Hello all its my first solo trip and debating on whether to try car camping or rent a small camper but am nervous about rain and hurricane season any advice?? ?

I am going to the first two weeks in September in 2027 so I have some time but want to get my plans set My biggest worry if heavy rains hit and they ask to me to leave I would have nowhere to go for my trip.

For heavy rains, they don’t generally evacuate the Fort. If there were to be a hurricane, they would ask if you are able to safely make it home. If you tell them you are unable to make it home, they will move you to a resort to ride out the storm.

We were actually at the Fort for Hurricane Helene last year. The storm was in the gulf so it passed closer to our home than it did to the Fort. The Fort was not evacuated, we stayed in our camper, there were some pretty good winds and tree branches came down, but it wasn’t bad enough to be evacuated. Our home suffered some wind damage, but nothing major.

Well the first two weeks of Sept is peak hurricane season, so you never know. Any given year and all that. But if they evacuate and you have nowhere to go, they will put you in a hotel. The rental company would be responsible for the rental camper. The only way to not stress about hurricane season is to avoid it, but that's half the year.
