Has anyone attended a sold out Christmas Party? Just curious if you felt like it was worth it. I've never been to the Xmas party (have attended the Halloween party) I am taking my MIL and FIL who absolutely love Christmas. But - I'm worried with all of these reports about how terrible the sold out Halloween parties have been.... I don't know how well my FIL will handle painful crowds. He has never been to WDW. The date isn't yet sold out but based on historical data, I imagine it will.

Thanks in advance!

Last year we attended a sold out Christmas Party. It was more crowded than previous parties & not as fun for us. The parade was insane, especially. We are going again this year to the party but I really don't want to see the parade because of last year's experience. It was so uncomfortable.

I did not enjoy. Main Street was PACKED. 45 min wait for a drink at CS. Close to 40 min in line at Cosmic Rays, then could not find a seat anywhere. Waits for "The Mountains" were 30-40 minutes. I gave up on the parade....

In 2013 we went to the first party and it was sold out. Honestly it was not that bad, once we got past Main Street and away from the hub. We had a great time. We always get our spots for the first parade in Liberty Sq And Frontierland so when the parade ends, we can go do our thing until the fireworks. Now last year we went to a party that was not sold out and it was amazing! Again, the hub and Main Street were crowded but the rest of the park was wonderful. After the first parade, I felt like I had the whole park to myself. My sister was pregnant at the time so they left early and I stayed until closing and had a great time. No lines for any of my favorite rides... I walked on over and over. 7DMT was only a 30 minute wait, which was nice. There is a big difference when you go to a sold out party and a not sold out party, but I think because in 2013 it was our first time going, we were blown away by everything going on and didn't really notice the big crowds.

Did the Christmas party last year. Way too crowded for us to justify the price. I guess I'm glad we did it to experience it once, but probably wouldn't do it again.

We did a sold out Christmas party last year December 2014 on a Tuesday the week before Christmas week. It was far too crowded for my taste, and if I'm the major planner and decision maker I don't think I would do it again. // Do note that we were there mostly to do rides, but wanted to do three other events too -- Anna and Elsa (double dip crowds for that -- day guests and party people). We also wanted to see fireworks and a parade, so were planning on the second one. // The people who seem to really enjoy the parties most are those that are into the characters, as there are lots of those who you don't see regularly, so if that's your thing, you might really enjoy the party for that.

Anna and Elsa -- waiting by the castle for that was like being packed in like sardines. Crazy -- and then a 40 minute line at Casey's afterwards to grab a hot dog. We were very fortunate to have one person in our party grab an outside table, so we had a place to sit.

Before Anna and Else, we thought we'd check to see if we could get 7DMT in, but posted wait time, probably exaggerated was 1 hour and 15 minutes, which wouldn't have been good for seeing the show, so we skipped that. My mom and I scoped out a place for Anna and Elsa, and my son and my nephew went over to Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain and found those lines quite manageable.

OK we thought -- now people will get getting ready for the first parade, so this would be a great time for lines, right? We headed over to 7DMT again -- still posted times of an hour and 15 minutes -- too long for us. So we did stuff with shorter waits, Mickey's Philharmagic, Small World, and Peter Pan (The first two were practically walk on, but I wouldn't be surprised if our wait for Peter Pan was almost 25 minutes.) Timing now is such that we should really scope out a spot fairly soon for the second parade and fireworks, which we did want to see, so we headed over to Frontier Land, as crowds are typically more manageable for parades there than Main Street. We did Haunted Mansion and Pirates with lines of maybe 20 minutes -- not all that bad. // We got a spot for the parade 10 minutes before it started. And it was awfully packed crowd wise for that. We were in a walkway area that they had closed off for people till 15 minutes before. And we saw parade and fireworks just fine. I'm not really a parade or fireworks person, but most people rave about these at the parties.

So now it's 11 p.m. and we say, we want to try the new ride 7DMT so head over for a third time. We are a little disappointed though as we doubt we'll be able to get both 7DMT and Space Mountain in (the two remaining things on our hope to do list). Line is now posted as 45 minutes and we go for it. It only take 35 minutes though, so after that we jog over to Space Mountain and are able to get two rides in before midnight. A 10 minute wait for the first ride and walk on for the second, and we board at 11:58 p.m. for that second ride.

We like to do some main street USA hanging around and shopping too so start that at 12:15 a.m. Stores have plenty of people (so it feels busy, but not the overwhelming crowdedness before midnight that there was everywhere). We look around and shop till about 1:30 a.m. By then (we are staying offsite), it's actually pretty easy to navigate the parking lots, and there are still plenty of people but no big traffic jams and waits, and we are back to our offsite condo by 2 a.m. // It's a short night for us as we do rope drop the next day for our one day at Universal with a park to park pass.

