So i "plan" on booking my Nov Thanksgiving trip to the world, at POP for my solo trip. Got me thinking( i have yet to put down my deposit) should i up grade to a MOD, more spcefic POR river side. I have stay at both, pop a few times and POR once. I will be my self so I was thinking maybe a Mod would be better. Now i really, really love POP, the kids, the noise dont bother me so that is not the issue. I am more thinking of time at the resort, pool and MOD does have hot tub. Going solo for the frist time i dont know how much time i will spend at the resort. So i thought i throw this out there.

I have done POR solo several times, and have done one all resorts, no parks trip a few years ago. I always go the week after Thanksgiving.

The advantage of POR is you can go to a resort and have dinner, take the DTD bus directly from that resort, and then take the water taxi back to POR. The water taxi runs every ten minutes after 4:00 pm, so you never have to wait long at the dock. It is a very nice way of getting more done, without having to go all the way back to a park to transfer to a resort bus; remember how late each parks are open, etc.

solo at POR is the way Id go.
The boat to DTD is at your fingertips..shops restaurants, movies, etc etc etc. at POR there is a great shop to walk around in, the inside bar area also has a wonderful seating area to people watch, mingle, etc, you can get a coffee at the bar by the way, great staff there, and its a social atmosphere, awesome food court area, good restaurant on premise, KWIM,
great way to meet people when Piano Bob is there especially. The QUIET pools, the main pool, the walkways are just lovely especially in evening when all lit up.. and the entire atmosphere IMHO is so worth the mod price.
Have a wonderful time wherever you choose! PIXIE dust to you pixiedust:

I also am doing my first solo trip in October. I have not stayed at either of these resorts but I picked POP because I hear they have their own buses, the food court is good and the price. At first I did not like the look of it (as a poster stated it looks like a concrete jungle) BUT then I realized if I requested a room facing the lake I could also get the pretty scenery I love. I also picked the 50's section. Am thinking the bowling pin pool would be less crowded than the main pool. I called yesterday and tweeked the room section I would like. It looks to be very close to the lake with a great view. I am picturing stepping out of my room and relaxing on a bench (if they have) overlooking the lake by that bridge connecting to the new Art of Animation resort. I hope the picture I have in my head is correct! Either resort, Have a GREAT TIME!!!

I would pick POR if I was you! The additional transportation options will be nice! :goodvibes

I stayed in a studio at BCV for my solo trip on rented points. It was as reasonably priced as a moderate, but was walking distance to Epcot and DHS. Just throwing that out there for your consideration.

Stayed @ POR for a solo birthday trip this year. It was great!!! Going to do it again next year!!! :woohoo:

I debated the same thing actually. I am doing my first solo trip this October, and decided on POP ($ being a big factor), also i had a PIN, and POP preferred was available for around $80/night (with PIN). And all that POR had available were the royal rooms, which doesn't make sense for me to pay the extra $ for those since it's just me. That being said, POR might be my favorite resort i've stayed at so far, great QS options, staff, and we've never had any transportation problems before. The boat to DTD is a plus too!
This being my first solo trip, im not sure how much time i'll spend in the room, and for me, a think a value (cost, space) will be just fine. I've stayed there before (3 times) and everything was always great. If you can spring for POR, i'd say go for it, if not, you'll have a great time at POP too, expecially now they have fridge's and WiFi! Good luck deciding

How about a split stay? When you will be hitting the parks stay at POP, then have a leisurely stay at POR with the hot tub. It's also a lot of fun to rent one of the Sea Raycers from there and go by the tree houses, SSR, OKW, and DTD.

Have fun!

If I was going solo, I would definitely go with POR. The atmosphere is more relaxing than at POP, in my opinion. You can take a nice stroll to POFQ or take a nice relaxing cruise to DTD.

I have had a solo trip at POP and have also stayed at POR. I had a very quiet location in the 90's section at POP and I thought the quality of the room was very good. I rarely had anyone going by my door and wasn't too far from the buses. I used the pool and the laundry room. Sometimes the pool was pretty crowded and there was no hot tub.

My thoughts on it all - I really enjoyed my solo trip at POP and would do it again however I do really like a little bit more luxury. SO if you are looking for a little more luxury I'd go with POR. I think I may be a deluxe girl at heart here - leaving for AKL in a few days - LOL. Have a great trip whatever you decide!
