Solo Deluxe Dining, Apr 30 - May 7, w/pics!

Thanks for the great reviews. I'll be at Yak and Yeti in July and I am encouraged by your review as there have been a few not-so-glowing reviews of it. I was set on getting the fried green beans as my app but those lettuce cups look darn tasty...

I just started reading your reviews, and they are AWESOME! The pictures are great, too. Can't wait for more!

Someday I want to take a solo trip so that I can do--and eat--everything I want. :rotfl2:

Marica... so enjoying your reports-- I am going to be at the WL and we are going to WCC cafe our 1st night. But ds is a chicken fingers only boy so I was wondering about having the skillet alone. SO glad you had it (and didn't feel self conscious?- maybe just me)...
DO you think I could take the leftovers w me (as my room and refridge is right upstairs??)

I have been reading your reviews as ds will only eat chicken fingers so I am trying all these places I have always wanted to go to...dh is a picky eater and isn't going this trip-- so we are trying boma, kona, ohana's-- morocco too maybe? told ds (11) I am using him to get to these places
Jill

i'm sure you could get the leftovers boxed up, that would work well with you staying at WL.

i want to dive into that vanilla milkshake with the whipped cream....

oh yeah it was good!

Great updates, Marcia!:thumbsup2

First question - I haven't done a breakfast ADR in a few years; are they all serving some sort of Krispy Kreme product? I've seen donut holes AND donuts - YUM!

That's stinks about WCC! The whole point of that place is the entertainment! Sorry you didn't get to experience it!

Can't wait for the next review!

the only place i saw the krispy kremes was Tusker House

Great update as usual Marsh! I'm thinking about WCC but not sure, the shrimp look yummy as did the dessert!! Bananas are my fav. also!!

give it a try if you get a chance, they were good

Thanks for posting the pictures of your food. Your reviews were helpful since I am planning my ADRs for January.

you're welcome :)

You make me want to try and get a ressie at Yak n Yeti! That looks right up my alley! Yum!

Sorry WCC wasn't all you hoped. We didn't love it when we were there either.
We had a bit of the antics but for us the night we were there the food wasn't so hot.

Allyson :)

i know Y&Y gets some bad reviews, but definitely check it out

I sure am enjoying your reviews. There is so much food. Usually I get hungry when I look at these but with yours all I can think is "How does such a small person eat all of that?". I know that you didn't finish a lot of it. The chicken app for Yak & Yeti looked like it was big enough for a meal for two. Looked yummy too!

yeah i know, i definitely didn't eat it all! way too much food!

WOW!!! Wonderful reviews!! I hope that when DH and I go this New Year we have just as good a review as you!:worship:

We treated ourselves and got the PREMIUM DINING PLAN!! (It is our Christmas present to each other.:rotfl: )

Reading your reviews makes me so hungry!! Keep up the great review!:hyper:

premium, that's awesome! hope you have a great time!

I am so glad to see pictures of this dish. Are you a pho fan? When made properly, it is one of my favorites. Is this one authenic? Does it have a star anise flavor? They got the garnishes right, so I'm hoping the pho flavor is correct too. I can't wait to try it!!!! Thanks!!!!

i've actually never had pho before that, so i don't know, i'm sorry!

This is probably off topic (Sorry Marcia! PS--I love your reviews!), but... is Pho made from chicken or beef broth? I am a pescetarian and would so eat this if it were made from some sort of fish or even vegetable and lemongrass stock--yum!

sorry, i have no clue

Pho is traditionally made with beef stock, but who knows how yak n yeti make it.

yeah, i don't know

Can't wait to see what you had at 50's Prime time, I will be there in July! Thanks for all the food porn.

it's coming soon! you're welcome

Oh great reviews! Thanks!

thanks :)

yeah, this is the second time i've eaten here. first time, i wasn't thrilled, but decided to give it another try. i like it just fine, and i needed a place to eat.

I just started reading your reviews, and they are AWESOME! The pictures are great, too. Can't wait for more!

go for it, it's so much fun!

50's Prime Time Cafe, lunch, 05.04.08

Ah, 50's PTC. I have such a love in my heart for this place. Me and my mom ate here 3, yes 3, times when we did our first onsite trip last August. And it was all because of our waiter. I've been back at least 5 times since, and he hasn't been there any other time! It's getting frustrating, as I don't think anyone can live up to his standards. Anyway, that's just so that you know I have very high expectations for this place.

