We bought DVC in 96 and had enough points to take 3 or 4 vacations a year with it. We were able to travel to places that we would have never thought of. Our daughter grew up going to WDW every Christmas and either HH or a cruise every summer. I choke up just thinking of those times with my little girl. Along with that DVC took us to Hawaii, Europe, NYC, horse back riding and more.

We always thought we would own DVC forever but we sold our 3 DVC contracts because we are building a vacation home in Florida and are entering a new stage in our lives.

For those thinking about buying DVC, just do it, it was the best vacation decision we could have ever made. We could not have been happier with our experiences and now our memories. We had so many great times with family and friends that we would not have had had we not made the decision to become DVC members.

Although we are no longer members, I’m sure we’ll make it a point to visit the DVC resorts from time to time. Only now when we go to Florida to be welcomed home, we’ll also have to pay the mortgage.

Thanks for the report ... glad you have good memories of DVC.

Enjoy your new "home away from home".

Enjoy your new Florida home! Best wishes.

Congrats and best wishes for you. :Pinkbounc

We just bought into DVC. I hope to have the same memories as you, its so nice to hears stories like yours. Enjoy your new home :)

Best Wishes in your new home. I am a newbie to DVC and only just started to make some nice memories. We took my 80 year old Mom to celebrate her birthday this year, and it is a memory I will always cherish. This was her first trip to WDW and she was so impressed with our accommodations at Wilderness Lodge and our choice of restaurants (LeCellier, Citricos, Portabella's, Fultons). Every time we go to WDW, I try to convince my DH to move to Florida. I also spent many happy years vacationing with my family back in the 1960's. I still give a toast to my dear departed Dad and my "favorite" uncle whenever we first arrive.

Good Luck!!

thanks for taking the time to make that wonderful post!

Thanks for your report. Enjoy your new home also. We see ourselves doing the same thing in about 5 years. We were all smart enought to buy DVC and watch it go up in value. People who own other timeshares don't believe us when we tell them we will sell for a profit. Hey, do we pay capital gains on that?   :cool1: :rotfl: We have been going since the kids were two and three. Imagine near college age in five years!! The memories are the best. So glad you had them too.

What a wonderful post! So sorry you had to sell your DVC, but it sounds as if had served you well. Enjoy your new home in FLA.

Ahhh, but think of those great Florida Resident discounts!!!

Thanks for taking the time to post and good luck with this new phase of your lives. :goodvibes

Sounds like you got your moneys worth and THEN some! You are living a dream that everyone else on this board probably has. After all, DVCers are all mostly Floridian wannabe's right? So where is your new home and will you try to get jobs at disney? :earsgirl:

I’m afraid that the commute would be a little tough, especially in Florida traffic. We are building in Naples, I’m not sure but I think that would be at least a four hour drive to WDW. We love the ocean and miss it very much living out here in Indiana. We're looking forward to spending some time on the beach again.

I’m a real estate broker in Indiana and Florida, so if Disney ever wanted to start a DVC resort in Southwest Florida, I’ll be up to the task!

Your story reminds me of my favorite "tivo'd" show: A fans guide to Disney world. My favorite person was the man who said "We mark time through our Disney vacations". That's definately true for us. We have a photo album specifically from each trip and its fun to see how the kids are growing up on Disney.

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Good Luck. Did you ever add what DVC cost you and the dues, then subtract that from what you sold DVC for, giving you an out of pocket actual cost of all those trips? It might be interesting.

I never did but I agree it would be very interesting. I'm going to assume that the total costs would outweigh our net after sold. We paid cash for about half of our points so there was no interest (only lost opportunity costs that would be impossible to calculate) and the ones we did finance we paid off early so I really don’t know what the total finance cost would have been.

The total dues was costing us about $3000 a year then there was the commission of the sale of the contracts. All in all I’m sure we did not make any money even though we did sell them for more than we paid.

I do feel very confident that whatever our actual costs of ownership was, it would have cost us far more had we taken all these vacations without DVC.

Thanks for sharing your happy memories. It is lovely to know that you also used your DVC to travel other places in the world. We are from UK and we have used our points for Disneyland Paris which for us was very good value as it did not cost us the air fare!! and kept us going between our annual trips to WDW.

Hope all your dreams come true in Florida.

Thank you SO much for your post. We've questioned our decision a few times since money is a bit tight....but your post just confirmed what I already knew....the times we spend with our kids right now is the most important time we can have....and DVC is making memories for us that will last a lifetime plus!
