When you travel solo do you stay solo? Has anyone here met someone on the boards to share a room with? I am planning a quick solo trip in October and just thought it would be great to save some money on the room and I was wondering if anyone else had experience with this sort of thing?? Thanks!

I've never met anyone off the DIS Boards, but I have done something similar.

When I was living outside Paris I posted on a travel partners wanted board at RickSteves.com. I was looking for people coming through Paris for a weekend who wanted to do things to together and/or share a hotel room.
A guy answered my ad and I ended up meeting him one weekend and sharing a hotel room another. We stayed friends and kept in touch for 4 years, hoping to again travel together. Last December we finally met up again and traveled around Italy for 2 weeks.

This coming December, he's joining me at Disney for a week! I was so surprised he wanted to come. Europe is usually our 'thing', but I just couldn't afford to go overseas again so soon. But living 4 hours from Disney, I can swing a road trip. It will be his 2nd trip, but his first one was more than 15 years ago, so I'm the planner guru on this one! :cool2:

So I think it's a great idea if you can find someone you enjoying spending time with!

Anyone for sharing a value room March 8 - 12 or 13th, 2010? Spring Break! :woohoo:

Okay, my story. . .

I decided to join a bunch of single Dissers from here for their May 2008 get together. I planned to go solo cause heck "what if I don't like them or they don't like me?" I was chatting with a couple of them on line so one of them decides he wants to come. I offer up my spare bed at Pop. He was a great roomie cause we are both neat freaks and germaphobes. . .it was awesome.

Then I took a chance and invited another disser to join me on my September trip. He was also a great roomie and we had TONS of fun cause we tour the parks very similar. . .(i.e. early risers, rope drop, etc. . .) That was an awesome trip. Made a great friend that trip. . .met up with that friend again in December. This past May (2nd annual trip for this group) I stayed solo for most of the trip. . .did have a crasher towards the end, no biggie cause he is a friend.

I have met mostly GREAT people here on the boards. . .I post my dates or join along when others that I know are going. I have had the greatest times and met the best of friends because I decided to risk it and take a chance. . .

I cannot even imagine sharing my bedroom with a stranger....or most friends  Life is too short to have to do that!

When I travel it's either us as a couple or me as a solo - even cruising I'll pay the extra because I'm not having some other person in my room. Not gonna happen!

Count me in as one who has met many DISers, hung with them in their city or mine plus WDW.. have had a great experience every time.. no I wouldn't hestitate to room or hang with DISers again..

I'm of two minds.

I had thought about seeing if anyone on the DIS wanted to go halfsies at a deluxe resort (cause it would make it much more affordable for me).

On the other hand, what if you end up with a roommate who snores? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I've met lots of Dissers as well. Last May, I met someone who lives about 20 minutes from me who became a good friend, and we've traveled together to Disney twice now, sharing our DVC points. We still both do our solo trips because we actually enjoy them. When we travel together, we don't feel like we have to be joined at the hip, so it's the best of both worlds :goodvibes I wouldn't hesitate to share a room with several of the wonderful Dissers I've met!

Yeah, I go solo - but keep in mind that if budget is a concern (and when is it not?) Kissimmee has some of the best lodging deals on the planet.

I get the Disney Resort deals as a Florida Resident with an Annual Pass, but when they are sold out or too pricey I have no hesitation in staying at a HWY 192 deal du jour. Public transport is great all up and down 192, there's some pretty hilarious kitschy shop action and it's just a bed. If you have clean sheet paranoia, pack a sleeping bag or at least your own sheets. Haven't checked the Hostel situation, but it would seem a prime locale.

If you want to pay $39/night, it's usually available. Start with Travelocity, checking the Kissimmee area. The Clarion Maingate at 7675 West Irlo Bronson Hwy (192), Kissimmee, FL 34747 is a safe bet. Sometimes if you call them directly instead of booking online you get rooms when they are listed as sold out. The restaurant, Crabby Bill's, has a raw oyster special that's hard to beat.

And that would be me which is why I wouldn't share a room.

Oh gosh - me too! I hate to think of the trips for work that I passed up because we had to double up in the rooms and I didn't want to because of snoring.:confused3 Then the annual conference was being held in DC, which I have always wanted to go to, so I bit the bullet and signed up to go - but I also struck conversations with the other gals from work that were going, found a fellow snorer and that's who I roomed with! The next year the trip was to Disney and heck yeah I was going! My snoring roomie didn't go that year so I was with 2 others in a suite - I volunteered for the pull-out sofa in the living area and let them have the two beds.....and I shut their door :rolleyes1

HWY 192 - towards Kissimmee RIGHT NOW - HAS TONS AND TONS OF HOTELS for as LOW as $18 a single person per night. Those are near the WalMart, but hotels near the park on 192 are around $25 per person.
I suppose it's all on what you want to spend.

Until mid Nov. you can aslo get some deals on priceline bidding - but make sure not to bid on something too far away as the traffic will kill your day.

As far as not being able to sleep - after spending 12-15 hours at the park, plus transportation/walking travel time. Getting ready etc. - You'll be able to sleep no problem anyway - so anywhere will do.
