Solo DVC?

DVC for a solo DISer? What do you think? Discuss please, I need some insights. My issues are...I hope to use it with a family years down the line and be able to invite friends now, I only like CBR so I'd rather not stay at whatever is my "home" resort, I'm not all that well off(I spend most of the year saving for my yearly trip. What do you think...is it worth it for me? Who of you Solo's have DVC? Should I move this to the DVC board?

Yes -- posting (and reading a lot) on the DVC board would be helpful. Not sure your question is totally clear. If you only like CBR, why would you consider DVC? A single person could certainly get lots of enjoyment out of DVC, but only if staying at DVC resorts, really. It is a luxury purchase (not at all an investment -- it is a purchase of a higher quality vacation experience, with a commitment of many years with annual fees, beyond the initial cost). It takes a lot of points to go at prime seasons, and stay for several days (and staying in non-DVC properties can take even more points).

The usual advice is "buy where you want to stay" and "only if you will be going to WDW every year or every other year" (it's not cost-efficient if staying in other types of accommodations works for you).

I am a solo traveler and DVC member. It depends on your financial situation and travel habits. I don't think it's a particularly good value unless you actually want to stay at DVC resorts (so it probably wouldn't be prudent if you just wanted to stay at CBR). And while there is flexibiity to trade out to non-Disney locations through RCI, I still believe the best value (and it is a very good value) is for those who want to travel to WDW on a regular basis. If your financial situation is shaky at present, that again would be reason to at least hold off for the time being. If you're just not sure about the DVC resorts, you might try renting points (you can probably get something for about the same price as you would pay to stay at CBR) through the rent/trade board.

Thank you guys. I pretty much knew the answer to my own question. I like the idea of having a DVC membership. But when i try to stray from CBR in my imagination, well I just can't do it. Don't ask me why...I've checked out other resorts...CBR just feels like home to me. So you are probably right, it just wouldn't make sense for me. I just needed some experts to tell me that !

I'm another DVC member (for 12 years now) who does many solo trips. I bought it as a single mom with 1 son. Now my son is 22 and there's a significant other. We do trips as a couple, but since his work take him out of state (& sometimes out of the country) for a good portion of the year, I do solo trips. Before we got together, I did mostly solo trips.

DVC makes just as much sense for a solo as it does for a family. What matters is that you can afford it and you'll make good use of it. If that's true, don't let being a solo stop you!

Poting on the DVC board would be a good idea. I know of several single DVCers. Although I'm not single, I take at least one or two solo trips to WDW every year, and stay at a DVC. I think a studio is perfect for a solo. As Samantha Brown says, you have your own little homestead-it feels like your little private apartment. And surprisingly, I love that maid service doesn't come in every day-that way I have the security of knowing that my room won't be entered daily when I'm not there, nor am I likely to be surprised while I'm getting dressed. The DVC resort I stay at (BCV) is one that DH and I don't stay at when were together, so the points there are like "my" points, so in a way I'm a single DVC owner, at least there!

I waivered about this decision, too. I finally decided that for the amount of the initial purchase plus the yearly fee, I could stay at POFQ or WL a LOT of times!!!!! I do usually go once per year, but I just did not think it made financial sense for me.

I read somewhere that it might make sense if you did not have to finance the initial cost, were able to just pay it outright. Not the case for me!

But a lot of folks are very happy DVC owners, so it just depends on your situation.