My ADR was for 12:30pm, but I had accomplished what I wanted to at MGM earlier than expected. So I showed up at 11:40, and was seated right away. Off course, I requested my waiter, but he wasn't there :( . Oh well, I'd survive. I was seated at a 2 top right between a 4 top and another 2 top. I made fast friends with my cousins around me, and was encouraged to do so by my server Carole.

I know the drill here, so I set my table asap. Kinda funny, Carole walks by and tells me to set the table, she didn't even notice right away that I already did it :lmao: . I was like "Done!" She was impressed with me right away :thumbsup2 . She informed me that my choices for drinks included milkshakes, and I was thrilled, as I've always wanted to try the PBJ milkshake. So I went for it!

Looked just like vanilla, but tasted all nice and peanut-buttery. Yum! I know it sounds weird, but it really is a good thing.

I knew what I wanted for my appetizer, the fried herb cheese, of course. I love this appy. I've had it many times, and will continue to have it in the future.

dis2008-05495.jpg

Love shmearing that cheese all over that crusty bread, and munch munch munch! It's so yummy, a tangy wonderfully spreadable cheese :lovestruc . I also love the grapes and strawberries that come with it.

I was having big trouble figuring out what I wanted for my main meal. I almost always order the vegetarian stuffed pepper or if not, I get the stacked sandwich, but since I was also having a milkshake (no, didn't finish it!), appy, AND dessert to come, I wanted to switch it up. Figured the chicken ceasar salad was a good, light choice.

This was funny though, as I didn't really want the ceasar dressing. I asked if there were any other choices. She said no, no other choices. Then she changed her mind and told me I could have ranch or ceasar. Now, I know they also have another dressing, since I've had it on the side salad before. So I was like, are you sure there's no other choices? Then she was like, okay, well, we only have the ceasar, ranch, or house citrus (i think it was citrus of some sort anyway). This was actually a pretty humorous exchange, and my cousins next to me were paying attention too. It was like, well, no, you only have one choice. Or wait, maybe two. Oh, just kidding! Three choices! Maybe you had to be there, but I was like, what? Hehe. Anyway, I went with the citrus one, on the side please!

dis2008-05498.jpg

I was told that to join the clean plate club, I only needed to finish the chicken, and that the lettuce didn't count. Well, I finished off that lettuce too! Just not the croutons. Twas a good salad, hit the spot. But I don't really like croutons. I was cheered by all of my cousins around the restaurant when Carole announced that I had cleared my plate. Yay me!

After all of this clean plate club talk, you'd think that must be the end of the meal. Oh no, not me. I still had dessert to come! Now, I've had the smores before, and absolutely LOVE them (hmm...i absolutely LOVE lots of stuff at 50's don't i now? ;) ). But I decided to switch it up, once again! I got to look through the handy viewfinder to pick my dessert. Funny, with all the times I've been here, this was the first time I got the viewfinder!

dis2008-05496.jpg

I inquired as to what the cobbler was. When I was told it was apple, I was all over it. And would I like vanilla ice cream with that? Of course! Bring it on!

dis2008-05499.jpg

Yummy, warm, gooey, couldn't have asked for more! Nice crumbles on top too. And cold ice cream. Melty, delicious goodness.

Oh yes, I asked if coffee was included with the Deluxe Plan, and Carole told me it wasn't. But she let me have it anyway. It didn't come until after I was done with my dessert though, so she put it in a to-go cup for me. Well, I walked back out into the heat and immediately dumped it. Ah well.

Anyway, the food was great. Service was fine. But remember, no one can live up to my standards here. Will I be back? Of course! We have 2 ADRs planned for our family trip this August :yay: . And we're crossing our fingers that our waiter will be there!

next up: dinner at Flying Fish...but will I make it??

How did I miss this review??

Great pics! Looking forward to Flying Fish (if you make it ;)) since that's a new one for us this year!

I love 50s Prime Time! Always get the Fried Chicken (hey - it's vacation!); must admit though, that chicken caesar salad looked tasty!

Hope you make it to FF! I need just a little more convincing to eat there!

:thumbsup2 Wow, I've been away for awhile and had a lot of catching up to do :confused3 . Love the pics and reviews. We are going to Y&Y for lunch in October. I know we'll be having the lettuce cups for an appetizer.

The FPT is one of our favorite lunch stops. Hate to admit it, but I always get my clean plate sticker.

