solo Disney Cruise

I am planning on taking a solo cruise next spring and was wondering if anyone has done this and if they could tell me how it went. I have found that I have reached the age that if I don't do it now I never will. I just can't wait for the time and money to be right for my family. I love travel and I like doing what I want when I want but I really don't like feeling alone. That is why I think a cruise would be better then the parks. I hope I am making sence. I just found this thread but didn't see anything about cruising.

I haven't taken a solo cruise yet, but I'm booked for one in December--sort of. I've been to the parks solo, and had a blast. I've wanted to do a cruise, but could never find anyone to go with me. When I heard that they were doing another podcast cruise, I figured it would be a great way to cruise solo. The biggest drawback for me in cruising solo would be sitting at dinner with a bunch of strangers who might think I was nuts for cruising alone. But since I'm going on the podcast cruise, I'll be with other DISers who (hopefully) will understand and we'll have something in common. So while I'll have a cabin to myself, I'll be cruising with about 700 instant friends. The best of both worlds, IMO. I'm really looking forward to it.

They may still have cabins available if you're interested, and the group rate brought the price down enough for me to justify paying the single supplement.

Ok don't flame me. What is a podcast curise (what is podcast) you have here a teckno illiterate. I don't even know how to use my phone except to answer it once in a while. The only reason I have been able to post is because my daughter stood over me made sure I did it right multiple times. I use a computer at work but if it is not something I do repeatdly I am lost. Since I am going on a cruise in Sept with my DD I probably wouldn't be aable to make another so soon (however it is very tempting), and I would love to have another excuse to take off work. Anyway I really love cruising and want to do more Disney prices do not seam to be too bad for a single cruiser and that is good. Now if I could only get a better airfair or get Disney to start doing cruises out of Galveston Iwould be all set.

I'll try to explain, but let me know if you have questions. A podcast is what I call an internet radio show. It can be on any topic you might be interested in. The guys that started this site also host a podcast about all things Disney. You can find it here: http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-podcast/, which is the page for the podcast. Click on "listen now" and you will have another small page open up which will play any of the podcasts that they've done, starting with the most recent. I really enjoy listening to them. They give information on Disney news, upcoming changes, restaurant reviews, and even some rumors that they've heard.

There's a group of people that listen to the podcast regularly and participate on the podcast discussion board (http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=158). Last year, the guys that own the site, do the podcast, and own Dreams Unlimited Travel (generally the same group, but not every person is directly involved in each of the different businesses) decided to host a cruise open to anyone, but with special events for their group. I believe they had 300+ people attend and had so much fun they've decided to do it again. The next cruise is December 12-16, 2010. There is a special discussion board just for that cruise here: http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=174. So far there are over 700 people signed up and they have already announced some of the special guests that will be joining us.

Edited: Just to clarify...there will be other people besides those that have signed up through Dreams Unlimited Travel on the cruise. But if you want to participate in the special events you have to go through them.

I've also considered solo cruising. That's because I'd love to do a DIsney cruise and I'm retired (so "now or never", as a PP implied). However, DH's still working and has negative desire to take a cruise (like, "No way!") But isn't solo cruising expensive? Thanks for the info on the quote, aggielawyer, that might be the best way to have my thoughts that solo cruising is expensive verified or proven false. I've taken so many solo trips to WDW, I have no hesitation about a solo cruise.

Rats! I just clicked the link to Dreams Unlimited, and the info they give for the cruise starts with a quote for 2 persons. Looks like they're not set up for solos on cruises.

Go ahead and request a quote, just put one person's info in the form. I used that quote link when I booked my cruise. Now, from what I understand, when you book Disney cruises the earlier you book the better deal you will get, so please don't expect to get the same rate, but I booked a Cat 12 (the lowest possible, I really don't care about my room as long as it is on the ship), my cost was about $850+/-. This is just the cruise, and doesn't include any excursions, tips, etc. I figure that the single cost is about 75% of the price for two people.

I also asked this very question whether anyone had cruised solo...this was about three years ago. I am now going on my 5th solo cruise in Oct!!! My 1st cruise was the WBPC in 08 and my most recent the EBTA. I have had great experiences and met some great people from these boards
