My hair is so thick and coarse, it's grating my last nerve. I don't know what to do with it anymore. It probably falls at the bottom of my shoulder blades in the back. I have gone shorter but it just frizzes out so much that I look like Bozo the Clown. I've tried different shampoos, different conditioners, different "leave in" conditioners and nothing seems to be working. AARRGGHH!!!

For those of you who have to deal with this type of hair, what do you do? What do you use that helps?

My sister has hair like that and she stopped using shampoo. She "washes" her hair with just conditioner. She has been doing this for about 3 years. You could also look into a permanent relaxer or straightener.

Try experimenting with different leave in products, comb it through and then let your hair air dry. (If you haven't already)
I like potion number 9, also some of the things that say wax or putty work for me -but I have really super coarse, curly, frizzy hair.

Some people on the boards like morrocan oil.

Anyway try different ones -use a lot , comb it through while your hair is wet and see if that helps.

You can also experiment with some of the products of ethnic hair. I have done that before.

Good luck!

I have very very thick coarse hair. I have found over the years that if I go longer than just below my ears, it is terrible- stringy, impossible to manage. I need a cut with lots and lots of layers. Right now I have it shorter in the back. It is the easiest cut I've ever had, and still takes over 45 minutes to flat iron it completely. Also make sure that your stylist is thinning it. My mom has the same hair, and same cut as I do. She won't let them use the thinning shears, and by noon, looks like a q-tip.

Who is cutting your hair? I envy those that can go to those $15 hair cut places. I can never ever do that--I need someone who really knows how to cut. My DD are the same way. It's crappy paying $40 for a 10 Y.O. to get a haircut. DH thought it unnecessary, until he took our oldest to a cheap place. It was terrible. Also plan on a every 4 week cut. I hate it, but it's really the only way to keep things under control.

Good luck- I feel your pain.

ETA-- I have found that the straightening balms work really well. Hemp makes a nice one, and Avon has one that is fairly comparable(not quite as conditioning though) We finish off w/ shine spray.