Thanks for the review and pics. Super report

The Ceaser salad at 50's looks delicious and how funny about the dressing :rotfl2:

Flying Fish Cafe, dinner, 05.04.08

Okay, so since I gave you a little suspense, I may as well let you know *why* I almost didn't get to eat at Flying Fish! Well, I was hanging out at the Tune In Lounge, ooh, I have pictures of the drinks!

dis2008-05505.jpg

I don't remember, one of them I think was Picnic Punch. Anyway, I was talking to the bartender, David, and he was telling me how he got to ride the new Toy Story Ride the day before, since it was CM opening that weekend. Just so happened that a friend of his, another CM, came in about that time, and said she was going over to the ride. So David suggested that she take me with her! How amazing is that??? I know this is my food report, but too bad, this impacted my food, so it's relevant...right? ;)

Anyway, I will write all about it in my regular trip report, but suffice to say, I knew there was no way I was going to make it on time for my ADR. I don't even remember what time it was supposed to be at, but I did try calling Disney Dining to get a later ADR, but nothing was available. So I pressed my luck and showed up way late. They told me I'd have to wait a while for a table, or I could sit at the bar. Bar works for me!

I started off with a cocktail of some sort. I have no idea why, but I didn't write down the name of it. Whoops!
dis2008-05531.jpg

It was really good. If I remember correctly, I ordered another one later :thumbsup2

Next up was the bread and butter
dis2008-05532.jpg

It was nice and crusty, just like I like it. I only tried a bit though, since I had lots of food to come!

I asked my bartender/waitress what she suggested for appetizer, since I was stuck between a few of the choices. She said that the crab cake was their specialty, and that that was her suggestion. So I went for it.
dis2008-05533.jpg

Allears describes it as Crisp Jonah Lump Crab Cake - savory vegetable slaw, pea tendrils, roasted red pepper coulis, ancho chili remoulade. Oh it was delicious! Mostly crab, barely any filler/cake. The sauce was a nice complement.

Between courses, I had some time to sit back and enjoy the atmosphere. It's really nice in there.
dis2008-05534.jpg

Then it was time for my main course, and I ordered the Scallops. It's not the description that's on allears, though. It was over a pea risotto. I was told that the scallops would be done medium, and asked if that was okay. Sure, I have no idea how they should be cooked, whatever the chef suggests works for me!
dis2008-05536.jpg

Glad I listened to that suggestion! They were cooked perfectly. I've never really noticed how well done scallops were before this, but now I have an idea of how they should be. Nice and tender. The scallops, I ate those all up. But alas, I barely made a dent in the risotto.

Dessert was still to come! I tried to order the sugar free cheesecake I think, but I was advised against it. She suggested I try the Study in Strawberries. They must change the menu often, since allears has an apple study dessert, and I don't recognize much of what's on there. Oh, and I got my coffee here, no problem whatsoever.
dis2008-05537.jpg

dis2008-05540.jpg

On the left was a sort of shortcake, the middle was a custard w/strawberries in a light wrapper, and on the right I think was a mousse. I could be wrong, as I didn't write it down. I only managed a bite of each, but they were really good. I especially liked the one in the middle. Good stuff :thumbsup2

I must say, my bartender/waitress was really good. She was very attentive, made sure everything came out okay, that I was enjoying everything, etc. Ah, I have a better pic of her, and her name was Lorna. Definitely a gem.
dis2008-05538.jpg

I really really really enjoyed my meal at Flying Fish. Everything was perfect. Maybe I was still on a high from Toy Story Mania :rolleyes1 , or the fact that I was about to head to evening EMH at MK, but I don't think so. I think this place really is as good as I've always heard. So glad I chanced it and went late, it was definitely worth it!

next up: lunch @ Tutto Italia

Wow! So one of the CM's took you on Toy Story Mania? That must have been awesome!

You're description of Flying Fish is great! I am going to have to add it to my list for one of my up-coming trips.

Yummy!! I LOVE 50s PRIME TIME!! Yes, the fried cheese is my fav. too!! I need to try the PB&J shake next time I go!:hyper:

I love your review of Flying Fish....and I am jealous too! Scallops AND Toy Story Mania???!!! Wow, that is SO COOL! I live near DL and waiting patiently for ours to start doing openings!

Keep up the GREAT reviews!:worship:

Congrats on getting on Toy Story Mania! DD and I are heading there first thing at Rope Drop when we go in June.

Regarding FF: got to say, that scallop dish DID NOT look appealing to me! I love scallops but that pea risotto would have to go!:scared:

MMMMMMMMM...nothing better than Scallops cooked the way they are supposed to be cooked. You ordered exactly what I'm planning on ordering in July.
