I'm getting really nervous about my first solo flight. My DH or DD that usually make the trip with me actually hold my hand during take-off and landing. Silly I know but somehow reassuring. I have a history of panic attacks so I do have medication to take for the flight. But I'm still obsessing over what "could" happen, worst case senario. I've actually been to the ER for a panic attack with a BP of 180/100 so I know what the "worst" is (for me).

Any advice, reassurance from fellow sufferers and/or Disney obsessives would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if this would help but how about give yourself lots of tlc - little treats for the journey - favorite books, music, snacks - how about something to hold or squeeze on takeoff and landing since you can't hold a hand?

How about closing your eyes during take off & invisioning what could happen best case scenerio. You're surrounded by your family, try to feel your daughter's hand in yours, feel your husband's reasuring hand on your shoulder, invision a beautiful, clear, and sunny day...the view out your window breathtakingly gorgeous.

I too am nervous flyer and I completely understand what you are feeling. Logically, I know that I have a greater chance of something happening to me on the way to the airport than on the plane. However, it all goes out the window when I get to the airport. When I get on the plane I try to close my eyes and imagine the one I love holding my hand. Then once we are up, i pick a point (say a cloud, a spot on the ground, whatever) and count until we pass it. Then I pick another one. And do this for the entire flight. It gives me something to focus on and I tell myself, I am that much closer to getting to the happiest place on earth. Silly, I know, but it works for me. Good luck!

Sit next to a child if you can. I remember on my first solo trip, it was my first air flight since I'd gotten very air sick, so I was VERY nervous. But somehow I had a little kid sitting next to me, and I kept thinking "There's no way I'm going to embarrass myself in front of a little kid!" I figured I had to act like the grown-up I supposedly was. It worked very well.

Ahhh, I still remember my first solo flight. We landed at the airstrip and my instructor told me to pull up at the clubhouse. I dropped him off and he gave me the instructions to head on out for one more circuit. When I landed, they had a nice 'Solo Certificate' for me. So nice to get away.

Oops, wrong solo?

hehehehe :lmao:Nice way to add a little levity. ;)

I printed out several pages of the Disney Shameful Secret thread and read them on take off and landing...! Coming home I secretly cried that no one was with me :sad2: you will be fine! your going to DISNEY! :lovestruc

Ipod with your headphones in and turned up your fave music. I saves you hearing all the airplane noises and if you can watch the Flight Attendants during take off. They are always smiling and relaxed because they know how safe it is. The thing I always think off is, if the flight attendants look worried then you probably should too :rotfl2:

Anyways try get a seat near where they sit during takeoff, (usually near the door) and just watch them with your ipod turned up. As soon as they offer drink after take off grab a bourbon or something like that.:thumbsup2

I fly solo often and still get a little nervous :)! My iPod has really helped, as has watching the flight attendants. If there's a tv screen built into the seat in front of you, maybe watch that. I also found chewing gum helped too.
