I am thinking that I may want to do a solo trip to WDW. Talk me into it. :yay: My husband says that he wouldn't want me to go alone but I think it may be neat to do a 2 night get away. How is it for those of you who have done a solo trip? I'm scared that I would feel lonely and out of place. Do people look at you strange? I really didn't pay attention enough to see if people were alone or not. I just don't know if I could eat alone. :confused3

This September will be my 5th solo trip to the motherland.

I love it.............:goodvibes

You can do what you want and when you want, no waiting on anyone to get up, go to the bus stop, do a ride.......your time schedule is your own.

Eating solo at table service is not bad. You won't realize how many eat solo at some of the restaurants.
If you feel uncomfortable, take along a small book to read while at your table.

You can check out different dis meets for the time period you are going on your trip.
I have done that and made arrangements to meet up with other solo dis-ers for a meal and a ride throughout my trip.

I have never felt people were looking at me when I went to the park, restaurant, ride, bus, etc alone.
I have met many wonderful people on my trips while standing in line for a ride.

I really enjoy disney and the only way I was going to be able to take a trip was by going solo to it.

It is worth it to me.

I say go for it. I have never been to WDW solo. We were at diner one night at Cape May and there was a woman dining alone next to. Her husband was at a conference and she was traveling with him. She wanted to do the seafood buffet. One of the kids stuck up a conversation with her. I wouldn't be concerned with what others think. Go enjoy yourself.

dont even think anymore ... just DO IT! its a blast. i feel very safe or though of course you arent telling people youre alone. you can go where you want, when you want. just get on the first bus that comes to your hotel and GO! you wont regret it .. do everything you would normally do - character meals, rides, explore dtd ..ect.

YEp it is fun..no kids to slow you down, no one to wait on.. do what you want, when you want..

as far as dining alone.. don't even worry about it.. I saw a lady at Crystal Palace solo.. we took pictures with the characters for her.. and the severs and handlers where much nicer to her than to a family..

I have been solo and meet other DISers for meals.. or gone alone.. lots to do, lots of people to talk with..

if you feel unsure.. then join a DIS group.. ( check out the DIS ladies thread on the meets board) or just do counter service the first time..

I'm doing my first solo trip this year. I can talk to anyone so I'm not too worried about feeling lonely.
My advice is to don't be shy - chat with folks in line, chat with CM's, chat with folks while you are resting on a bench.

I'm going to bring my new hidden mickey book with me to look over while I eat TS. That way I can refresh my memory on where to look for hidden mickeys and I will have something to do besides stare at other peoples food to see if it looks better than what I ordered. :rotfl:

depends on your mindset. I'm a loner so I'm so used to being alone, so it's fun to me. If you can, see it as an opportunity to be WITH yourself instead of by yourself. Everyone should have alone time(many hours to days).

Do people look at you strange?
I'm so busy enjoying myself, I don't notice. If I did notice, I'd assume they're noticing the way I dress.:lmao: because it's not strange being on ones own. I enjoy myself more than 70% of the others. I've been to DL alone 30 times.

One thing DH actually likes about my solo trips is the "scouting" I do. Whenever he and I go together, I introduce him to either a restuarant or attraction that I found on a solo trip. It's less difficult to try new restuarants if there's just one person, then if you really like it, you and he can go back there.

Everyone needs to destress every once in awhile. There is no better place then Disney. You will feel like the biggest kid in the world. You wont have any kid to tie you down, you can eat what you want, go where you want, ride what you want, and have no one tell you or drag you back. I say DO IT! :thumbsup2

I totally agree with everyone that a solo trip to WDW is a great idea.

I've been on several solo trips. There are so many solo dining options that you can stay within your comfort zone (fast food and counter service) or do a more formal meal.

If you want to go solo, you should give it a try. A 2 night stay is a perfect test of how you like solo traveling. It's not for everyone, but I love it. It's freedom and self-indulgence, pure and simple.