I think next time I do the MK, I'd rather do rope drop than party. Actually though my next time at the MK which won't be till March of 2017, I'm going to do the Keys to the Kingdom tour and then hit attractions after that. Hopefully I'll be able to get a few fast passes as line predictions without those late afternoon and evening during spring break look insane. And one one hour line is all I'm up for. After that for a favorite, I want line of 30 minutes or less. If they are longer than that, I'd just prefer to skip things entirely.

All in all we had a good time. My favorite parts were relaxing and eating at Casey's after the insane crowds for Anna and Elsa, doing Mickey's Philharmagic and Small World with short lines, and shopping on Mainstreet USA after the majority of the crowds had left. The special Christmas stuff, because of the crazy crowds, just didn't cut it for me. And although we did stop three times for the freebie hot chocolate and cookies as my nephew in particular liked doing this, I wasn't impressed and could have skipped that.

Anyway this is one person's detailed perspective (mine) of a MVMCP sold out party day. Oh and I've been do the MK on crowd calendar 9 and 10 days before, so FYI, please note that the crowds are not anywhere near those levels. The party was kind of like a 7 day for me, but a 7 day without those first two hours after rope drop, which are heavenly and you don't get with a late afternoon event.

I'm curious..........what date are you looking at? As of right now...........no Christmas Party is sold out............so its a crapshoot. I would think the last week's parties have the best chance to sell out (Dec 13, 15,17,18). Do you plan on purchasing tickets at the door?

We are going during what might be a busy time so we are doing things a little differently to help deal with the crowds. We will eat an early dinner offsite before the party for one thing. It was very difficult to get something to eat during the last party we attended and we don't want to deal with that again. We do intend to watch the parade and have a favorite area that normally works well. We try to stay away from Main Street because it's always a mess so seeing the fireworks is the biggest problem that we're still trying to work out. Hopefully the new bypass will help with some of that crowding when people leave at least.

This is a great idea................eating early or before you arrive is good planning. The second parade.......(there are usually 2) is better too. Its good to prepare, but if you buy tickets in advance you really won't know at that time. Also if possible stay away from last week of parties...........Yeah I know that's dependent on when you visit...........but if you're going that last week the possibility of a SOLD OUT party is more likely.

I'm going to be there December 5 to 11, I haven't decided yet if I want to go. Probably want to go on Tuesday, December 8. Want to see what the weather looks like. If it's sold out before Monday, probably don't want to go anyway.

Not gonna lie--it was miserable. Never again.
Parade was impossible to see. I could not understand why they let so many people in for the event. You couldn't move.

We left feeling really agitated and ticked off. It was not fun. And we are FUN people!

We went to the first Christmas party last year and it was sold out. I didn't think the crowds were crazy. We did some attractions with little wait, we spent a good chunk of time waiting in line for popular characters (but that was to be expected). We walked up to the train station area just 15 or so minutes before the second parade and got a curb spot.

No I am planning to purchase them this week. I was planning to buy tickets for the 15th.

Last year, I went to a sold out Halloween party and I was not a huge fan. But I was sick and I think that played a huge role. My DD loved the dance party and trick or treating! The other issue last year is that the hub was under construction so I found that really annoying.

the things I really care about are seeing the parade and light show on the castle. I don't think there are any M&Gs that would be a priority for us... (Maybe Flynn and Rapunzel?) so I am not too worried about that. I think my DD will likely want to goto the dance party.

Rides are also not much of a priority.

Given that the parade is a big priority, did you enjoy it and were you able to get a good spot?

JMHO, but if you don't think your father would enjoy the crowds of a sold out party, I wouldn't buy tickets in advance. Buy them when you get there. If the party's sold out, problem averted.

We're going on Dec 6th :) There's been some good advice given in this thread...........no matter what happens I hope you have low crowds and a wonderful time. :santa:

We went to the last party last year. Yes, it was sold out - and to be honest, we didn't really notice it. We saw the second parade and were able to secure a spot. We got our pictures with the 7 Dwarfs, Anna & Elsa, etc.

One word - DONT.

We were there last year the first week of December (party not sold out) and it was MISERABLE. Im glad we did it years ago before they starting selling so many tickets. Enjoyed the parties in the past. Now - not so much.

We are going on November 10th, and I'm hoping for relatively low crowds since it's so early and on a Tuesday.
