So since we are driving home from DLR I thought I would make a few stops along the way just so I can say I ahve been there and get soem pictures. What do you think of Solvang I have always wanted to go.

Our Route home would be leave DLR then head to Solvang, Hearst Castle, Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park then Oakland(home). Any thoughts or suggestions.

It's a fun place to visit--shops, restaurants, bakeries, with a Danish theme. The pastries are delicious!!!

Hitching Post - the restaurant from the movie "Sideways" - is actually on the road from US101 to Solvang. It's a well known steak house - we had an anniversary dinner there some years ago.

I've also heard great things about Jocko's in Nipomo, which is north on 101 a bit. I'm told this is an even better steak house although the structure is "nothing to look at". Maybe it's a matter of where you are at dinner time.

Then there's the Madonna Inn, each room with a different theme:

Coincidence - the LA Times just had a review of Jocko's. Although the text is mostly favorable the reviewer gave it 1 1/2 stars. I've heard nothing but great stuff about it, and I'll go with that. It's just such a long way away, a 3-4 hour drive.