Chances are, you'll be so busy doing things, you won't have time to be lonely. What you said about not paying attention to see if others were alone or not....everyone is like that. Therefore, 99% of people will not look at you strangely. They're too busy having fun and focusing on their own groups.

Yes, you can eat alone. I do it all the time. Just bring something to read, or write in a journal, or text someone back home while you wait for your food, or eat at a bar where you can chat with other people, or sit at a window where you can people-watch. It's important to keep yourself distracted during that wait time. Or just go the fast food/eat in your room route.

Do people look at you strange?

People don't look at you strange-they don't look at you at all unless you're Mickey, Minnie, etc. One of the reasons why I avoided Character meals for so long was that I felt people would stare at the person sitting by themselves. But then I realized they only want to see the characters and could care less about a solo person.

Going for my first trip ever in Sept and will be solo. I enjoy traveling alone I only have me to worry about. Went on vacation with a married couple who are friends last year. Long road trip to TN mountains. WILL NOT DO THAT AGAIN. To say we were barely speaking when we got back is putting it mildly. They wanted to go with me this year and I said emphatically NO!!!!!!!!!

i always go solo to wdw and disneyland. i was at wdw last week i did the coral reef, and prime time cafe. they did pick on me a little bit at prime time but love it anyway because i know what expect from the place. i had a great time weather was great nice and cool with little rain. go for it solo is great.

I will soon find out what its like to vacation solo.. I just booked my first solo trip today.. going for 3 nights/4 days from April 17th-20th..

Im choosing not to do any table service meals mainly because I had lapband surgery last year and can only eat a small amt of food.. I figured by eating at counter service I can regulate better how much food I buy..

I went to WDW for the first time in January with some friends. I'm happy to report that we are all still friends. However, I'm going back, with my AP, at the end of April - WDW does seem like the perfect place to go solo. So, not only am I still a newbie, I'm a solo newbie. And I can't wait! :thumbsup2

Yes you should go solo. You will actually find that you need more than 2 nights! My first solo trip was a BLAST, and I'm doing it again in June for my birthday. I did not feel lonely, nor out of place. Insted, I felt FREE! I got to do everything I wanted! No one looked at me strangely, and I had no problem eating alone. No one stared at me - I guess they were too busy enjoying each other, and their food!

Here's part of my trip report from my 1st solo trip:

Thoughts on Being Solo:

- It was great being able to walk at my own pace, stop when I wanted, and speed around when I wanted.

- I NEVER regretted my choice. After the very first HOUR of being in a park alone, I understood why so many do this. Like me, I KNOW there is someone out there thinking that I HAD to feel weird at some point. The ONLY time I did, was when I got on the shuttle bus for the first time to go to MK, and no one talked to me. Everyone was chatty with each other, but ignored me. I got over that quickly though, as soon as I started looking out the window, and thinking about getting to the park.

-Eating alone was fine. The times I ate alone were at buffets - I don't know if that makes a difference. When I started to eat, I was HUNGRY! I wasnt looking around to see who was looking at me, I was eating! Also, I was thinking about my day, and what I would do next. I never read, or took notes. I just sat there and ate. But you know what's weird? Last week while shopping, I got hungry and wanted to SIT DOWN to eat. So I went over to Uno's alone! That meal was WEIRD! Maybe it was because I wasnt in a spectacular place, surrounded by people in their everyday lives. I dont know how to explain it, but I was glad when I was done!

- I would definetly do it again! In fact, I think the first time I go back with someone will be a bit weird!

In Closing . . .

I really want to thank everyone again for reading and responding to my report. Anyone who has done this understand how much work goes into these reports. So when people ACTUALLY read it, it means alot! Also, thanks to all the DISers who spotted me, and came over to say hello. As a result, not a day went by that I didnt hear someone calling my name or waving at me. That made me feel at home, even though I wasn't!
