Solo Trip

I am headed to a conference in WDW at the end of the month. For the first few days I'll be solo - then dh flies in for the weekend. We are staying at BWI. Are there places nearby the BWI that you would recommend for dinner alone (sniff sniff)? I won't have park tickets for my solo time.

I eat solo at Flying Fish Cafe all the time, sometimes at the counter and other times at a table. The only places I don't care for when dining alone are character meals. I've had characters point at the empty seat across from me and make boo-hoo gestures. Rude.

Oh my goodness!! That is SO tacky about the characters!

I agree with the counter at FF....I ate there solo one night...I had a nice time!! I met an older gentleman also on his own, and we chatted...plus some of the staff also.

Last month I was at a conference for work and went to Disney in the evenings too, although I wasn't staying on-site. I didn't have an ADR one evening and I ate at Flying Fish. They didn't have any tables available, but they were able to seat me at the counter. It was nice because I could watch the chef do his magic. Another night I stopped at DTD and ate at House of Blues and it was really good. On the last day of my conference we were done at noon and I had an ADR at Kona for lunch and it was very enjoyable too.

Well, what's your budget? How much time do you have alone? Listen, I love my family and kids, and I love to be with them...but I also love me some time alone. So make the best of it!

If it were me, I would go eat at the Flying Fish and take a book. I've heard the food is great. Then I would walk around the boardwalk and check things out. You could look around the stores in DTD. The reason I asked about your budget is in case you might be interested in checking out the spa services available at Disney. If I were solo, that would be one of the ways I could definitely spend my time!

I've enjoyed food in the bar and at the restaurants themselves for Il Mulino and Todd English's bluezoo™ at the Swan/Dolphin resorts. Flying Fish is a good recommendation, too.

Thank you all for the suggestions. My company will pick up the bill (within reason) for my meals during the week, so I'm looking forward to not price hunting at DW. Good thought on the spa - is there one nearby BWI?

Dumb question - does flying fish have stuff other than (yuck) fish?
