Solo TR – You’re staying where? First Solo Trip to the World.

I would vote for that ;)

I quite smoking since, but I found it almost imposible to locate the DSA when I was in Disney in 2009 and still a smoker. The one that baffled me was at OKW right at the entrance where everyone had to pass by to get to their rooms, I felt guilty sitting there smokeing when people with small children walked by.

It's always a challenge to find DSAs in the parks, especially since they change from year to year. When I remember a nice one, with benches (esp. at Epcot), the next time I come back, it's gone. I've tried quitting so many times, I don't know if you remember from the November thread last year, but I had quit for the entire month before our trip. And then I started again a couple of days before we arrived. Part of my problem is DH, and I can't blame him entirely for my failure to quit, but it makes it that much more difficult when he's still smoking up a storm, even when he "hides" from me out in the garage to have a cig. I'm just about ready to start again, I really hope that this time's the charm. Every time I think about how much we're spending on this nasty habit it makes me sick, not even mentioning the health risks. I've been hypnotized, patched, nicoretted, cold turkeyed and Chantixed, nothing works on me. I need a month at The Betty.

Not unless I want a divorce!!! :lmao::lmao::lmao: I have a very fun loving, Disney kid that I'm married to and could not go without him.

:goodvibes You're lucky then!

I'm afraid to take my DH back to WDW. I would think he was missing his "inner child" if not for the temper tantrums. :rotfl2:

AKL is on our 'to-do' list, as well as BC. DH said he REALLY wants to try AKL. My concern is transportation...DH doesn't mind the buses at all...I'm not a big fan...silly, I know. We spend so much time at MK because we have smaller children, so the monorail resorts are perfect...for now. Perhaps when the kids are older, I'll venture out;)

I'll be looking forward to another TR when you return from AKL!!

With small kids any MK resort makes more sense. :goodvibes I wouldn't be venturing out myself if the kids weren't older and a lot more portable. :goodvibes

Because AKL only offers bus transportation and we prefer anything else! And I really wanted to try it out, we only stayed 3 nights of an 11-night split. I thought just 3 nights was perfect. We were able to try all the restaurants and The Mara which were great and enjoy seeing the animals from our balcony.

We did one day at AK, one resort day and one day at TL which we always drive to anyway, so we only took the bus once. And, if you do the Sunrise Safari, you would only have to take the bus back from the AK since the van takes you there in the morning.

I like WDW bus service on the whole. I very rarely don't like it. :)

I love AKL. I love the food there, the pool, the greenery, and the whole African theme. :lovestruc

I finally got back to your TR and finished reading it. You certainly made going on a solo trip look inviting although I doubt it is in my future. I did in 2006 take a trip with a friend of mine who lives in Fla. I flew down and she drove to WDW and we met up and stayed at AKL. I fell in love with AKL and Bomas. Kidani was not open yet at the time.
I am dragging DH to Bomas during our October trip, since we were suppose to stay at AKL last November but had to cancel the trip.

I just know once he steps foot in the lobby we will be booking a new trip. (evil plan, I know )

I enjoyed all the photos and tales of your daily adventures. Thanks for shareing!

:goodvibes I think it's a great plan to get your DH to book another trip. :thumbsup2 Especially after a nice meal at Boma! Sneaky, but smart. :cool1:

When DH and I were there alone a couple of years ago, we met some of the nicest people while we were at the smoking area near the pool. It was nice being able to get a drink, sit at a table, and wait for my laundry to dry. I always feel guilty using the DSA across from the gift shop, wonder why they put it there anyway, because people with kids are always walking past right in front of the benches there. I feel like jumping up and down and pointing to the ashtray on top of the trash can. ;) What I really wish is that they'd ban little kids from the hot tub. </cranky old lady

Oh I hear you on the kids in the hot tub. :thumbsup2 It's my biggest pet peeve.

I don't like it either they put them right in a high traffic area. :headache:

I would vote for that ;)

I wasn't too thrilled about the one by the food court at POFQ either. The one by the front of Fulton's has to go - everyone going in walks right through the smoke.

When I "attempt" the Princess Half Marathon in February, AKL is one of the resorts we are considering. We are only going to be there a few nights, so this would work perfect. I probably need to go ahead and book something...that tends to be a busy weekend. I'm like you...not sure if I could do an entire week.

Karen, I want a full report on your AKL trip...give us tons of pics;)!! Maybe it will convince me on this resort:goodvibes

That's so cool that you're doing the Half! I'm very proud of you - that's such a really awesome thing to do! :goodvibes

You'll get a report - with pics of my AKL trip. I take a lot of pictures there. :)

For me the only thing that worked was the patch - but I had to ignore the directions. ;) I used one at night - the night I quit, and then slapped another one on in the morning. I did that until I'd gradually step down on my own. It took me three months on two patches, but I stayed a non smoker for 11 months until my Mom passed away. I haven't had much success since, but every now and then I try to quit again. One of these days it will stick.

It will for you too! :thumbsup2

I only used the patch once and that was quite a few years ago, maybe I'll give it a try again. Chantix worked well for me, I was having bizzaro-world dreams though, not nightmares but strange, elaborate dreams. Last year I actually quit right before my Mom died, but then a little over a month later we went to WDW and that was that.

Sorry to be jabbering so much about smoking...this is your trip report. :flower3:

No worries. :goodvibes Part of a trip for me is the smoking. Where to smoke and where not to smoke fits into my resort choice and into my touring plans for each park. :) It's also good for me to have the areas with DSA's written down in my TR so I can go back and look at them if someone on the DSA thread asks a question about them. :thumbsup2

I'm sorry for your loss. I know how tough it is to lose a Mom.

Before I forget - I heard something really funny in the park my last morning.

A guy and his family walked up to the CM's outside of POTC to ask a question.

Man: "Is this a boat ride?"

CM: "It's exactly like a boat ride"

Man: "Well are there boats on this ride"

CM: "Yes, there are boats on this boat ride"

I walked away laughing my butt off. :rotfl:
