffiene (I THINK?) and we are not supposed to have caffienated beverages.

thanks everyone for your help and advice...........

I guess some of these points may be left up to interpretation or the use of your own good judgement.

thanks again..........it helped me bunches.........xoxoxoxo

Most root beer does not have caffeine it in, but most brands you find are sweetened with aspartame. That's a decision you'll have to make for yourself... personally, I'll have one now and then.

We just got back from a trip to Illinois. We bought 14 twelve packs of the berry, tangerine and white grape. The tangerine with Half & Half tastes like a Creamsicle. I'm going to try one with a Le Carb Ice Cream to see how that works.
