My DS will be just 7 months when we bring him to the World. My little piggy is like 20lbs:eek: I am scared bringing a hot baby to disney in a hot sling. Solarveil ring sling worth it and would it make a big difference in the temp?? Should I go organic cotton??

We spend 2 weeks in Disney/Orlando a few weeks ago and we lived in the solarveil sling. Not only was it cooler, but it dries quicker (we used it in the pool) and it has the spf in it as well. I bought the solarveil off the solarveil website and purchased an extra yard that I hemmed into a cover sheet. I used this when ds2 and ds4 took naps in the stroller. Love, love, love my solarveil sling!!

I have a solarveil in tan, and I've found it to be really great in a lot of ways. It still is a bit warm for carrying when it's really hot, but that isn't so much the sling itself as the baby's body heat; they are toasty little beings.

What I really like using it for is nursing, because baby can see out, but passerby cannot see in. DS doesn't much like having her head covered when she nurses, but she'll tolerate the solarveil. It's also a great sunshade for carseats and strollers, again because it is semi-sheer from the baby's POV.

I LOVE my solarveil ring sling!!!I use it for quick trips with my 20 month (29 pound) dd and for the pool. I would definitley recommed using one for WDW.
I bought mine from http://www.sleepingbaby.net/shop/proddetail.php?prod=solarveil ..I got the baby blue ( didn't have pink in stock :( when i ordered) it is a really nice shade of blue.
Sachi also has really nice solarweave Mei Tei's....
i also have a solaveil pouch that a really nice WAHM made me put its just not working for us...

Ok. I have plenty of experience with ring slings and pouches but not mei teis. Would that be hotter than a ring sling since baby is pressed against you? I am looking for the coolest option. I will get the solarveil now but I don't know which to get.

Umm i think any kind of carrier is going to be a bit hot, i think it is just what is more comfortable for you to use.
I leave for WDW next week and i am bringing my Solarveil Ring sling for pool and quick trips, like standing in lines... and my solarweave Mei Tei, for comfy back carries....
Either one would be good...last year when my dd was 9 months i used the Mei Tei for the parks and the pool...

I have a solarveil sling that I bought last year when my DS was 4 months old for a camping trip. Other than the fabric being a bit on the scratchy side, I loved it. It was much cooler than other slings or wraps and you can take it right in the pool or shower. I used the tail from it to cover his head when we were in the bright sun. I used it to bathe him in the shower lots of times even after the trip.

I bought mine from http://www.kiddiecradles.com/

Mine is black.

Thanks. I think I am just going to get both. Why make hard decisions. How easy is it to get baby in and put of the mei tei?

I used my solarveil pouch for trips to the pool last year at WDW. It worked well, but the fabric stretches a bit more than others, so I didn't like it for longer trips. A RS may be better b/c it's adjustable.
For parks, I perfered my mai tai since it's a two shouldered carrier, and is more comfy for longer walks.
It is hot, but when it's that hot it doesn't seem to matter if you're a little hotter if baby is happy.

I got mine from sleepingbaby.net in the celery green! I love the color and the sling works great too-LOL!

I agree. Jan does wonderful work, and will even do custom RSs. She made a couple of slings from a wrap that I had, and they turned out great.

Hi! Look at my avatar for a 1 year old in a mesh-bodied mei tai, at Disneyland. :) It wasn't solarveil, but it kept things a whole lot cooler than they might have been!

You'll want to practice practice practice with the mei tai. It's a great way to carry a kiddo, but it can be awkward at first, and you don't want to fumble in public anymore than you absolutely have to.

I don't know what kind of straps the solarveil mei tai will have, but if you have any option, and if your baby is on the heavier side, get something with padding on the shoulder straps. By the time of that avatar, if I wore DS on my back with that mei tai, I'd get 'hickeys' on the fronts of my shoulder/armpit area, from the sheer weight of him and the pulling it caused on the unpadded straps.

If you get it from sleepingbaby, I don't know, but I'm almost sure, that she will give you instructions. if not, the babywearer, or mamatoto dot org, or many other places will give you great ideas on how to tie it and wear it.

I personally think that wearing babies in the heat is a GOOD thing. You know exactly how warm the baby is getting, or even if they are getting abnormally cool (my brother was prone to heat problems when he was little, and he would go pale, get cool, and stop sweating right before the problem REALLY started), and you KNOW to get out of the heat or take a water/milk break. If they are down below you in the stroller, you don't KNOW what's going on unless you take a moment to check. I think wearing is safer, personally. :)

AND if you wear baby/toddler on you and they have a sippy cup of cold water, they are very prone to spilling it on you, and that's awfully refreshing! :rotfl:

Oh, duh at myself, I meant to put more in there after the straps talk. If the straps on the mei tai you'll get are lightly or un-padded, since the body will be the solarveil (that's mesh-y, yes?) and easily smooshed, you'll probably be able to do what I did. When I wore the mei tai to DL, or to zoos or whatever, when DS wanted out of it, instead of taking the whole thing off of me, I would just untie the shoulders, then roll/fold it down so it was sort of a line of lump around my waist. Not fashionable, not even attractive. :) But it meant less tying overall, and that was a good thing for me.

Then when he was ready to get back up, I'd hold him on my front, unroll/fold it, bring it up over his body, and do my cross-in-back-pull-to-front blah blah tying thing. Ready to go.

Practice.

I believe the Sachi solarveil and solarweave Mei Tei's have lightly padded straps....
There are a few brand new or gently used ones for sale on thebabywearer.com right now....
