Some Alaska Skagway White Pass Railway Canceled

Oh sad for those who wanted to do that excursion but driving the route is awesome! Using Murray's Guide to the South Klondike Highway drove to Emerald Lake. (Google for the guide which lists things to see/do by mile marker. Some of the places we stopped at along the way - Tutshi to see the Sled Dogs(puppies), Yukon Suspension Bridge, and the Welcome to Alaska highway sign.) Be sure to bring a passport for when you cross into Canada.

I think what’s been canceled is the continuation of the route Into Canada (about 75 miles). The US side will still be in operation.

The issue, apparently, is crossing the Canadian border.

I’m hoping that is the case but reading the article sounds like it’s all canceled.

Reading the article and the info posted on the railway’s own site makes it seem that it’s just the continuation into Canada that’s cancelled (At least how I’m reading it)

Looking directly at the White Pass & Yukon Railway website-- it looks like there are some excursions that will turn around at the US/Canadian border. And many of the other options that involved getting up to Fraser and Carcross are cancelled. https://wpyr.com/excursions/

Does NOT look like DCL has updated the excursions for Skagway yet. The one we were booked on (train up/bike down) has been canceled per the WPYR site, but is still on our plans under DCL.
Just FYI, in case people are trying to look at options. I would expect to see some changes on the DCL site soon (I hope).
I would not assume that if you see an excursion on the train up to the Fraser station on DCL that one should put on rose colored glasses and say "DCL didn't cancel it, so we're still going".... key word would be yet. Or they'll modify it.

I emailed Shoreside Concierge about the excursion we have booked with DCL, but haven't heard back. We do plan to utilize Chikoot Charters who reached out to us as soon as WPRR announced the route into Canada was being canceled. We decided to switch to their bus-only tour and will cancel our Disney excursion. At least it's saved me half the cost! Chilkoot Charters has been amazing to work with. They are quick to inform clients, answer questions, and have already processed our refund for the difference in price. I'm happy we can still support a small business that was greatly impacted over the past few years of the pandemic.

I just spoke with White Pass Railway and they are changing all their combined tours to be round trip summit trips with the other parts of your tour departing from the Skagway rail station and the continuing on with the other portion of your excursion. So for our White Pass Rail and Trail Camp they would run the train round trip and then we would board a bus up to the trail camp, do the trail camp stuff and then bus back to Skagway

Cross Border Tours – Service Suspended for 2022 Operating Season

After months of working towards restoring the Carcross and Fraser Train Service Combination, we unfortunately must announce that we are unable to provide these offerings for the 2022 Season. We have delayed this difficult decision for several months in the hopes that we could find a workable solution for all involved and provide passenger service on these international routes. The challenges of logistics, restrictions, and uncertainty around wait times would have made it impossible for us to provide a consistent high quality service without delays and would create significant disruption to the passenger experience.

We respect and appreciate the time and efforts of our communities, staff, partners, customers, and governmental agencies at all levels in both Canada and the United States over the last year to try to bring this to fruition. Though we could not complete the task in time for this season, we will continue to work together towards restoring this service for 2023.

For those booked on Fraser and Carcross train service this summer, our reservation staff will be reaching out to discuss your travel options and provide an alternative service on our White Pass Summit Excursion offering.

That's what we have booked for June 30th one of the pricey options. Wonder if it's still worth the value? Guess I will hold off an see how they adjust.
